THE EXPANSE: The Show You’ve Been Wanting Since Battlestar Galactica

:angry::mad:
and IMO Krypton too..may check out of watching that after the finale

Like I said in the Dark Matter thread.. I've got zero faith in Syfy now.
They went through all that time trying to bring fans back by saying they wanted to bring more original content. They earned some good will by letting 12 monkeys get a proper ending even though its ratings were at the bottom.

But then they pull shit like this.... Get rid of your heavy fan shows like Expanse and Dark Matter and bring in shit like Ghost Wars.

So why would I want to watch Krypton or the upcoming Nightflyers if they continue to cancel shows without letting them get a proper ending..

If you are going to do this... then go the UK route and have 1 season shows. Give a show 20 episodes for a complete series and then do another show.

Sad news. I hope somebody (Netflix) picks it up. At least for a season or two to resolve the plots. I understand it must have been expensive to produce but more than other FX/CGI heavy shows? idk about that.

Syfy

The current third season of The Expanse will be the space drama’s last one on Syfy. The cable network has decided not to renew the show for a fourth season, with the last episode slated to air in early July. Alcon Television Group, which fully finances and produces the critically praised series, plans to shop it to other buyers.

The Expanse transported us across the solar system for three brilliant seasons of television,” said Chris McCumber, President, Entertainment Networks for NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment. “Everyone at Syfy is a massive fan of the series, and this was an incredibly difficult decision. We want to sincerely thank The Expanse’s amazing cast, crew and all the dedicated creatives who helped bring James S.A. Corey’s story to life. And to the series’ loyal fans, we thank you most of all.”

Syfy
The Expanse was one of the first series greenlighted after the change in programming direction at Syfy, signaling a return to the network’s roots with the sweeping space opera series in the vein of Battlestar Galactica. The Expanse, from Alcon and the Sean Daniel Co, which was tipped as a potential successor to BSG, was part of a crop of Syfy series that launched in 2015 along with The Magicians, which was recently renewed for a fourth season, and 12 Monkeys, which was renewed for an upcoming fourth and final season.

The Expanse is one of the most well reviewed sci-fi series on TV, with the current third season scoring 100% on Rotten Tomatoes (vs. 95% for Season 2 and 76% for Season 1).

The cancellation decision by Syfy is said to be linked to the nature of its agreement for the series, which only gives the cable network first-run linear rights in the U.S. That puts an extraordinary amount of emphasis on live, linear viewing, which is inherently challenging for sci-fi/genre series that tend to draw the lion’s share of their audiences from digital/streaming.

The Expanse‘s Live+3 linear ratings started with 581,000 among adults 18-49 and 1.378 million total viewers in Season 1. Season 2 slipped to 457K in 18-49 and 1.05M viewers; Season 3 to date is running just below the Season 2 averages, at 400K and 1 million, respectively. That is below the performance of Syfy’s top dramas The Magicians and Krypton, as well as comedy Happy!, but in line with a number of co-productions on the network.

“We are very disappointed the show will not be returning to Syfy,” said Alcon Entertainment co-founders and co-CEOs Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson. “We respect Syfy’s decision to end this partnership but given the commercial and critical success of the show, we fully plan to pursue other opportunities for this terrific and original IP.”

Co-created and written by Oscar-nominated screenwriting duo Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby (Children of Men), the series is based on the bestselling book series by Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck (under the pen name James S. A. Corey). The cast includes Steven Strait, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Dominique Tipper, Cas Anvar, Wes Chatham, Frankie Adams and Thomas Jane.

Netflix should take over The Expanse and Dsrk Matter.

Those two shows and Lost in Space, they could lock down the Sci-Fi scene for sure.

Dark Matter's showrunner already tried to get Netflix to pick the show up,they declined..

as for The Expanse i bet anything that the finale will end on some b.s cliffhanger :smh:

If Netflix don’t pick it up, nobody is.

The show is dead.

The budget for a show like The Expanse is high.

Network TV is not gonna pick it up, unless they do something like CBS is doing with Star Trek Discovery and put it on their paid streaming service.

I didnt start watching Syfy like that till Dark Matter, and after that bs they pulled i was done with them. I dont play that cancel in the middle of the story sht.
I have a disease where i have to know the end to a story no matter how good/bad a movie is, which is why i dont even start some.

But everyone (mainstream) was hyping this show up to extreme levels. Dark matter was a cult hit, but this seemed too big to fail. The new Battlestar huh? Aight let me check this out.
I went back on my word and binge watched both seasons last month. Loved it.

And once again i fell for the damn okie doke. Fck any other show yall tell me to watch on this bullsht ass channel
Fck Syfy as a staff, production company, and a crew. And if you down with Syfy fck you too.

Like how can they expect Science Fiction Fans to give Nightflyers a chance? Why even watch any of their shows. It’s like they continue to ignore their audience. SciFi shows typically work better as Serial type shows. Meaning they follow a grand story arc... for fans to watch they have to fill that the show has a chance of reaching a true ending. That’s why it works to give show a early renewal... typically viewers erode because they notice that the show is on the bubble and they don’t want to get invested. That’s why SciFi shows don’t work well on network tv....

CW realized this and they noticed that people’s viewing habits changed ... they started looking at overnights and streaming revenue. They also worked extremely hard to change how people see the CW. they have claimed the throne for Genre Tv. Why... Cause of Supernatural...
Here’s why.. Supernaturals viewers would be small on ABC or NBC but for CW they are nice.. those fans are also loyal. They come back year after year.. So CW decided to focus on bringing in that audience.. because the one thing about SciFi fans.. we are loyal and we are passionate. And if you make us believe that you are willing to let a SciFi show play itself out.. then we will comeback to your other shows.

There is no reason why SciFi is struggling...
all they have to do is look at CW and copy their model. Give shows a chance... put them on regular hours and surround the shows with comparable genre shows. For Example... The Expanse should be on Fridays and Paired with another genre show like The Magicians.

I was holding off on picking up the books cause I love the show so much.

Now I guess the books will be all we got left.

And I cant believe Netflix passed on it.

I think the problem with SyFy channel executives is they are looking at Neilson ratings.

Neilson ratings don’t apply in today’s TV viewing era.

People watch TV completely different.

The DVR has changed shit with folks recording programs and watching at later date.

Then there is ONDEMAND.

Like pointed out you have online streaming.

Then you got the folks that don’t have the patience or time to invest Week after Week and wait until the season is complete and binge watch it on Netflix or somewhere else.

I was recording Krypton and was gonna binge watch it sometime this summer, I have changed my mind and said fuck it. No sense in investing time into a show that might get cancelled midway thru it’s 3rd season.

I seriously can’t believe that Syfy cancelled this show. It’s doesnt make any sense.

This shit is Fiyah.

This one hurts!

Mainly, because you don't typically get this type of "epicness" writing, acting, suspense etc from this genre.

Outside of the Startrek stuff, the last show of this caliber was probably Battlestar G and these assholes just canceled it.

You have a show getting raved reviews. Which tells me if the numbers are down then it's not the show and instead, it's likely the marketing!

Fam if you really knew why THE EXPANSE was cancelled.... You wouldn't trust Syfy again. That's why I haven't even tried to get to invested in Krypton.

So basically a Fucking Science Fiction Network... who should know that your audience is likely a bunch of kats that watch their shows digitally or DVR ... entered into a Deal that was basically predestined to fail. Syfy doesn't get those types of numbers anyway.. .Why would you produce a show that only gives you first-run linear rights? It's the EXACT SAME BULLSHIT that did in DARK MATTER...

WTF? Huh?

No?

Are you serious?

Why?

What's the point of calling yourself a science fiction channel when you get rid of top notch science fiction shows....it makes no god dayum sense...:smh::smh::smh:

In 2017/18 why are they making "live viewing" deals with an 18yr+ old demographic on a cable channel.

That is the dumbest thing I've heard.

So now that the live numbers arent what they expect they cancel. Smh.
