Zach Lavigne tore ACL. Done for the season

Damn, dude. Said he wasn't participating in the the dunk contest because he wanted to expand his game and concentrate on other things. Relies on his explosiveness, still in his rookie deal. That's tough.

Zach Lavigne tore ACL. Done for the season

LaVine tears ACL against Pistons
Minnesota Timberwolves guard Zach LaVinewill need season-ending surgery after suffering a torn ACL in his left knee, the team announced Saturday.

LaVine had an MRI before the Wolves hosted Memphis on Saturday, when the diagnosis was revealed. He suffered the injury during Friday's 116-108 loss to the Detroit Pistons.

The 21-year-old LaVine, who was averaging 18.9 points, 3.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists, will have surgery at a later date, the team said.

Just last week, LaVine had announced that hewould not defend his title in the slam dunk contest during All-Star Weekend in New Orleans.

Far from a bust but like most young players (D'Angelo Russell) is wildly inconsistent. With a lot of the offense running through Jokic now, he's having difficulty adjusting.

Add the factor of a new coach who's seeing Barton as a better option at point leaves Mudiay on the outs

He still has some talent

@Day_Carver , @Mack1052 , after watching this clip.... I fall back A LITTLE on my assessment... :D

Derrick Rose on Knicks: 'The rebuild could be me going, too'

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Phil Jackson's desire to trade Carmelo Anthony and jump-start another New York Knicksrebuild has been well-documented. It's the biggest story around the NBA during the past two weeks. And it might have even been the biggest story in sports if we weren't less than 48 hours from the Super Bowl.

Even Derrick Rose, a guy who rarely watches basketball during his down time, can't escape talk of the Anthony trade rumors.

"You hear it," the Knicks' point guard said Friday. "You have no other choice but to hear it."

The NBA trade deadline is Feb. 23, which means Jackson has less than three weeks to find a deal that works for all parties involved.

In the meantime, the Knicks are left in limbo.

Will they still be focused on a playoff push at the end of the month (they're only 1½ games out of eighth place in the Eastern Conference)? Or will they be playing for lottery position after trading Anthony?

Some veterans are privately frustrated by the uncertainty.

LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday (8:30 p.m. ET, ABC). They aren't consumed with the NBA rumor mill.

"We come here, we play, practice, do our work, get out of here, go home to our families," Courtney Lee said.

Still, it's only natural for the players to wonder what kind of domino effect an Anthony trade would have.

Rose acknowledged as much when he was asked about the potential of the Knicks rebuilding following such an event.

"Im on a one-year deal so I can't talk that much about it. The rebuild could be me going, too. I don't know," he said. "My job is to focus whenever I'm on the court, just try to win games, try to be positive, try to get better. Like I said from the beginning, I'm chasing something. I'm trying to get back to myself and I'm trying to play consistent games."

Rose, a free agent this summer, acknowledged he has thought about the possibility that he could be traded. He knows that players in the final year of their contracts are attractive trade chips. But the 28-year-old said Friday he hasn't had conversations with management or his agent, B.J. Armstrong, about any potential deals.

"It's something that hasn't been out there. It is a thought, like [I'm on] a one-year deal," Rose said. "It is a business. Just got to wait and see."

At least one opposing team sees Rose as a potential trade target, per league sources, though no deal is imminent at this point. It wouldn't be a surprise if Rose draws more interest as the deadline approaches. He'd be a strong Band-Aid for a team looking for help in the backcourt.

And if Jackson is thinking about trading Anthony, you can be sure Rose will be available as the deadline approaches.

When a team underachieves as the Knicks (22-29) have, nothing is off limits.

James looking for history when Cavs visit Knicks

NEW YORK -- LeBron James is on the verge of becoming the youngest player in NBA history to score 28,000 points. The 32-year-old James needs just 12 points to hit that plateau.

He will get his first opportunity on Saturday, when the Cleveland Cavaliers(33-15) begin a four-game road trip at Madison Square Garden against theNew York Knicks (22-29).

James has accumulated 27,988 points, good enough for eighth place on the all-time list, behind Shaquille O'Neal (28,956), who is in seventh. James is also 12 assists from passing Lenny Wilkens (7,211) for 13th place on the NBA's all-time list.

The matchup falls on the eight-year anniversary of James' 52-point performance at New York, the second of his two career 50-point games at the Garden.

After the Cavaliers finished 7-8 in January, marking the first month since James' third season in the NBA that his team was under .500 in at least 10 games, the four-time MVP was vocal about bringing in an additional playmaker to take the pressure offKyrie Irving. On Wednesday, Irving distributed a career-high 14 assists in Cleveland's 125-97 win over theMinnesota Timberwolves.

The Cavaliers auditioned Mario Chalmers, Kirk Hinrich, Jordan Farmar, and Lance Stephenson on Feb 1, but have not made a move. The player among the group that is most familiar with James is his formerMiami Heat teammate Chalmers.

New York and Cleveland got attention off the court in recent weeks as talks speculated about a Carmelo Anthonyfor Kevin Love trade. According to published reports, Cleveland was unwilling to deal Love, while Anthony would have to waive his no-trade clause.

Love missed Cleveland's previous two games due to lower back spasms, but after Friday's workout he's hopeful to return to the court for Saturday's nationally televised game.

"I feel like we do have it under control," Love told Cleveland.com. "We know exactly what's doing it now while we might not have in the past. I think it happened one or two times a couple years back, and then maybe December when I missed a game in Memphis, so I feel good."

The Knicks started February on a positive note, defeating the Brooklyn Nets 95-90 on Wednesday after going 5-12 in January. They allowed at least 100 points in 15 of those 17 games and lost four of them inside a minute to play.

Point guard Derrick Rose missed the win over the Nets -- his third straight game in street clothes with a left ankle sprain -- and it's unlikely he will be available against Cleveland. Brandon Jennings is doing a nice job starting in Rose's place at point guard, averaging 15 points and 7.6 assists in those three outings.

Willy Hernangomez is emerging as an important piece in the Knicks rotation. The 6-11 rookie center from Spain recorded two straight doubles and his defense is improving, according to Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek.

"Coaches always say, 'Make the coaches not want to pull you off the court,'?" Hornacek said. "That's how you get minutes. Willy's done a great job. Not just on the boards. His defense is picking up. Most young guys, guys coming from Europe, they don't know these players that well."

This is the third of four meetings between Cleveland and New York. The Cavaliers won the first two, 117-88 on opening night and 126-94 on Dec. 7, dealing the Knicks their two largest margin losses of the season.

Dude I think that shit is planned and the league is in cahoots with all of those daily sites! I've had at LEAST 5 times when I've picked a nice squad, and once the game starts somebody is out. Whats fucked up is, on Fanduel AND Draftkings, you can't cancel or make changes within 5 mins of start, and if they aren't notified within 30 mins of the game, they don't update the icon on the players profile, you have to click and read the notes in order to know whether they are out or not...

And even then sometimes the notes are days old. It's getting to the point where if I set my rosters up early in the day I gotta make sure I hop back on later just to make sure the players are still a go :smh:

NEW YORK -- LeBron James had 32 points and 10 assists, Kevin Love added 23 points and 16 rebounds in his return from back spasms, and the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the New York Knicks 111-104 on Saturday night.

The Cavaliers won for the ninth straight time against the Knicks and didn't even need Kyrie Irving, who didn't play because of right quadriceps soreness.

Love was back after missing two games and showed why the NBA champions may have no reason to entertain the trade rumors involving him and Carmelo Anthony that surround the teams.

The Cavs, who won the first two meetings by an average of 30.5 points, led this one by 27 in the opener to a four-game road trip.

Brandon Jennings had 23 points and 10 assists in place of point guard Derrick Rose, who missed his fourth straight game with a sprained left ankle. Anthony and Courtney Lee each added 17 points.

The Knicks have contacted the Cavs about trading him for Love, according to reports, but Love looked the better player Saturday and seemed healthy while playing 35 minutes.

James became the youngest player to surpass 28,000 points in leading the Cavs to their seventh straight win at Madison Square Garden, one of his favorite arenas. And he led the defensive effort against Anthony, who shot just 6 for 20 from the field.

One of those makes was when he stole the ball from James and dunked to cut it to 106-101 with 59 seconds left. But James came down on the next possession and found Love in the corner for an open 3-pointer, then drove around and through the Knicks defense for a dunk that pushed the lead back to double digits.

TIP-INS

Cavaliers: Cleveland improved to 13-0 against the Atlantic Division. ... Former Knicks forward Channing Frye scored 14 points.

Knicks: Starting center Joakim Noah played just six minutes because of a sore left hamstring. ... Saturday was the fifth anniversary of the kickoff of "Linsanity," when Jeremy Lin, then a little-known reserve, came off the bench to spark the Knicks a comeback victory and begin his dizzying couple of weeks when he was briefly an NBA star.

SUPER SELECTION

Cavs coach Tyronn Lue said he was picking the Patriots to win Sunday's Super Bowl because of his respect for Bill Belichick. Lue said he became a fan when he was a Celtics assistant under Doc Rivers, when the coaching staffs visited each other.

"I like what he does, I like what he brings, I like who he is as a coach," Lue said.

James declined to make a prediction.

TRIPLE, MAKE THAT, DOUBLE-DOUBLE

Saturday was the eighth anniversary of James' triple-double that wasn't. He was credited with 52 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds in the Cavs' 107-102 victory here on Feb. 4, 2009, making him the first player since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1975 with 50 points in a triple-double. But the NBA removed the final rebound shortly after following a review of the video.

"We got a win. That's the only thing that kind of mattered to me," James said when asked to recall that. "If it happens to come in the flow of the game and I'm able to get a triple-double, cool. But I've always, obviously you guys know me, I only care about the win in that sense."

BOMB SQUAD

The Knicks honored five members of their 1988-89 Atlantic Division championship team that set a then-NBA record with 386 3-pointers. Mark Jackson, Rod Strickland, Gerald Wilkins, Trent Tucker and Johnny Newman were the members of the "Bomb Squad" that made the 3-point shot a weapon under Rick Pitino long before it was utilized the way it is in today's game.

UP NEXT

Cavaliers: On Monday visit the Washington Wizards, who have won 17 straight home games.

Knicks: Host the Lakers on Monday, looking to extend a five-game winning streak in the series.
