Report: Cavs not done make moves, targeting point guard

Cleveland might not be done making moves anytime soon. According to NBA Insider Sam Amico of AmicoHoops, Cleveland is currently in talks and have the ball rolling on a move for a backup point guard.

Cleveland just made a trade, sending off Mike Dunleavy Jr. and a protected 2019 first round pick to Atlanta and a third team for Atlanta Sharpshooter, Kyle Korver. According to Amico, General Manager David Griffin is looking to address all of Cleveland’s needs in a short time.

Cleveland is no stranger to rapidfire trades. During the 2014-2015 season, LeBron’s first season back as a Cavalier, Cleveland traded for Timofey Mozgov only two days after Cleveland aquired JR Smith and Iman Shumpert in what can only be referred to as “highway robbery” on GM David Griffins’ end. Acquiring another impact rotation player right after Korver would only be a net positive for Cleveland, as the sooner Cleveland can bring in their playoff roster together, the more time the new rotation has to figure out spacing, chemistry and the Cavalier system.

Amico didn’t specify that Cleveland would be acquiring the player via trade, though with Cleveland not needing to expend their trade exception during the Korver trade, Cleveland has plenty of options when looking to acquire a player. Additionally Cleveland has reportedly cut salary with their Korver trade, possibly enticing owner Dan Gilbert into spending more money on the franchise.

If ‘getting the ball rolling’ in this case refers to a free agent point guard, Sam Amico has that covered as well. Amico reported yesterday that veteran point guards Jarrett Jack and Mario Chalmers are eyeing an early 2017 return to the league, following injury. Both Jack and Chalmers have a good deal of experience in the league, and would be excellent pickups for any championship contender. Additionally ESPN reported that free agent Norris Cole, former Heat and Pelicans point guard, should be ready to return to the court next week, and may be on Cleveland’s radar as well.

Regardless of who Cleveland signs, one thing is for sure after tonight, David Griffin works some kind of magic, and is an early front runner for executive of the year. Stay with Cavs Nation for more updates on the Cavs Trade situation.

Man I forgot about the trade exception, I didnt know they were able to cut a few dollars by trading mike.

Hassan Whiteside (eye) will not play Friday
1727.jpg

Hassan Whiteside (eye) is listed as out for Friday's game vs. the Lakers.

This will be the fourth straight game Whiteside has missed. Willie Reed has started each of Miami's previous three contests in place of Whiteside, but has produced uneven results. The primary benefactor has been James Johnson. Over his last three games, Johnson is averaging a robust 18.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 3.3 three-pointers and 2.0 blocks. He is a very enticing DFS tournament play for Friday, especially with the Lakers propensity to go small.

Chris Paul (hamstring) probable for Friday

Coach Doc Rivers told reporters that Chris Paul will "most likely" play Friday night in Sacramento.

Paul has missed seven of the Clippers last eight games but has been trending in a positive direction and reportedly "looked great" in practice earlier this week. We have no word on whether or not Doc will have CP3 on a minutes limit, but assuming he is good to go, Paul will slide back into the starting lineup and bump Austin Rivers back to the bench. Raymond Felton will also see his minutes reduced as a result.

Rudy Gay (hip) says he will play Friday night

Rudy Gay (hip) says he will play Friday night vs. the Clippers.

Gay, who has missed 10 of the Kings last 11 games, is listed as questionable and we have not received official word from the team; however, Gay participated in shootaround on Friday and told reporters: "I'm going today, I'm a go." We don't yet know if there will be a minutes restriction in place, but he will likely slide back into the starting lineup if he can suit up. Matt Barnes, Anthony Tolliver and Garrett Temple will see their minutes reduced with Gay back in the mix.

Steven A Smith is the biggest idiot on a network full of idiots.....

Heat have up until Jan. 15 to apply for the Disabled Player Exception with the Winslow injury. DPE would be roughly $1.3m.

We get that 8th spot, realistically they win but don't sweep us BUT.........you never know. That's later anyway. Gotta worry about overtaking Portland for that last spot for now.
You may or may not get the 8th; its a possibility but not a strong one; but I was say whomever gets the 8th has no shot, none; but I do like the support you show your teams no matter what...

DeMar DeRozan is one game shy (16) of tying his single season high of 30+ point games in a season (2013-14).

With tonight's @dallasmavs victory, Dirk Nowitzki has passed Derek Fisher for sixth place on the #NBA's all-time win list (853). #MFFL

The Atlanta Hawks are holding Paul Millsap trade discussions with a number of teams.

Millsap can become a free agent this offseason.

The Sacramento Kings are "very interested" in Millsap, while the Toronto Raptors, Denver Nuggets and Philadelphia 76ers have also shown interest.

The Hawks agreed to trade Kyle Korver this week to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Bro, tell me why the Kings, 76ers, and Nuggets are interested in Millsap :smh:

A few days ago I said the 76ers folks was laughing...

Just like when I type that they went hard after Manu and JR.

They want a few vets on that squad. We might not thinking highly of current players but we ain't GMs

These GMs are idiots flat out; He doesnt help the sixers in any way because he would be leaving in 3 months; If they wanted vets they should have went out and signed some; its ridiculous and hilarious....

so you as a GM, is going to give up valuable assets for a player who doesnt help your team other than hes a vet??

Korver was a VERY NICE add.

Think about LBJ dominating the paint. No one is really stopping him down there. And if they do decide to throw an extra player at LBJ in the paint....he'll have Korver lurking around the ring waiting to shoot a high percentage 3 pointer.

People were quick to say GS was the for sure champ this year because of the Durant addition...but I dont know. If Love stays consistent/healthy...and LBJ & Irvin do what they do.....Cavs with be two time champs....imho. But we'll see.

We have a easy schedule before the AllStar break hits. This will be a good time for my Bulls to build some momentum after the sluggish last 2 weeks.

I dont know what the plan is with Rondo. They should use him to balance out our inconsistent bench rotation......but for some reason theyve benched him completely.

All this shit happened before the 1 quarter of the season ended. Funny how Gar and Pax saw something in him during the off season, but less than 4 months into the season what they saw somehow magically disappeared.

Imho....it aint all on Rondo this time. Our front office has issues.

I respect your opinion bro; but are you saying that because they added korver??

I always thought the champ was gonna be either GS or the Cavs ( no diss to the Rockets, Spurs, Celtics, Raptors etc).

I think Korver gives the Cavs something "EXTRA" that they didnt have last year. IF the Cavs dont have to depend solely on Irving and LBJ, because Love continues to play the way that he's playing right now, and Korver does what he does, and Tristan, J.R. etc can play their roles accordingly.....then yes....I think the Korver addition gives them a nice bump and increases their chances to repeat.

If Durant and Steph can find a way to gets their at the same time...their chances increase as well.

Im not trying to make it seem like the move is equal to the move GS did with Durant. Durant > Korver. But adding Korver does gives the Cavs something valuable.

Gotcha...but let me ask you this; what lineup is Korver going to play with against GS and who does he guard?? I dont think it makes any sense to play him against GS for long periods of time; and what I mean by long is anything over 5 mins; Cavs dont use Kyrie to guard Curry whatsoever, so that means Jefferson or Shump or Smith has to be on the floor the majority of mins; so how does Korver get on the floor???

You been kinder and gentler ever since the Cubs won the series, so what can we expect from you if the Bears win, Chitowntreehugerhippy maybe?

Lets be honest and logical for a sec; we are both GMs; how does Paul help our 9-24 team knowing that hes not going to resign; and we have to give up a decent amount of assets to have him for 3 months; what will he possible teach our young players that would be worth the assets we will be giving up for 3 months??

Ok, I've talked to Paul and he's open to resigning if we're willingly to offer him a max deal.
