That's great. Yeah - those Q&As are pretty good. Went to a few of them after advance screenings, and at the film fest' back in the day (VIFF - just over 10 years ago). The film fest was a great experience as they showed a number of the features at this older 7 - 8 screen venue downtown. Plus, they allowed people to bring food/drink from home given the long days. So if you planned your day right you could see a number of movies back-2-back.

Not one but TWO British leads, a Greek Jew director, written and produced by white men and lesbians. Has FBADOSTUV started with yet another Scorched Earth disinformation campaign to derail the success for and just outright SHIT on "Queen & Slim" the way they tried (and miserably failed) to with "Harriet"? Asking for a friend...

They already started the campaign

And how is that boycott working out for them? :puzzled:
Retweets were aready claiming the movie to be a flop before sundown on the holiday first Thursday of release. Most free thinking Black Americans with basic common sense have already gotten wise to the game. We treat all "absolute fact declarations" containing their #FBADOSGTFOH hashtag with the same laughable credibility as a late night tweet from Trump.

Universal/Makeready/Bron’s Queen & Slim which was made for $17M by Makeready and Bron before P&A, and reps a distribution deal for Uni, is seeing $15.2M by Sunday. Pic posted excellent exits with 5 stars on PostTrak and A- CinemaScore, but the movie’s ticket sales in regards to that are OK. Right now females at 58% are showing up, 63% under 35 and 61% between 18-35 years old. African Americans still lead sales at 59%, Caucasians at 23%, 9% Asian/Other, & 9% Hispanic. Queen & Slim played best on the East coast along with the South. Five of the top ten runs came out of the Atlanta market which is impressive I’m told.

Makeready’s Queen and Slim continued its solid opening with a $2.376 million (+36%, yesterday’s biggest jump) Thanksgiving gross. The (correctly) acclaimed drama, about a young black couple who end up on the run after a first date ends with a fatal altercation with a police officer, is still aiming for an $11 million Fri-Sun/$15 million Wed-Sun debut. That would be quite fine for the Universal release, as A) it’s entirely on brand for their “small movies with big impacts that serve underrepresented demographics” sub-genre, and B) it’s quite good so I’m hoping it’ll leg out. The Melina Matsoukas-directed and Lena Waithe-penned flick stars Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith and cost around $17 million. It’s not exactly escapism, but if Thelma and Louise can become a generational classic…

How was the film?

thanks for reminding me fam

We really enjoyed it. wife and I were invited to a screening on Monday..showed up there and the line up stretched around the perimeter of the theater. Bumped into a lot of friends and colleagues.. really big turnout and positive vibes, crowd was about 80% black..a lot of black, asian, latin toronto creatives were in attendance.

film was beautifully shot and acted, soundtrack was dope as shit...Jodi Turner and daniel kaluuya did their thing....you were really drawn into them, their dynamic and their journey because it feels like a scenario that could happen to any one of us.
there were a few scenes that got some loud applause...when the cop got shot in the beginning (not a spoiler since scene is in the trailer) the theatre ERUPTED with cheers and applause!! lol..a couple CACs looked a lil nervous...

some people may have an issue with the pacing..because after all this is a movie about a brotha and sista driving through multiple states together trying to avoid being seen...so ..while there are a lot of scenes and other interesting characters and situations....theres a lot of scenes in the film where it's just the two main characters also a long running time but the ending was very well done. Toronto gave it a standing applause

Lena waithe and the director melina came out to standing applause for a post film interview and Q&A and Lena said the energy in the theatre was the craziest shes ever felt during all of the showings she was really touched and they both broke down a whole lot of nuances in the film and provided so many interesting backstories and points that I might expand on a lil later once more people have watched the flick and we engage in discussion

Thanks for the breakdown.

I'll add to my list of films to see.

Just saw it.... can't say I enjoyed it. Too many benevolent police portrayals for it to feel realistic...

The Queen character was very unlikable from the beginning until the end... I could never sympathize with her.

Bokeem Woodbine was the highlight of the film, this is not heroic like Bonnie & Clyde or Thelma and Louise

Movie sucked. Nice camera work, colors were dope, soundtrack is dope. Bokeem woodbine was excellent.

Half naked trannys :smh:, impossible diversions while on the run-straight nonsense. Sex scene with the deep brown bee stings was nice. The ending was every negative Black stereotype. We are our worst enemy, and love fucking symbolism with no power.

Fuck this slandering of the Black Panthers, without context. Oh yeah the kid scene was fucking ridiculous. Supporting Black art is always important, but I left with my lady really upset about the depictions of the movie.

Damn, you got Black women tearing this movie apart and fucking up anyone who disagrees with them on YT

Yeah, she was just being a woman, letting once incident ruin her entire day and taking it out on every one. If anything, that was very real. She was bold but also annoying.

Yeah, he was cool. Funny too.
Damn, you got Black women tearing this movie apart and fucking up anyone who disagrees with them on YT
for what? What could they possibly be mad at? Did they think that the females performance hit too close to home?

Yo.. Queen &Slim is off the chain. Damn good flick. Shit gonna make you think, cry & scream the same time. Oh yeah, the shit is mad funny in parts. Both actors played their role and really had you rooting for them. Fuk all the haters, go ahead and peep it and then come back and holla.

All that bullshit about british actors playing american roles is some straight up self hating bullshit. Acting is fucking acting and these t o actors did their thing.
