I didn't vote for Hillary. I didn't vote for anyone at the top of the ticket in 2016. I was disillusioned with the process and the dem's fuckery. I have always had serious issues with Hillary as a candidate. She never had my support in 2008 and I think she made serious missteps as Sec of State. All that said, she would have been better than Trump on many levels. Do I regret my decision now? Some days. Fact of the matter is, I live in a state that was going red no matter what, so it didn't really matter. But I think about it. I understand the perspective that Trump's fuckery is forcing many people off the sidelines who wouldn't have been moved that way by a continuation of status quo under Hillary. I've voiced that sentiment myself on occasion. A lot of harmful policies and mentalities are being allowed to thrive under Trump. That's not lost on me. For myself, I think I saw Trump's Presidency as an inevitability on some levels. He's exactly what our society produces. Seeing that in the spotlight and under a microscope is, on some levels, good for us. This to me, is not some type of 'woke' perspective though. More like some 'make me wanna holler, throw up both my hands' type shit. I have no love for Trump, his supporters, the GOP, the NRA or any delusional niggas who feel supporting any of those is a path forward. But....on some level....I passively participated in Trump coming to power. The fact that my name can in any way be associated with that bothers me, so for that I have some level of regret. I'm sorry, y'all.
I appreciate this. The important thing is you learned your lesson. Far too many haven't. So in that respect, don't even consider my comments directed at you. You've made your course correction.
If Hillary had been up against a normal republican, we would have been ok. We would still have folks like Ryan trying to privatize social security and take away health care, but it wouldn't be this circus we have now. We aren't being assaulted on one or two major fronts we can organize against. Every day there are 20 million things popping off to the point no one can grasp all of it, let alone organize a defense to fight back. It's intentional chaos. At this point we need dems back in power just to get some breathing room, because the GOP is complicit.
There are a lot of who assumed dems had the numbers to win it. It wasn't just the third party voters, there was an active ongoing voter suppression machine working against us. Black folk voted for Hillary in higher numbers than everyone else,
but turnout fell. The Russian interference. Bernie not calling for unity and threatening to contest the primary. Hillary's mistakes. A perfect storm.
My issue is the third party voters who kept saying things couldn't be worse under Trump, and refuse to acknowledge, especially after this first year, that well yeah maybe the party in office DOES matter and yeah things can get worse. My issue is the black folks telling other black folks voting doesn't matter and that we shouldn't participate "because racism", as though there aren't degrees to the fuckery we are exposed to. Trump's racism from the 70's, to the central park 5 and beyond was well established. Keeping a known racist, who was riling up other racists, out of office should have been motivation enough for black folks. And the white liberals were more interested in making a point, and they have that luxury because none of the racial stuff affects them. They are set to do it again during the midterms.
Everyone knew Trump was only going to have like minded folks surrounding him. He sets the tone, and the tone he has set is its ok to be dismissive and demeaning to everyone. Even general Kelly has lied and made racially charged comments when Lt. Johnson was killed, and he is supposed to be the adult.
We have Betsy DeVos screwing our educational system. Pruitt jacking up the EPA. And Ben Carson telling poor folks their rent is too low while he spends more than they make in a year for a dining room table. We can survive one bad pick, what do you do when every single dept is headed by someone who wants to destroy it? Judges to lifetime appointments who have never tried a case? Who don't know bbasic rules of law? Only embarrassment got them withdrawn.
I will keep making the point tho, because too many still don't realize the danger we are in. They are still focused on teaching dems a lesson, rather than taking back power. Trump and Israel want a war with Iran. We are pushing away our allies and embracing countries who have wanted to see the downfall of the USA since forever. Trump is holding the door open for them.
