Report: Pelicans have 'shown interest' in Sixers J.J. Redick

The New Orleans Pelicans figure to be in the market in the opening hours and days of free agency as the franchise will enter July with upwards of $22 million in cap space and the need for veterans and holes to be filled.
While many have eyed the center position as the biggest area of need, it isn’t the only area the Pelicans need improvement. And while the on-again, off-again chase of Al Horford remains the potential highlight signing of the summer, David Griffin and his staff aren’t putting all their eggs in that basket.
The other likely biggest area of need on the roster is shooting. While the Lakers’ young core brought much depth to the roster, the lack of shooting is apparent. However, New Orleans may be targeting one of the top shooters in the open market in former Philadelphia 76ers wing J.J. Reduce (less commonly known by his first name, Jonathan).
Redick is one of the elite shooters in the league and one of the most feared and respected as well. With the Sixers last season, Redick averaged 18.1 points per game on 39.7 percent three-point shooting while playing a key role in Philly’s playoff run.
His Synergy profile speaks equally high of the Duke product. He was the 85th percentile in hand offs, 80th percentile off screens and 68th percentile in spot ups. He ranked in the 81st percentile on catch and shoot opportunities and even was in the 94th percentile in pick and rolls in limited possessions.
More than his on-court production, Redick would be a much-needed mentor and adult in the room for a young team. While Holiday is a veteran on the roster, he’s outnumbered by young players and rookies. Having a great teammate like Redick on the roster would be a huge bonus in that regard.
However, it’s likely Redick will be eyeing a spot on a contender and, likewise, contenders will eyeing Redick. Like the Sixers did many years ago, the Pelicans’ best bet at landing Redick would be coming in with a massive one-year deal and, with the holes in the roster, it makes little sense for New Orleans.
But as we’ve learned even following the Horford drama this off-season, things can change on a dime.

The league does NOT want Charlotte getting the #1 pick because they know its a shit franchise and that player won't be marketed properly.
