I never said "ALL". I will say majority. I grew up with Mexicans. Many are cool but culturally they are very concerned with assimilating into white culture. They have major color issues and many wont teach their own kids spanish so they can better assimilate into white culture. If you look at any anti-immigration rally in California, you will definitely see other Mexicans there supporting it. Of course you can find some individual Latinos that have been down for Black folks, but as a people they have been silent not only with our struggles,but even their own. We can all rattle off Black Civil Rights activists but ask a Mexican to name one.I bet they name Cesar Chavez who was actually a Labor Rights Activist. The truth is that the Civil Rights that Mexicans enjoy are because of the work that Black folks put in. Not only have they not returned the favor but they often have shitted on us. Did you know that one of the largest mexican Prison gangs cliqued up with the Aryan Brotherhood?
Again... you are basing it on what you see.. I didnt grow up with Mexicans but for 7 years I lived in a Spanish neighborhood in Antioch full of immigrants. They give two shits about the white man. I also represented a lot of immigrants. The ones that I Know cared about their family. Went to their Spanish church. Hung in their Latin clubs and mostly keep to themselves.
Yes I agree that a large majority of Hispanics are republican. That is a fact. A lot were raised Catholic and their religious values line more with republicans.
And I’ll agree... their probably isn’t a large number of Hispanic that know a lot about Black civil rights but on the real I don’t know jack about their civil rights.
But again... to lump a majority of a Race. To say that the majority shit on us.. based on your limited experience to the Mexicans that you are around is basically the exact same thing that white people do to us. And like I said earlier... we as a people need to get over this focus on us thing. Yes we have to be concerned about issues. Yes we need to make changes... to how we are viewed.
But why can’t we do both. Why can’t we be focused on our issues and also be concerned about what’s going on to a fellow child of god?
As a people we are the most forgiving and compassionate. We almost always fight for the underdog. We fought for all the underdogs in this country. But the support is hardly ever reciprocated. instead of just continuing to keep doing the same things with less than desirable results,I have no problem with trying different approaches. Sitting this out will highlight the importance of our support and maybe other people will start actually trying to earn our support rather than just getting it no matter how they view/treat/not support us. I don't see mexicans rallying for our issues or concerned with our families being split by the justice system. I'd bet that the immigrant child numbers are way lower than the children of people in the Correctional system.

The black middle class has almost single-handedly been eviscerated by illegal immigration and yet we are still trying to lead the fight for people who will claim "white" within a generation. Other than the obvious trolls, I don't think anyone on this board is pro Trump; we just need to focus on us before we are concerned with other people. We should be outraged at injustice no matter who the victim is. It is the human thing to do. Nothing wrong with having empathy for others it is a great spiritual quality. However remember the saying "Charity starts at home".
With that said we can be empathetic but we must most definitely be strategic as black people. We have to start saying "What's in it for the black people"?
I don't mind being an ally to others but there must be reciprocity. We have every right as a people in this country to demand reciprocity from others. We want to always help clean other people's houses but our house stays in a state of disarray. Others come here and then in a couple of generations they are thriving, while we are still asking for 40 acres and a mule. We still not getting our cut, living in a crime culture, being oppressed under a police state, economic apartheid, and poor health outcomes from poisoning and lack of health care while our community decays. Like I said nothing wrong with being a humane towards others but we need to unify among ourselves first.
I am with alliance building but it must be done intelligently. I think all legacy champion civil rights groups from all across cultures need to really get together and have a real coalition against the forces of fascism, but until that happens we have to understand we have no true friends. Nobody that is black is wrong for feeling like we have no friends because the proof is out there. When I see other legacy groups from other ethnic communities come out in support of our struggles then I will be willing to be a coalition person. Until then my focus is on "What's in it for us"?

We have black immigrants from Haiti and Africa and we know what Trump thinks of Africa. He's not coming for just brown folks, he wants black folks too. Mexicans are just the one's he's been ginning up all hate for, so he thought the public would be more supportive of seeing "animals" in cages. If you're going to be hard hearted, at least don't be short sighted as well.

When rights are eroded, they aren't just eroded for Mexicans or Native Americans or Muslims or Blacks. When rights get turned back, and a precedent is set, ALL our rights are affected. This isn't so much about holding the line for them as it is for holding the line for us.
I remember talking about white folks being equally short sighted. When Va or whatever state that was that passed the law that police cams could not be released to the public, it was passed with the intent of stopping protests and aimed at BLM. The police don't just abuse us though. Poor whites are becoming a target, and eventually all but the very wealthy will be on their radar because of the private prison industry we have in this country. They passed laws like this in order to prevent US from getting transparency and justice, but it affects THEM as well. There are some instances where there is selective policing, but the law doesn't say only black folks get denied, EVERYONE gets denied.
How many BGOLers do we have originally from other countries who now have citizenship or are legal residents? How many of them have EVER been in trouble with the law even ONCE? The incident was almost 20 years ago with no problems before or since. If they start going through police records of naturalized citizens, which they appear to be doing, then what? This is coordinated. It's systematic. It's coming for everyone. The story I posted in the other thread was ICE doing random stops and asking for ID. A Haitian guy got snatched up. Just like white folks call the police because they see a black person in THEIR area, they are going to start approaching black and brown folks who are in THEIR country. It's papers please all over again for black folks.
My late sister-in-law used to think it was hilarious that Mexicans would stop me from time to time speaking Spanish asking for assistance, simply because I looked in their direction and smiled while shopping. I can count to 20 in Spanish and that's about it. I stopped wearing my hair slicked back in a bun several years ago because at the height of the Fox News attack on Mexicans, I was suddenly getting evil looks and glares from older white men. I mean really hostile, menacing glares where they would just look at me and follow me turning their heads to watch where I went. Thankfully no one ever said anything to me, but I had a real fear. These Trump folks are not so restrained. Racists don't care if they have the RIGHT brown person. They just want a target that looks close enough to the object of their hate. We saw this after 9/11 when they were committing hate crimes against Indians and Sikhs. If someone decides to put their hands on me, I'm not able to defend myself well.
We can't be complacent and think this will all pass by our door step. It's going to knock on everyone's door.

I feel you. I used to think that we have and had it the worst in the USA but you all have changed my mind. Im not sure if we as Black people benefit at all from illegal immrigation either..
But it's right thing to do! We may not get anything tangible at all from a group who are our direct competition, but the intangible fact that our hearts are light and we sleep with no guilt is what's important right now.

SMH. We have had it the worst. Things have gotten better in some areas, but mostly mistreatment against us has evolved and is seen as acceptable because of they very same type of propaganda that is being used against immigrants. White folks and other groups hear from birth that blacks are lazy. Criminals. Dumb. They are always shocked to see a black person able to analyze a situation or speak in a complete sentence. No one questions what they are taught as a kid. Very few even question it as they get older.. There are areas where white folks can go from sun up to sundown and never see a black person. All they know is the stereotypes they have been taught, and what is portrayed on tv, which until the past 20 years or so has been mostly poor folks, maids, or criminals. Many will go away to college or travel and have experiences that show their education to be a lie, but that isn't the case for everyone. I used to know a girl who went to college with this chick that had never seen a black person before. They had community showers and she said she would always stare at her because she was taught the palms of our hands and soles of our feet were black, and they aren't. (She ended up beating her ass when she called her a Black ****** bitch.)
When I talk or comment on stuff like this elsewhere I tend to draw parallels between what was done to us and what is being done to them. It needs to be tied together. Yes this is horrible and we need to stop it AND what was done to us was worse and we STILL haven't recovered AND so we can't repeat this again. We can bring our history into remembrance even as we are reminding people this is not a path we want to go down. Being willing to prevent someone else from suffering doesn't diminish what we have gone though. We shouldn't be encouraging the creation of more damaged people so they get a taste of real America. This isn't the oppression Olympics. There are no prizes for suffering more. This is history repeating itself. The point is to fight white supremacy in all it's forms, where ever it rears it's head and for whomever its coming for. If we, or they, only want to take this on when our own are are challenged, it allows it to be strengthened and grow elsewhere. We might win OUR battle for the time being, but we will lose the war. Yeah they need to pull their weight, and they are. They have all sorts of organizations for immigrants by immigrants working on their behalf. But we still need to join our voices and let folks know this is not acceptable. I'm not saying go out and march or protest, but at the very least if the topic comes up, be willing to speak up and state what they are doing is wrong. In fact when you speak up you can remind them, this isn't brand new behavior for America. Black folk have seen this play before. It doesn't go well for the minority, even if freedom is eventually won. America is attempting to screw them the way they screwed us, and it needs to stop.

We fact checked population before. There were areas in the south with high populations of black folks, highest percentage nationwide was something like 20-23%.
Also they aren't "our" babies, but I think having our history we sort of need to hold this nation responsible for their actions and remind people what happens when we let white folks equate black and brown folks with animals and do other stuff to dehumanize people. White folks aren't discriminating when it comes to hate. If you aren't white, you are a target. They aren't going to stop at oone population and say oh well the rest of those brown folks I like. It's a slippery slope. Right now we are barely viewed as Americans. They have been focused on Muslims and Lationos because it is till to racially charged to attack us outright. They've only been doing it around the edges talking about Chicago's and gangs. Once the other groups marinate a bit it will be right back to us with a full onslaught tho, and made more acceptable due to months of berating the other brown folks becoming normalized. We should be leading the pack in holding America's shame out so they don't go down this path again.
