I use a lot of terms interchangeably and out of their correct content. I've always looked the the GOP in multiple parts. There is the actual party that governs and there is the electoral base, voters. I don't know any real conservatives, I know a lot of people who vote republican and do so out of racist reasoning. That is the base of the party but not the actual governing party. It is the voting bloc.
There is the actual party which are elected officials, operatives, think tank members. In the past I've assumed that many of them were actual right wing conservatives who used race to get poor whites to vote against the financial interest. Right wingers and conservatives can be two different things. Right wingers believe in a natural order of things, those on top are there because it's the natural order.
I've come to believe that the actual republican party has been taken over by grifters, just looking to make a buck. Not people who think that they're the natural order of things but people who are just con men. Think George Bush vs. Trump, neither one I like. The goal now is too make money , not maintain old money.
The last 4 years were the Fox News administration. Shit wasn't ran by people who knew what they were doing, it was run by the right-wing media ecosphere which catered to the base.
