Why do teams keep helping these fools out?

CLEVELAND -- With the NBA trading deadline just 10 days away, the defending champion Cavaliers continued to tweak their team Monday, trading Chris "Birdman" Andersenand cash to the Charlotte Hornets to open up a roster spot, the Cavs announced.

Andersen, 38, suffered a season-ending injury in December, when he tore his right ACL. Signed in the offseason to provide depth at the big-man position, Andersen played in 12 games this season, averaging 2.3 points and 2.6 rebounds.

Cleveland also receives a 2017 second-round pick from Charlotte that is top-55 protected, a league source told ESPN.

The Cavs have been open about trying to find an additional point guard or rim protector to steel their squad for a potential third straight trip to the NBA Finals.

Swingman Derrick Williams, signed to a 10-day contract last week, has impressed so much that LeBron James has advocated for keeping him "long term," but he offers a separate skill set than what a point guard or big man would provide.

The hornets trying to free money, so it's a win win, but because it's Lebron there lies the problem

Derrick Williams admits feeling disrespected when no one claimed him off waivers

The Miami Heat caused quite a stir recently when they went on an improbable 13-game winning streak. Another thing that caught the attention of many was when they waivedDerrick Williams to create a roster spot forOkaro White, who has impressed them since being called up from the D-League.

Asked to give his thoughts about the lack of interest he got after clearing waivers, Williams admitted he felt disrespected and that he knows he has to prove himself worthy to be part of a team’s roster, via Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal.

“I took that as a little disrespectful. I’ve got a little chip on my shoulder now.”

“I kind of put myself in this predicament. I asked for the release from (Miami) and I put myself in a 10 day. So I’m not worried about anything after that.”

The former second overall pick of the 2011 draft also revealed how excited he is to be part of the Cleveland Cavaliers, which is the first winning team he’s been on. He even shared what he saw in his new teammates as soon as he went inside the team’s locker room.

“Since I’ve been in the NBA, I haven’t been on a team with a winning record. It’s definitely a different feel every single time. This is my first day, but you can just feel the energy as soon as you step in the locker room. Everyone is ready to play. That’s the championship mentality everyone has here.”

“I didn’t leave New York to sit on the bench in Miami.”

“I’m still learning, man, A lot of people in this league really get counted out way too early. I have a lot of game left.”

Despite the Cavaliers long being rumored as looking for another playmaker behind Kyrie Irving, they couldn’t help but pass up on the chance to sign the talented 6-foot-8 forward. Should he continue providing quality minutes for the team in the remaining days of his contract, he will give himself an opportunity to be signed long term and force the Cavs to waive Chris Andersen to create that roster spot needed.

With that option, the Wine and Gold would still be able to sign a point guard and keep Williams at the same time. Should everything go according to plan, they will have the best possible lineup to defend their title once the playoffs begin in mid-April.

Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook reportedly eat at same OKC restaurant after game

Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant didn’t appear too fond of each other during the Golden State Warriors’ win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday night. But at least the former teammates ate at the same restaurant after the game, though they apparently avoided each other.

According to ESPN, Durant dined at Mahogany Prime Steakhouse, a popular Oklahoma City restaurant that initially rejected the former Thunder star’s request to rent out the entire establishment after the much-anticipated game. Westbrook was also seen at the same location, but he didn’t interact with Durant, according to the report.

Mahogany’s owner Dave Osborn said Durant used to frequent the restaurant during his time with the Thunder and said he told Durant he denied the Warriors’ reservation last season.

“I went into the room and told Kevin, ‘Hey Kevin, Golden State wanted to book here and I wouldn’t let ’em do it,'” Osborn said, via ESPN. “And he was all excited about it.”

The eight-time All-Star was booed every time he touched the ball Saturday night, his first trip back to Oklahoma City since he left last summer and joined the Warriors. Durant had the last laugh despite the icy reception from his former fans, finishing with a team-high 34 points and nine rebounds in the Warriors’ 130-114 win.

Durant played eight years in Oklahoma City, winning four scoring titles but reaching the NBA Finals only once.
