I still think that to be the man you look at world wide numbers.
It has a legit shot at Furious 7 and Avengers... but Avatar record is the gold standard.
AGREED...
But I think the LEVEL and SPEED in which BP did those numbers in the US...
ESPECIALLY with all race issues?
is HUGE.
And THEN after all those articles saying Black movie s do so POORLY overseas
ESPECIALLY in China (Asian countries)
and for BP to dispel THAT myth too?
Big things
and also rememeber
Avatar, etc. didn't have to deal with the level of technology DEDICATED to bootlegging like Black Panther did.
Oh no don’t get it twisted... Black Panther is a Fucking achievement. If it didn’t make a dollar more... it’s an achievement. I just that to be the man... you look at the world wide numbers. But where it sits domestically right now is redic...
I tried to tell ya’ll niggas... Avatar 2 is the only thing on the horizon that I think has a legit shot to beat the record.
Yep.will Infinity War give it a Boost when it comes out in a couple wks...?
Just realized i saw it in neither. I may check it in one of those formats during the next re-release.That's why the people who didn't see it in IMAX or 3D don't see what the big deal was. That's why I say they did themselves a disservice to not have seen it the way it was meant to be seen.

I may never watch it because I didn't see it in the theaters. Just wouldn't be the same.Yeah, the story was simplistic and not that great in Avatar
Nobody cares about the story or what's going to happen.
The amazing part was what they did visually with the movie. Too much has been done since Avatar for it to push the boundaries like that again.

Marvel had the backing of Disney, arguably the biggest entertainment giant!! Who gonna back us??we need our own studio ....take a page out of marvel`s book ...
control ur own shit u can make what u want n how u want ....
i cringe when i think if sony would have bought all the marvel hero`s back in the day when they were trying to sell them ...

Yes and Yes and even more yes; But BP had the backing of the mouse which was huge; and it was a fucking great movie; that combination is why it won big!!!AGREED...

‘Black Panther’ ends Saudi Arabia’s ban on movie theaters

“Black Panther” will put an end to Saudi Arabia’s 35-year ban on movie theaters later this month, according to new reports.
The Marvel blockbuster will be the first film to be shown in a public theater in the kingdom since its cinema ban was lifted four months ago, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The new 620-seat AMC theater is set to open April 18 in the capital city of Riyadh, and will screen “Black Panther” for five days. It’ll be followed by another blockbuster, “Avengers: Infinity War,” set to be released April 26.
“We think it’s going to be the prettiest movie theater in the world,” AMC chief executive Adam Aron told the Guardian. “It’s a dramatic building.”
The opening is part of a deal with AMC, the world’s biggest cinema chain, to open 40 theaters in some 15 Saudi cities over the next five years, the BBC reported. The theaters would not be segregated by gender, as are most other public venues in the country.
It’s all part of an ambitious plan for economic and social reform, called Vision 2030, spearheaded by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, 32, the outlet reported.
The conservative kingdom had cinemas in the 1970s, but they were closed on the orders of hardline Islamic clerics, according to the report.
While many Saudis enjoy Western media and culture, they have been forced to watch movies privately on their phones and via satellite TV at home, the outlet reported.
Saudi authorities and cinema operators believe there is a huge untapped market that could generate nearby a billion dollars in annual ticket sales through about 350 theaters by 2030.
It’s unclear what kind of movies will be permitted, and some may be censored, according to the report.
In another move that has stirred up dissent from conservative clerics, Prince Mohammed announced that beginning in June, Saudi women will be permitted to drive for the first time.

it has 620 seats ...? is that a lot ...?
can a small country like saudi really make a dent in the over all numbers ...?

Financially no but think about the cultural impact of the first movie theater experience for these people ever being an all black, positive, action film.
That image of us mixed with that experience will stick with them forever and can shape a lot of their views of black people moving forward.
First movie in 35 years.it has 620 seats ...? is that a lot ...?

First movie in 35 years.
That means the majority of the population never had an opportunity to see a film at all until now. I think they'll turn out.
They might have to censor the references to panther gods and things of that nature though.
