^^^ Nice Drop.
Chris Smooth hit the nail on the head.

This year... the whole MyCareer story is weak as hell.
Ssshhheeeiiittt... with all the different b-ball movies that have ever come out... 2K scriptwriters should have more than enough
'material' to create a compelling story. Year after year.
- He Got Game
- Love & Basketball
- Finding Forrester
- White Men Can’t Jump
- Hoosiers
- Teen Wolf
- Blue Chips
- Semi-Pro
- Sunset Park
- Glory Road
- Coach Caarter
- Space Jam
- Above the Rim
- Hoop Dreams
- The Fish that Saved Pittsburgh
It’s not Rocket Science.
And 2K doesn’t even have to blatantly ‘rip-off’ characters, or copy whole scripts. (Not word for word.

Literally)
1 - Just simply use the
BASIC PREMISE of some of these movies to craft a compelling story arc for MyCareer.

2 - Pick out a few notable characters & involve them in the story, somehow.

3 - Incorporate some 2K
'gameplay mechanics' that are already in the game.

4 - Adjust & Tweak the story accordingly.... until it is 'cohesive'.

5 - Add a few plot twists & 'curveballs'... to spice it up.
Done Deal.

Here’s the premise of 3 different storylines I just created for a MyCareer... just based off some of these movies I mentioned above…
THE “WHITE MEN CAN’T JUMP” TYPE OF STORYLINE FOR MyCAREER:
This storyline starts off on the Streetball side of town.
You meet a guy on the Playgrounds who has a dream of being in the NBA someday, just like you do.
He hustles you out of some VC early on... but eventually you get your revenge... and win your money back... before deciding to team-up a make a run at the 5-man Streetball Tournament Title. (Sponsored by Nike, or Jordan, or Under Armour or whoever)
You both get recognized by some NBA scouts & get offered 'workouts' with different NBA teams.
In the cutscenes, (which mostly happen 'off the court') you make choices to help him decide whether he wants to play for a good-hearted basketball coach who helps out the community… or a local thug who can make millions for him, and get him signed with major sponsors deals & shoe contracts… but could also get him into trouble if he’s not careful.
One path will make both you and him Legends of the game… who help out your communities… and the other path will surely get HIM into trouble with some ‘semi-goofy loansharks’ who tend to show up at his streetball games & harass him for money, or make him do silly tasks to ‘work off his debts’. Day after day.
Sometimes you both might have to “run thru the neighborhood”, or duck into various stores to avoid being cornered by the goofballs who might make you miss important meetings & sabotage offers from sponsors… or sometimes you might have to choose between using some of your own VC to pay off his debts & keep him safe. If you decide to use your own VC, it increases different aspects of your ‘personality’ badges which (in turn) help you on the court. (Like: Enforcer, Laid Back, Hardened, Spark Plug, Wildcard, Low Ego, Keep it Real, Expressive, Unpredictable, etc)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE “HE GOT GAME” TYPE OF STORYLINE FOR MyCAREER:
In addition to all the stuff you will accomplish as an NBA player, you are also trying to help your Deadbeat Dad become a better person & rebuild the relationship between him, your brother, your sister & yourself.
Your siblings have different issues with him than you do.... which has affected their outlook on life in different ways.
Now is your time to help bring the whole family closer.
The RPG element involves your ‘responses’ to the situation which happens during the cutscenes. Just like when you get interviewed after a game… you can select different ‘responses’ that are associated with a particular ‘personality badge’. For example, Your Sister wants to attend you next home game with your Dad… but your Dad wants to play poker with his buddies instead, and watch the game on the big screen at home. You know your Sister will take it very hard if your Dad flakes out on her, like he has done so often in the past… so you talk to your Dad, and you are given 2-4 different choices.. so you can select an Aggressive Response, or a Laid Back Response, or an Unpredictable Response, or a Keep It Real Response. or a Friendly Response, etc.
As you make choices which help repair the ‘family bonds’ that bring you all closer… it increases different aspects of your ‘personality’ badges which (in turn) help you on the court. (Like: Enforcer, Laid Back, Hardened, Spark Plug, Wildcard, Low Ego, Keep It Real, Expressive, Pat My Back, Unpredictable, Legendary Work Ethic, etc)
These responses that you can choose are always different… and RANDOM… and sometimes you don’t always have to side with your siblings, if you are trying to build up a certain ‘personality’ badge that will be useful in the long run… or in a different situation. Therefore, your siblings might get upset with you today, but you might have their back later on… on a major issue. And everything still works out, in the long run.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE “SEMI-PRO” TYPE OF STORYLINE FOR MyCAREER:
Make the MyCareer story more of a COMEDY which centers around a struggling College Basketball team which has 2 TOP NBA Prospects (i.e. the 2 top prospects are YOU and a rival teammate of yours, who is difficult to get along with on the court).
Sure, you guys are on the same team… but you are more like hilarious FRENEMIES.

lol
So this Rivalry will surely continue into the Pros when you each get drafted by NBA Rivals that ALSO have a rabid fan base. (like The Cavs & The Warriors

for example)
As you progress your MyPlayer, you are also trying to settle your differences on the NBA courts... and out in the Parks... and in the Pro-Am leagues. Its’ friendly competition. But not too friendly.
And the BEST PART is… you both have an ENTOURAGE (i.e. a mix of males and females) that will help you pull off some zany stunts, capers & pranks behind the scenes… (while you are on the courts, playing NBA games)… without getting you in trouble with the League.
This cast of buddies should be filled with surprises & jokes. And their antics could get you noticed by Sponsors of all sizes, from the mom & pop shops… to the Big Boys, like Gatorade, Nike & Brand Jordan, etc.
But be careful.
Because sometimes your Entourage can get you noticed by 'hard to get' Sponsors… and sometimes they can get you in trouble with the Sponsors. Or even dropped. (Depending on your level of involvement with the antics & your performance on the court)
Therefore, sometimes you might have to decide to drop someone from your Entourage. Or replace them. Or flat-out TRADE THEM to your Frenemy’s Entourage

for someone that HE wants to get rid of too, who would probably work out better in YOUR camp, than HIS.
Be advised… sometimes you are gonna take some serious L’s in the ‘War of Words’.
And sometimes you are gonna win some ‘flawlessly victories’, amidst all the shenanigans.
(And maybe someone will have to wrestle a bear .. but it's too early to tell just yet who it might be.

)
All of which ultimately affect your ‘fan base’ at the end of the day. (For Better or Worse)
But over time, despite all the wins, losses, pranks & random ‘shots fired’…. you will finally realize that ALL of you…. push each other towards GREATNESS.
Again, as you interact with your Frenemy and his sidekicks.. which inevitably happens during the cutscenes… or during post-game interviews.. or on social media… your ‘responses’ & ‘taunts’ will help build up different ‘personality’ badges.
Who knows? Perhaps one day, after you both are finished playing in the NBA, the jabs you all keep taking back-n-forth at each other are actually paving the way to create a SMASH ‘tv sitcom’… or a popular sports show, like ‘First Take’.
