Biz: Disney CEO Hints at Black Panther Theme Park Ride

http://www.blackenterprise.com/disney-ceo-hints-at-black-panther-theme-park-ride/

A Black Panther theme park ride is in the works, Bob Iger, chief executive of the Walt Disney Co. hinted on Monday.

Iger mentioned the news to a room full of Wall Street analysts while speaking at Morgan Stanley’s Technology, Media and Telecom Conference in New York.

“No, we haven’t had a chance to build a ride,” he said. “Though I’m sure there are people who are working on it.”

Marvel Studio’s Black Panther continues to dominate box offices since its release, becoming the studio’s third-highest grossing release of all-time domestically, behind The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron. It is no surprise that the multinational conglomerate is trying to cash in on the hype.

He called the film “an important moment in culture” and noted that fans line up for about an hour at Disneyland, just to meet the Black Panther character.

“I pretty much guarantee that this coming Halloween and even Christmas, you know you’ll be seeing a lot of Black Panther merchandise,” Iger said.

He also said Black Panther will become Disney’s 12th billion-dollar franchise.

Iger also revealed that he expects his company to get regulatory approval of its $52.4 billion acquisition of most of the assets of 21st Century Fox and that his company will use some of Fox’s content for the launch of a Netflix-like streaming service, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

When Disney’s Over The Top (OTT) service launches next month, it will have less content than Netflix but Iger said it will have more branded content from Marvel, Lucasfilm, and Pixar. The Avengers movie, Toy Story 4, the next Frozen, Aladdin, and Dumbo are among the titles that will exclusively stream on the service. It will also have 5,000 episodes of Disney-branded TV, library movies and as many as five original shows and five original movies, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The company is also launching a similar service for ESPN that will feature narrow offerings so consumers can purchase passes to every game played by a certain team, every game in a sport or every game in a particular season.

I just want a legit Black Panther cartoon...

Not that Animated Comic Series on BET. A legit Cartoon.... I basically want them to take the Black Panther that was on Earths Mightiest and give him his own show.

I'm not even going to try to guess on Rampage. The Rock is just bankable.

Yeah I don't see a movie topping that one....

The Only movie on the Horizon with a Legitimate Shot is Avatar 2...

Avatar 2 like the Force Awakens is going to Wreck Shop on folks and the crazy shit is that by the time Avatar 2 drops Disney will have full ownership of it .
If bp doesn't do it I think infinity is... I think bp Jus's helped pushed the marvel universe even more.. Infinity or avengers 4 takes down force awakens

@tallblacknyc

the MINUTE people heard Black Panther in Infinity Wars?

I saw so many NON comic book movie fans EAGER to go see it

Its almost like when DMX released 2 full length albums in the same year

casual fans are considering this like Black Panther 2

Always bet on BLACK!

Box Office: 'Black Panther' Now Between 'Dark Knight Rises' And 'Avengers: Age Of Ultron'

Chadwick Boseman, Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyong’o

Walt Disney and Marvel’s Black Panther earned $16.304 million (-43%) on its third Friday of domestic release. That brings its 15-day domestic total to $451.7m. The Ryan Coogler flick took a mere 15 days to cross $450m domestic, tying Jurassic World which also did the deed in 15 days. Of note, The Last Jedi (with the help of year-end vacation days) did it in 14 days while The Force Awakens did it in just nine days.

The Chadwick Boseman superhero flick has the fourth-biggest 15-day Friday total of all time, behind only Jurassic World ($460 million), The Last Jedi ($483.7m) and The Force Awakens ($686.3m). By the way, that $16.3m Friday is the fifth-biggest “day 15” Friday of all time, behind only the Christmas season titans Rogue One: A Star Wars Story ($18.2m in 2016), Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($19m in 2015), Avatar ($25.2m on New Years’ Day 2010) and Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($34.3m on New Years’ Day 2016).

At a glance, we’re looking at a $62.2 million (-44%) third weekend, which would be the third-biggest third weekend of all time behind only Avatar ($68.4m in 2010) and Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($90.2m in 2016). So if you want to get technical, Black Panther scored the biggest third-weekend gross ever for a movie whose third frame didn’t fall in the middle of a holiday. From this point onward, we may see a lot of “biggest except for Christmas releases”-type milestones.

Oh, and that estimated 44% drop is slightly smaller the 45% third-weekend drops for Deadpool and Spider-Man. It is also the 14th-smallest third-weekend drops for a $100 million+ opener. And there are a lot of those that dropped 42-44% in weekend three so we may see a higher placement if the movie rallies today. Either way, it’s the first MCU movie since Captain America: The Winter Soldierto top the weekend box office for three weekends, although that’s as much about soft competition as the movie (the huge numbers speak for themselves regardless of rank). Still, depending on how it holds up “against” Walt Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time (the irony is not lost on me), it may be the first MCU flick to top its first four weekends of release.

The MCU flick should have around $498 million domestic by Sunday night, meaning it’ll top $500m on Monday. It has already passed The Dark Knight Rises ($448m in 2012 and sans 3D) and will pass Avengers: Age of Ultron ($458m in 2015) today to become the third-biggest domestic superhero grosser behind only The Dark Knight ($534m in 2008) and The Avengers ($623m in 2012). None of this accounts for inflation, but the T’Challa versus Killmonger adventure isn’t nearly finished yet.

I don’t have exact worldwide estimates, but the movie all-but-certainly passed $800 million worldwide on Friday. And that means that today is the day where it tops the global grosses of Spider-Man ($821m in 2002) and Wonder Woman ($821m in 2017) to become the biggest non-sequel solo superhero movie ever. In terms of all superhero flicks, it’s behind only Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice ($873m in 2016), Spider-Man: Homecoming ($880m in 2017), Spider-Man 3 ($890m in 2007), The Dark Knight ($1 billion in 2008), The Dark Knight Rises ($1.1b in 2012), Captain America: Civil War ($1.1b in 2016), Iron Man 3 ($1.2b in 2013), Avengers: Age of Ultron ($1.4b in 2015) and The Avengers ($1.5b in 2012).

We’ll see if it can get that burst of strength required to top $500 million domestic and/or $900m worldwide by tomorrow, but it’s certainly on its way to a $1 billion+ global gross. The only questions are whether Black Panther ends up topping The Avengers in North America and Iron Man 3 worldwide to become Earth’s mightiest hero. Neither of those are as-of-yet guaranteed. But at this juncture, the best advice is to heed the immortal words of Wesley Snipes: Some mother*****s are always trying to ice skate uphill. No, wait… the other quote.

Sandra Bullock on the Emotional Impact of Black Panther as a Mother to Black Son

“I started to cry backstage when I was telling [the Black Panther cast not only] how much the film meant to me as a woman, but how much it meant to me as a mother,” she said, referencing her experience seeing the cast right before the interview.

"I'm so grateful to Marvel because about five years ago, my son asked me if there were any brown Legos,” she continued. “And I said, ‘Yes, there are,’ and I got a Sharpie and I turned Spider-Man brown, I turned the Legos brown, and I don’t have to turn them brown anymore.”

What is this bitch trying to get a sequel to blind side

So what were the numbers for this week? and damn.. it's gonna be top 5 of all time over the next two weeks.

I definitely think it has a great shot to pass The Last Jedi...

Its a given that it is going to Pass Avengers for the Top Marvel Flic..

But that Avatar number is a beast.... 760 domestic is insane.

I mean it's got a shot.... but asking for an additional 119 million domestic is a lot. A lot depends on what Winkle in Time brings in this weekend. Cause Tomb Raider opens Next and Pacific Rim Uprising Opens the week after that.

Also pay attention to Midnight Sun two weeks from Now.... It's a remake of a well loved Japanese Romance film and Bella Thorne has a audience with the Teen girls.

Then Ready Player One Drops the last week of the month.

But Black Panther still has a clear path to over take... Avengers.... Maybe Titanic (Which is still insane to think Titanic made that much back in 1997).. But I don't see it beating Avatar. I think it's going to Cap out around 3 or 4.

I just think there are two many movies that are similar dropping over the next couple weeks....

Tomb Raider is my Wild Card here....
As a guy that absolutely loved the game that this film is based on.. I'm going to be there day one, but I think that there is such a bad taste from the previous Tomb Raider movies. I think people might stay away.

And I think every one here knows my undying love for all things Pacific Rim...

If that shit opens at anything less then 100 million.. I'm going to be disappointed in America.

I dont think it will catch Titanic; It might catch Avengers but that will be tough; 123 million is a lot to bring in; I think it will finish 6th all time and 1.1 bill world wide; which that is very impressive!!!

it will blow past it...

truss me...

i study this thing...lol

the 64 this weekend solidified it ... those movies coming out will not hurt it cuz of that 64....

longevity will power this...that slow burn ...averaging in the low teens for about 2 more months ...

thats how all the top movies made their money ...

n titanic while the numbers back in 97 were impressive it did 600 on it`s 1st run ...the other 59 came on re-release ...

n titanic was the king of slow burn ...it never did huge numbers it did that low shit over dam near a yr ...

41 weekends...:eek2:...thats crazy ....force was only in theaters for 24 wks in comparison ...
