Today the May Xbox One update arrives for gamers around the world. As part of our ongoing effort to continually improve the Xbox experience, we’ve got a feature-packed update that enables you to get even more out of your console with some exciting new features. Here’s what’s new:

Connect with Gamers Across Xbox Live and Discord

In response to your feedback, you now have the option to link your Discord account to your Xbox account, making it easier than ever to see what your friends are playing. Starting from the Discord app on PC or on a mobile device, you will see an option to link your Xbox account with your Discord account through the Connections tab under User Settings. Click on the Xbox Live option and sign in to your account. After enabling permission, your accounts will be linked. Starting from your Xbox One, open the Account Settings menu and select “Linked social accounts.” Here, you will see a new option for linking your Discord account. Once you receive your unique code from Xbox, open the Discord app and insert the code within the Connections tab. After following these few simple steps, your accounts will be linked and your Xbox Live presence will be shared across Discord, enabling friends and users in your same Discord servers to see what you are playing on Xbox Live.

120Hz Video Refresh Rate Support

Console owners already enjoy variable refresh rates, the option of 1440p resolution, and auto low latency mode (read more about that here). In this update, we’re adding support for additional panel refresh rates. Gamers using monitors and televisions that support a 120Hz refresh rate can now turn on 120Hz support for 1080p and 1440p output resolutions on Xbox One S and Xbox One X. This high refresh rate option means you can now take full advantage of displays with 120Hz capabilities. High refresh rate support can provide a smoother gaming experience and lower latency on some displays, and games may benefit from reduced tearing and stuttering via 120Hz output.

Trim Clips Directly in the Guide

With the April Xbox Update, we added a new sharing feature that helps gamers upload their captured screenshots and videos directly to Twitter. Now, sharing is getting even quicker! With the May update, you can trim your recent game captures directly from the Guide, so you won’t need to switch to Upload Studio to make a quick cut to your saved clips.

Improved Family Settings

Xbox One continues to help parents keep their families safe with updates to family settings. We’re adding a “Details” page where parents can easily find and manage all family settings on Xbox One. Parents will easily be able to tell which family and content settings are set up and configured. Important settings that are turned off or require attention will be flagged for parents, as well. Some settings, such as activity reports and Screen Time Limits, can only be accessed through the web: We’ll identify those settings and provide links where parents can easily set them up.

New Intuitive Button Commands

Some of the button commands throughout the dashboard are being refreshed for easier navigation. For example, you can now use the “View” button on Home to edit the order of blocks or reorder items within Groups. Pressing the “View” button on the main tab of the Guide will also now display additional capture options. Note: If you group your collections in My Games & Apps by letter, you will now need to select a letter to view all groups.

Improvements to the Xbox Accessories App

The Xbox Accessories app has been modernized to make it easier to navigate, and to look and feel more consistent with the rest of the Xbox One dashboard.

And lastly, a special shout out to the Xbox Insiders who have helped shape these features. If you’d like to help shape the future of Xbox and get access to early features, download the Xbox Insider Hub app on your Xbox One or Windows 10 PC. You can also visit the Xbox Insider blog here for release notes and to learn more.

Man Kotaku was like a kick to the gut. The game is just a constant loop. At least let me keep my shit and play on a harder difficulty.
"I loaded a truck full of rucksacks and drove to a new map, hoping that would trigger the leader quests. Perhaps I should have expected that a new territory would mean all-new problems, because it was essentially like starting the game over. The truck full of resources disappeared once we crossed the county line, leaving my group stranded in the dark, depressed and starving. Once again, I set out on foot to find a new home. The map was full of plague hearts, which I’d have to eradicate before I could hopefully begin building my illustrious legacy."

^^^ Activision jumping on the BR bandwagon..

At least Battlefield will have a SP mode(supposedly there two games being developed..the main DICE studio is making one set during World War II while the spin-off studio is doing Bad Company 3)

LEAK: Black Ops 4 Free Multiplayer DLC & Zombies Season Pass

LEAK-Black-Ops-4-Free-Multiplayer-DLC-Zombies-Season-Pass.jpg

Since the reveal of Call of Duty Black Ops 4 on Thursday, there has been one thing on everyone’s mind, what about DLCs?

Over the recent years, the reveal of the game has also come with the reveal of a season pass. Alongside that players have also usually been given the ability to buy the season pass then and there. This has not been the case with Black Ops 4, so far no season pass has been announced and the specialist edition of the game has been revealed without it.

Gaming INTEL has received exclusive information from multiple sources that explains this unexpected lack of a season pass.

Our exclusive sources claim that there will be a radical shift in how content is provided for both the Multiplayer and Zombies modes in Black Ops 4, moving from an overall season pass model where four multiplayer maps and one zombies map are released every couple of months to something completely different.

Treyarch is, according to our sources, pushing Activision to allow them to release a Zombies DLC Season Pass, which would act similar to a normal Season Pass but would instead only contain maps for the Zombies mode. Whether this means there will be more Zombies maps per DLC release, or if this will be sold for the same price as the standard Season Pass we do not know.

As for multiplayer, our sources claim that this is where we will see the most radical shift in the delivery of content. As opposed to players getting the usual four maps every couple of months they will receive a map, or in some cases two maps, every month for free.

This change in direction is supposedly being sought by Treyarch due to the steady fall off in players that Call of Duty titles sees after the release of a map pack. While the player base sees a slight increase directly after the release of a new map pack, that drops back down again relatively quickly. To avoid this in the future a single or two monthly maps may be vastly superior.

The other reason for this change may also lie with the new Blackout mode. Call of Duty titles often sees fractures in the player base after a DLC launch, as people who buy the season pass are separated from those who did not. Blackout will only make this division in the player base wider, so keeping the core multiplayer audience in a single matchmaking pool will be essential for Treyarch moving forward.

This shift in the release of DLC was also hinted at by Dan Bunting, the co-studio head of Treyarch, in an interview with Polygon.

“I can’t tell you at this point in time what that’s going to look like,” Bunting said. “But I can tell you that we are pushing hard to release content to our fans in a way that’s going to make them happy and a way that we believe is the right thing to do in this stage in our game’s lifespan.”

While all leaks should be taken with a pinch of salt this information has been verified by multiple sources, though Treyarch’s DLC release plans could change in the future.

Battlefield 5 teaser hints at return to World War 2

Electronic Arts dropped a newBattlefield 5tease on Twitter today that is, to be perfectly frank about it, almost entirely uninformative. What you get are sounds of battle and muffled screaming, followed by a quick close-up of a man wearing goggles, who puts a finger to his lips, gesturing for quiet. CUT TO LOGO—END SCENE.

Who is this strange, friendly-looking fellow? Is he Tom Berenger telling you to shut up and take the pain, so you won't give away your position to the VC? Is he a huge SS guy telling you to hush, it'll all be over soon, as he slides your own knife between your ribs? Is it Der Alte warning that if you don't shut your mouth like right freakin' now he's going to have to put a bullet in you to save the rest of the crew from horrific death beneath the waves?

Who knows? The interesting bit is actually to be found in the score bar at the top of the screen, and the national flags it contains: That's the Union Jack on the left, the famous flag of the UK, and the Balkenkreuz on the right, used by Germany during the Second World War—and, asWikipediatells us,onlyduring that war. Prior to 1935, and since 1955, the Iron Cross has been used as the symbol of Germany's armed forces.

The implication is that Battlefield 5 will be set during the Second World War, something that hadpreviously been rumoredback in March. EA gave some credence to that rumor withanother tweetover the weekend, describing the game as "a new Battlefield in a new setting"—not necessarily WW2, obviously, but definitely not WW1. It also took the opportunity to jerk us around a bit on the title:

I will bevery annoyed if they end up calling it Battlefield: Victory or somesuch. We'll find out what's going on in a couple of days: The full Battlefield 5 review, hosted byTrevor Noah, will take place on May 23.

Oh No, There Are Women In Battlefield V
hsbhhiidigxqogvmlbni.jpg

There are women in Battlefield V, a game set during the Second World War. They’re in the game, they’re in the trailer, they’re even on the posters! And a lot of people are very upset. Is this what their forefathers fought for?

Here's Our First Look At Battlefield V, Which Goes Back To WWII
Battlefield is going back to World War II, developer DICE said during a livestream today, promising …

To recap, in case your job is blessed and does not require you to monitor the worst of websites like Reddit and Twitter, some folks are angry that their favourite violent multiplayer shooter, which has never been based on anything approaching historical accuracy, now has historically inaccurate portrayals of women and a black man fighting—with guns!—in the Second World War.

It’s tiring to have to face this year after year, so it’s almost not even worth pointing out—like the guy at the bottom there tries—that women served in armed forces across the world during the conflict. Mostly as support personnel, yes, but there were also examples—in the Soviet Union especially—where they served on the frontlines, both on the ground and in the air.

But like, that doesn’t even matter here. Any idea that this, of all things, is what shatters the credibility and historical credentials of a series that has long reduced the war to endless skirmishes between jeep-flipping, plane-crashing brave soldiers named 69XX_cvmlauder_xx69 is insane. Watch this trailer and tell me that, above everything else, it’s the gender and race of the combatants that seems unrealistic:

Yet that’s where we are today, because we’re talking about the words “historical accuracy” among gamers on the internet.

Those two words rarely mean what they look like they mean. At face value they appear to suggest a game has, or is striving to attain, some semblance of accuracy in its portrayal of the events of the past.

The nature of video games means that rarely happens. To capture history in a digital experience would require a developer to adapt the language, architecture, beliefs, society, and culture of the place and time being represented, and to do so knowing that the records of the past (and subsequent writings) were shaped by the prevailing politics.

To truly present something “accurate” to the time period would probably result in a game you wouldn’t really enjoy playing. What we often see in a “historical” FPS action game is just the visual trappings. And that’s okay—it’s a mass-market action game, not a history lesson.

What angry dorks mean when they say “historical accuracy” is not a game that’s accurate to the time being presented, then, but accurate to the aspects of that time (or the popular historical re-telling of it) that are sympathetic to their current political and cultural beliefs.

It doesn’t bother them that a randomly-created soldier with no training can jump behind the controls of a complex fighter aircraft, or expertly handle a cross-section of enemy weapons. They don’t care that the streets of European cities aren’t recreated 1:1, or that uniform details aren’t strictly adhered to, or that Battlefield’s war is fought to time limits and kill counts.

Those things are acceptable compromises. It’s a video game, and those are video game things that the Second World War just needs to accommodate with its representation in order to work. Yet introduce something as relatively harmless (it has zero impact on gameplay!) as women or black soldiers where historically there were none, and suddenly the sky is falling.

It’s almost as though opposition to a British woman holding a gun, or a black man serving in a combat role has little to do with “historical accuracy,” and everything about someone finding their current views on gender, race and society challenged in a space—the good old days—they thought was safe.

Battlefield isn’t, and never has been, about recreating the past. There are far more serious and studious Second World War games for that kind of business. Instead, it’s always been about letting people in the present use war as a playground. And if DICE wants to broaden the scope of those represented in those games, then that’s awesome for everyone involved.

Well, almost everyone.

State of Decay 2 Breaks Record with Over 1 Million Players in First Two Days of Global Release

As we close out our first week of the zombie apocalypse, we wanted to welcome and say thank you to the over one million fans playing State of Decay 2, helping break the million player mark, and answering the question: how will you survive?

Since Early Access for the Ultimate Edition on May 18 and the global release of the Standard Edition on May 22, we have had over a million survivors across the globe playing and creating their own zombie survival story. Throughout launch, there have been over six million combined hours of State of Decay 2 gameplay, and we’ve watched nearly 3.5M hours of gameplay across Mixer, Twitch and YouTube Gaming from over 41,000 unique broadcasts.

Watching players create new communities, forge friendships and test survival skills contributed to making State of Decay 2 one of the top-watched titles this week. Across player communities, we’ve seen survivors kill over 675 million zombies, throw over 6 million firecrackers and fireworks (survivors still find ways to celebrate), eat over 6 million bags of snacks, read over 2 million textbooks, and typically survive for about three days (with some players surviving for over an in-game month – a lofty goal to aim for your session this weekend).

After this exciting debut, we look forward to seeing the community continue to grow thanks to fans and Xbox Game Pass members sharing their stories and showing off their ultimate survival plan.

If you haven’t joined the community just yet, you can start playing with your Xbox Game Pass membership or purchase the Standard Edition for $29.99 and the Ultimate Edition for $49.99. As an Xbox Play Anywhere game, one digital purchase gets you both the Xbox One and the Windows 10 version of the game. While you wait for State of Decay 2 to download, check out the below for a quick recap, along with a look at the gameplay and a developer interview:

Putting this giant open-world zombie survival sim in the hands of fans has exposed some bugs and issues – we’ve addressed and will continue to address them as we hear more from players. The team at Microsoft Studios and Undead Labs continue to work on updating the game to address these issues as our number one priority. If you are having any problems with the game, please check out our support page here.

Again, on behalf of Microsoft Studios and Undead Labs, we’re excited and humbled to see more survival stories in State of Decay 2. How will you survive?

It's fun but I didn't realized they went backwards with some things until someone on Twitter mentioned it. You can't board up your house, you can't call in people to pick up supplies you find and your group never leaves the damn house at all.
