THE CANNABIS THREAD 101!!

So this happened today:

This is the new circuits that I have been waiting to have installed.

It comes off of my consumer unit (main circuit board) in the house to the meter that you can see which is for me to be able to monitor how much electricity that I am using before going to a 2 way board with a main isolator. Each circuit is 32 amps one gives me 4 sockets and the other 8 sockets. Between them I can balance the loads. I feel a lot more comfortable to press forward now without having to worry about causing a fire or returning home to see the fire brigade and police outside my house.

Over the next week I am going to be extremely busy as I am 3 weeks behind schedule as of Monday gone. I will take photos to share with you and demonstrate methods with explanations for what I am doing and why. Most of what I will be doing I have done before so I am confident of the results and I think some of you will be shocked and amazed.

Some common sense rules of thumb.

  • Keep electrical cables, sockets, extension leads and appliances off of the floor when and where possible, especially if you are working woth liquids in an NFT, ebb& flow, aeroponic or r/DWC scenario
  • Tie your cables up so you do not trip over them
  • Where and when possible cover containers with liquids in them, so buckets or reservoirs.

Alright brotha!!

I put this thread up so when the green-rush hits your state, city or town, brotha's would have sum information they could use to get a grow going and make products with cannabis!!

Has anyone here tried the scrog net technique? If so, did it work best with topping, low stress training (LST) ir a combination of techniques?

Has anyone here tried the scrog net technique? If so, did it work best with topping, low stress training (LST) ir a combination of techniques?

I tried it on my first grow.. Didnt know what I was really doing, but will do sum research during my next grow and approach it with a different state of mind. From what ive read, it really works good.. Good luck bruh

Has anyone here tried the scrog net technique? If so, did it work best with topping, low stress training (LST) ir a combination of techniques?

This is why I asked for the thread to be moved. I plan to be quite busy over the next 4 weeks getting back on track and want to photograph what I am going to be doing for you guys.

SCROG is where you use netting and pull the branches up and through. I have done something similar because when I have vegged the plants for to long they have grown to tall.

Because my electrical installation was 3 weeks late I have been holding my plants in the veg phase for 4 weeks to long and they are now 5 feet. Hopefully by Monday I will have my first flowering room set up and 8 plants in there either scrogging or using yoyos to support them. I will be literally snapping/bending then 90 degrees, about 18 inches from the base which when it repairs it will resemble a knuckle Everything on the main stem below that knuckle will be removed with a scalpel or razor blade. I will then remove everything growing vertically downwards with a razor and train the remaining to grow vertically upwards with either scrog netting or yoyos.

Because my plants have been competing for the light the smaller ones have grown only leaves and not leaf, branch, leaf, branch. What I plan to do to overcome this is to remove the meristem (the main vertical trunk), I will take a cutting from the tip of each plant, and leave the lower 4-6 nodes (branches) and train them to grow vertically, this maybe known as Nepalese pruning, I need to check that.

The plants that I have started from seed need to be sexed as these are going outside for a guerrilla grow. I do not want any males to pollenate the females and may not be able to check on them regularly. I will be taking a minimum of 2-3 cuttings from each plant. 2 will be used to determine the sex (in case 1 dies) and the other will be kept so if the plant turns out to be be something special I still have the genetics available to me.

I found these mad cheap and did a combination depending on the strain.

They are real good if you want to be able to scrog and still move plants around easily

..

@Thrill3Seeker basically a scrog is a trellis but instead of positioning it vertically it is placed horizontally. It can be netting or a constructed item like what MT Hermit has shown above. What MT Hermit has shown is good because if you are working with plant pots you would have one in each pot and could then lift and move or rotate each pot independently. You could make your own system out of some garden canes using some twine or string to bind the canes in to the positions you need. Another reason for using scrogging is to give the plants support as the buds/flowers develop. As they get heavier the branches will begin to droop downwards, not to bad if you are working with soil and pots but if you are working with hydro then it could result in the buds hanging down into water and being permanently wet then getting mould of fungus. By keeping the branches and buds upright it entails that they receive light and continue to grow to their full potential.

If you use an upright can to support the plant as it grows taller use a twine, string, garlic ties or similar to tie the plant to the cane but allow some slack otherwise it will cut into the plant as the plant grows thicker reducing the flow of the plants sap throughout the plant.

She's coming along..had to use some teflon tape to hold some branches down.she outgrew the light and the cab space.too much stretch and too much space between nodes.:crying:

top cola leaves looking wilted compared to the rest.im guessing because she wasnt getting as much light? I'm watering every other day which is when the top couple inches of soil is dry.

Your girl looks nice.. Are you growing soil or hydro??

Your girl looks nice.. Are you growing soil or hydro??

Thanks man.

Soil.honestly i just used what I found at my old job.theres miracle grow cactus soil at the bottom and miracle grow regular at the middle and top.gonna do some research for better soil and pick up a different light for the next one.the space i got is so limited I gotta plan everything around it.

I use Canna Terra Professional, not for any particular reason other than I use the Canna Aqua range of nutrients in my hydro system. If I remember correctly it comes premix with Perlite (which is a good product). If I am starting from seed (any plant) and growing in soil I generally use John Innes' range of soils. They are pre-dosed with sufficient nutrients for 4-6 weeks.

If it does not already have Perlite I will add it (up to 30%), it is good for drainage and aeration. I usually add some gravel or stones to the bottom of the pot or trough so the the roots do not sit and then rot because they are in water. I need to make up some new pots and troughs to get some Garlic on the go that I germinated a week or so ago, but they are not my priority. When I do it I will try to take some step by step photos for you to see how I do it.

Apart from the Perlite or/and Vermiculite I add Mycorrhizae.

Generally you add it to the area that you have prepared for the plant to be put in as it is only effective when it is contact with the roots. For Cannabis I use Plant Success's "Great White"

which I usually brew in a tea with worm castings (hummus) and molasses. I put some water a bucket, a mug full of worm castings and stir well. I the boil a mug of water and add the molasses to that, stir well to make sure it has dissolved and then add to the bucket and stir. I then add the Mycorrhizae as directed. I connect and air pump with an air stone and put it in the bucket, cover with a lid and let it do its thing for 24 hours. When you add Mycorrhizae it is referred to as inoculating. I also use Xtreme Gardening Mykos granules, but this I add directly to the root zone when I a "potting up".

When I prepared my raised flower bed I used farm yard manure from the farm up the road, Canna Terra professional Soil, Perlite and mixed in a 2.5KG tub of Dragonfli Mycorrhizae

Some people start to prepare their soil 3-4 months (or more) before using it. This is because they are trying to establish a healthy living colony of micro organism in an anaerobic soil. Try to think of the soil as a living thing rather than inert.

What pic host is this?

@baboss2212 looking good. What kind of day time (lights on) temperatures and humidity and what are they night time (lights off)?
Right now they in 24 light. I got a thermometer and shit but haven't even been looking to be honest. I work mornings so haven't been on it. But they pass the eye test so far.

@baboss2212

They look good. I would suggest dropping the light pattern to 18/6, give them some rest. I have not used LEDs so I do not know how to advise you on the height, I know with HIDs the rule of thumb is about 12+inches, if you can put your hand on the tops of your plants and it is comfortable then it is fine.

Whilst vegging you want optimum temperature which is 24.5C and up to 80% humidity (although I have no problems vegging at 28C). If you can keep your dark temperatures within a couple of degrees of your light on temperatures you will get short squat bushy plants, this is what we are ideally looking for because the plant uses less energy sending what it needs to to the tips of the plant. To avoid stretch I run my blue lights, in my case metal halides for the first 2 weeks of 12/12. I heard (I forget why) that it is important to maintain uniform humidity rather than let it fluctuate throughout the week, it can vary day/night/day/night but each day must be similar to the last day and so forth with the nights. Something to do with the stomata opening and closing to regulate transpiration I think. To maintain dark temperatures I set a minimum temperature on my fan controller which has the ability to activate my small 800 watt oil radiator. May daytime is 28C and my nighttime is 27C. Because I have had to wait for the electrician to fit the new circuits it has meant that the plants have competed for the light and have stretched upwards. I have a few tricks to combat this, I will photograph and explain during the coming week.

If you do not have an extraction fan controller you can use one of these to maintain your minimum temperature, ideally during veg 24.5/22.5C and during flowering 27.5/25.5C

New sub forum
"Indoor/Outdoor Gardening Forum"

Evening Gents,

I have requested and got the approval for a new sub forum called "Indoor/Outdoor Gardening Forum" which will be in the DIY & Education forum.

There are a few reasons for requesting this but these here are a few of the main reasons,
  • all the previous gardening, growing threads can be moved there,
  • rather than one thread covering very broad topics we can have thread specific topics and discussions,
  • being "members only" offers a little more protection for the more "sensitive" topics regarding "exotics",
  • I usually am quite happy to share the knowledge that I have and post photo, detailed descriptions and advice
  • having looked at some of the posts in the past on the main board general gardening, flowers, fruit and vegetables have been discussed,
  • I noticed a few regular posters in the Cannabis 101 thread, some of the guys were novices but very keen to absorb information and others were experienced willing to share and help the other guys,
  • It might be a bit of a closed group to start with but with promotion I think others with an interest will find their way to it,
  • I would like to do a couple of threads to be stickied, one outlining some common sense issues and an introduction as to what the forum is about,
  • I think the name "Indoor/Outdoor Gardening Forum" is suitable and covers everything from the window sill grower to the raised beds vegetable patches to allotments to indoor hydrponics,
  • possibly start a thread on the main board with links to any gardening, growing related threads as we encounter them so it will be easier to ask TEN or HNIC to move them with the consent of the OP.
Last year during the first lockdown I started to grow fruit and vegetables in case there was a food shortage. I grew potatoes, tomatoes (5 varieties), lettuce, spring onions, rocket, beetroots, okra, broccoli, lambs lettuce, spinach, carrots, chilis, peppers, basil, honey dew melons, rhubarb, figs, avocado trees and lemon trees.

I currently have spinach, lambs lettuce, garlic, leeks rhubarb and the fig tree underway and am planning on doing everything that I did last year and more because the difference between the home grown and that which you buy in the supermarkets is non comparable.

If anybody would like to comment whether positive or negative, please step up, all suggestions are welcome.

Sounds good to me.

In a couple weeks, peppers, squash, cucumbers, and tomatoes are going in the ground. I’ve got a container garden on my deck for more tomatoes and herbs.

I have a lot of photos that I took of the fruits, vegetables and herbs that I did last year as well as the raised bed that I made and what went in it. I am hoing to be able to post these for everyones benfit. I am currently working on the "exotics" and am expanding to 2 flower rooms and a veg room, (photos to follow), that is my priority but I am hoping to get my seed started before the end of March becasue they will not take up much space for the first 4 weeks so they can probably fit in the veg room and be ahead when the weather begins to improve through April and the begining of May. I had a potatoe kit with 3 types of spuds delivered during the week. I don't want tobe doing to much indoors and outdoors to carry pests into the "exotics" I have had spider mites before at this location and do not need that set back.

There is a pruning technique for tomatos whereby they grew tomatoes and not leaves, I will try and find a link this evening when i have finished my chores. Do not plant your carrots to close together they will not develop, I had that problem last year.

This is why I suggested the new forum, we have so much to offer each other that it just overwhelms a thread and it goes off track.

yes. i've used the entire lineup. bud candy is used at the end of flowering. you can get the same results with molasses, but i wont preach to you. anyways, yeah, its carbs for the plant. advanced nutrients are a reputable brand. they have about 10-15 products if thats your thing.

Getting back on track...

Has anyone tried the advanced nutrients line of products?

Specifically the “Bud Candy” supplement.

yes. i've used the entire lineup. bud candy is used at the end of flowering. you can get the same results with molasses, but i wont preach to you. anyways, yeah, its carbs for the plant. advanced nutrients are a reputable brand. they have about 10-15 products if thats your thing.

Thanks for the info.
Man...to me, less is more.
No way I can keep up with all those products.

I want a system that can produce good results with solid base nutrients, some CalMag, A flush, and maybe one or two finishing products.

Might as well ask this question here.back in the days I hustled trees for a lil bit for this dread.he had two types.one was regular brick weed and the other was like trees in some black or brown oily liquid.he said only the old heads in the neighborhood would ask for that.i don't think I ever asked him,and it was almost 30 years ago.anyone know what that oily shit could have been?
