Poverty is most definitely a huge environmental factor when it comes to crime. I have always put morality over poverty. I grew up in the projects surrounded by poverty and crime but with a religious upbringing and a two parent home none in our family turned to crime.

Years later my nephew who grew up middle class is serving a life sentence right now for capital murder. Didn't grow up in poverty but always had an evil streak even as a young teen at 14.

Poverty is a factor but like many problems crime and gang violence have multiple causes or factors.

Edit: Nephew also grew up with single parent. His dad wasn't worth a plug nickel and still isn't till this day.

He was more than likely targeted by law enforcement and an investigation started after being implicated in some other criminal activity. What is not mentioned was his right hand man was also arrested at the same time, and not by ICE. A lot of these dudes in the industry can’t let the street life go and let their loyalty to the streets become their downfall. There is always more to the story, read between the lines.

Yeah they arrested hia cousin Young Nudy for some gang activity. Nudy is also a rapper, and I guess 21 was with him at the time of arrested so he was caught up in it. Then they moved him over to ICE because of his status. I'm surprised it didn't happen before. In a perfect world, his current outlook on life would be taken into consideration, since he seems to be turning over a new leaf, but this isn't a perfect world. So off to ... LONDON he goes. I've heard they're giving him the option of waiting all these months for a trial or just be deported and not be able to come back for a long time. But he'd still have earning potential in a lot of places , and possibly with the right lawyers, still be able to fix that. I think I'd rather do that than sit in detention for 4 months.
