Universal/Makeready/Bron’s Queen & Slim is filing a $11.7M 3-day and $15.8M 5-day after a $4.59M Saturday. Fox/New Regency’s Widows was always a comparison here and that movie opened to $12.3M at 2,803 a year ago. It should be noted that Q&S did a potent amount of business on fewer screens, a count of 1,690 and a $9,3K 5-day screen average. Widows ended its run at $42.4M off a B CinemaScore and the great exits of A- CinemaScore and 5 stars on PostTrak here on Q&S have many believing that this racial injustice drama can get to $50M. The pic, largely financed by Makeready and Bron cost $17M before P&A.

“Universal believes in championing bold filmmakers with a unique voice. With Queen & Slim, Melina Matsoukas and Lena Waithe together deliver an emotionally powerful film, bringing a level of authenticity to their storytelling that you don’t often see. There’s no doubt this film will leave a lasting impression on audiences” said Universal domestic distribution boss Jim Orr.

Fellow new release, Universal and Makeready’s “Queen and Slim,” also exceeded expectations and is shaping up to be a win in favor of original fare. The romantic drama starring Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith opened at No. 5, collecting $11.7 million over the weekend and $15.8 million over the five-day holiday period. Directed by Melina Matsoukas and written by Lena Waithe, “Queen and Slim” carries a roughly $20 million price tag. Over 50% of opening weekend crowds were African America, while 24% were Caucasian, 15% were Hispanic and 3% were Asian. More than 60% of ticket buyers were over the age of 25.

“At the heart of ‘Queen and Slim’ is a moving love story that is timely and groundbreaking,” said Jim Orr, Universal’s president of domestic distribution. “We’re really pleased with how ‘Queen and Slim’ opened and that audiences are responding.”

:eek2::eek2::eek2:

Wow, a $13 mill Thanksgiving weekend take. "Paul Robeson", Leonard Waithe, and your favorite tranny " NON CIS" actor sure showed us!

Danny might actually get to use his real accent and be Ugaandan on camera one day....one day. :giggle:

whoever wrote that, left out some positive traits clearly shown in the movie. But hey, if they pointed out those things, they probably wouldn't get that many likes. Social Media is doing a good job of dividing black people, and guess what...just take the first two traits above and you have those who are falling for it.

how come this person didn't mention how the black woman was portrayed? Soon as the movie started, she had an attitude, and guess who she took it out on? Then she was acting too good to eat at certain places.

Soooo. From what I’ve heard so far Basically this movie is about how worthless a dudes life is to a
Black woman.
Hence “queen” someone worthy
“Slim” a name for just an around the way dude

Idk. Shit seemed suspect being done by a female trying to play a males role from the beginning.
I’ll wait for the low low

Man ya'll some ignorant ass fools up in here. Always want to nick pick shit to death. The only positive things yall fools are screaming on is Bokeem Woodbine role. Yeah he's funny & deep in the movie but he didn't exactly represent the best of Blackman. Whereas Slim, didn't do anything wrong, just was chilling and shit got out of hand. Just enjoy the fucking movie and stop with all that extra militant bullshit.

Think about it: these "woke" ass people will rip this movie for it's "non ADOS" actors & crew, but will gladly give their money to watch a movie made by and starring white people. Muhfuckas acting like if they boycott this movie, there'll be "tangibles" in the mailbox tomorrow.

Still waiting for one of these ADOSploitation flicks to debut at #1 and be a certified "smash" or cult classic. When you import cheaper talent you get what you paid for. Another dud!

Nope. A nuanced love story. Check it out for yourself. I enjoyed it. Ados has an agenda...the leads aren't ados, so they're gonna shit on it regardless.

Chad Boseman was born in S.C., and his movie made a billion. In my world, a billion dollars in less than a month, is a "smash", or does Tariq demand you to think differently?

Queen and Slim isnt seeing a billion. Given your history not shocked youre promoting a film like this.

I knew your Russian bot ass wouldn't answer the question. You never do. Question for you, bot. Show me where I promoted this movie? I'll save to the trouble, bot. You can't.

Selling negative imagery to black kids for a check, what you know bout that? As a non ADOS. Your slow ass thinks this is a movie made by blacks. :smh:

Why did you quote this fool?

Knives Out is critically acclaimed and has been promoted a lot. Hell at my AMC the workers have been wearing Knives Out shirts for weeks.

Knives Out is written, produced, and directed by Rian Johnson - the last movie he directed was a little something called Star Wars: The Last Jedi. It is showing in more than twice as many American theaters as Queen & Slim and more than triple the number of Harriet. It's $40 Million budget was also way more than both movies combined and Knives Out immediately got a worldwide release in China, Canada, Russia and elsewhere.

But yeah - apples vs apples

Thankfully, most unbrainwashed Black Americans have gotten wise to this sad pathetic repeated game of Social Media disinformation and outright lies. What very little credibility they might have gotten the benefit of the doubt for has long since been squandered, and their white puppet master sugar daddies are going to close the money spigot now that they no longer serve any effectively useful purpose for creating division for conquering.

You were bragging bout 15 mill on a Thanksgiving Weekend and calling this a win. The bar is set so low.

Nobody is ever really gonna take these films seriously long term because theyre just cheesy updated Blaxploitation films dashed with LGBTQ propaganda and immigrants in blackface. Even white folks dont want to sit and watch this bullshit.
