; just like they both wouldnt do 150 mill together; and the comic book movie is dried up, even do strange did great numbers; and the guardians teaser trailer was the 2nd most watch movie trailer ever!!!!!!; your analysis seems to be spot on...................time has told; Ant Man, Capt, Guardians, Strange, Avengers were all successful and good/great movies; Spidey coming, Thor coming, and Guardians 2 coming; Marvel movies aint slowing down anytime soon......

Lets not create shit and say shit for the sake of saying shit; The movie production budget was 165mill; In hollywood they say multiply by 2 to get the true movie cost, give or take; so that would make it 330 mill for movie cost; it made as of right now 635 mill; that almost double the cost; sounds like a win to me; and that doesnt include any merchandising sales, tv and cable sales, dvd sales, etc etc; oh and it also doesnt include Argentina........so I would say its more than a success; On top of that, the overwhelming majority of people like/love that, as well as the critics; which means they(marvel) can continue to make more strange movies and it will grow in its success.....

was looking for this thread like a week ago after finally seeing it.. this mite be my 2nd fave film of the marvel universe..first of course will always be winter soldier.. funny that both movies pretty much were diff from all of marvel movies and both could be their own stand alone movies
I was tryna find the thread where you said it was more than just a comic book movie cuz it truly was...visually many parts of it was like inception on steroids and many aspects of the story reminded me of the matrix...great fucking movie...it's crazy how marvel "sleeper" flicks like guardians ant man and strange are killing it...I've been chastising folks for "unfairly" comparing DC films to marvel all the time lately but fuck...it's really disappointing how marvel is hitting home runs w/ 'B' and 'C' level characters and DC is putting out adequate films w/ their top tier characters doing collabos
exactly..they taking the bench squad and making them into champs meanwhile dc losing with their hall of fame squad.. im not a dc or marvel head i juss like good movies..i've shitted on marvel flicks as well but rite now in the past few yrs the best of the two rite now has come from marvel..i wanted suicide to be good hell i was hoping for a watchmen type flick and like i said in a few threads i have yet to finish watching that flick cause i was so disappointed in the first hr of seeing it..1 day i'll attempt to re-watch it.. off the record another flick i was disappointed in was that movie "passengers" man they make it look like it's 1 thing in the trailers and that movie def was completely diff when u watch it..not to spoil the flick but it's basically a love story in space..that is all i have to say..smh at that shit
I agree but because i keep falling asleep on Guardians and I don't really know a lot about them, I'm going to put Doctor Strange in my top 5..
Here's how mine in no particular order:
1. Iron Man - this movie was great with effects but not TOO many effects. my ultimate goal is to have a house JUST like tony's..maybe not as large but with all the little gizmos and everything. opened my mind to whats possible..jmo
2. Winter Soldier. - IMO its neck and neck with Dark Knight for best comic book movie of all time. Love this movie and can watch it at anytime
3. Avengers - Great movie and i thought it spread the time across all the team members equally even though clint was drugged most of the movie...
4. Civil War - Movie was jumping off point for the next phase and introduction of Black Panther...Wish the fight between him and winter soldier was longer
5. Doctor Strange - Iron Man with Magic...i thought the same thing but it still stands on its own as its OWN movie...plus i thought Dormamu(sp?) was a better villian than Obadiah Stane..
i swear my opinion differs from the majority but i personally like batman begins more than i liked dark knight.. joker was that dude but as i tell everybody when he's literally not on the screen that movie really is juss ehhh.. batman begins to me had the better story and literally got me interested in batman again after yrs of getting destroyed by shit like mr freeze

I can't remember if I commented on this thread but I decided to rewatch Doctor strange once I saw it on Netflix.
1. It is in my top five Marvel movies the shit is amazing.

People always say that Marvel has a Villian problem and for a large part they do, but I'll say that Doctor Strange maybe one of the best Villian origin stories that I've seen in awhile. watching Karl Mordo's issues with everything that he knew and finding out that it was a lie... sets him up as Marvel's first organically created Villian. Loki is still the best but he started out as a Villian. Loki works because deep down you know that he really sees Thor as a brother.
But there was nothing about this film that made you feel that Mordo would be a Villian. But it works...

Thanks to the ever-expanding nature of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, those in charge of the universe have been blessed with an abundance of riches. They've relied heavily on the original Avengers for three phases, but also introduced new leads to take their place in Phase 4 and beyond. One of them should be Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, but Marvel is being cagey on the character's future.
After a stellar debut with Doctor Strange, he had a brief cameo in Thor: Ragnarok, and then was prominently featured in Avengers: Infinity War. Despite the reception to Cumberbatch, though, there hasn't been any news on a sequel. It has long been expected that director Scott Derrickson will return to the franchise if a sequel happens, but that's about it. Everyone's been left in the dark about the future so far, but Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige assures a proper sequel is on the way.

While speaking to CinemaBlend about the future of the MCU, Feige was asked about balancing the slate with so many franchises. Feige explained that it all comes back to scheduling, noting that potentially long gaps between sequels can sometimes be the norm. But, the wait also gives the leads chances at additional appearances in other films, a la Strange's recent films. Make no mistake though, Doctor Strange 2 is something they are planning.
"Sometimes it's where do those characters pop up? [Doctor] Strange, you know, whenever we do another Strange one, which we will do, it will be a number of years from the first Strange, and yet he's a very big part of [Avengers:] Infinity War. So it is just a good problem to have when you have too many beloved characters that people want to see more of, whilst keeping to our core belief that we need to keep exploring nuance and keep doing different types of things."
Considering how well-received Cumberbatch has been as Strange, it is great to see Feige sneak in the plan to give him a sequel in this answer. Not too long ago, Cumberbatch said there was no word on a Doctor Strange sequel, so maybe something has changed. He was arguably the best character in Infinity War, after all, so bringing him back as a leading man would likely result in box office returns that surpass the original's $677 million worldwide gross.
Based on Feige's phrasing, this all but confirms that Strange will also be among those who "died" in Infinity War who make it out alive by the end of Avengers 4. Regardless, we can all start to firmly put Doctor Strange 2 in the MCU's future, it just remains to be seen how soon. WATCH: Doctor Strange 2: Everything You Need To Know
With so many actors eager to get their hands on a coveted role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it might come as a surprise to hear that some stars have decided not to join it when they had an opportunity.
One actor who turned down a role in the MCU is Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain, but it turns out that she had a very valid reason for doing so – and it gives us hope that we might still see her playing a Marvel superhero in the future.
Doctor Strange writer C. Robert Cargill revealed on Stitcher's Junkfood Cinema podcast that Chastain was initially offered the role of Doctor Christine Palmer in the 2016 movie, which starred Benedict Cumberbatch as the title character.

She decided to turn it down not because she didn't want to join the MCU, but because she wanted a more significant role in it.
"She's like, 'Hey, look, this project sounds awesome, and I would love to do it. But I'm only going to get one shot at being in a Marvel film and becoming a Marvel character; and I trained in ballet, and I really want to wear a cape'," Cargill explained.

Rather than playing Doctor Palmer, who was instead brought to life by Rachel McAdams, Chastain chose to appear in a different superhero movie, 2019's X Men: Dark Phoenix, as the leader of a group of shape-shifting aliens who manipulate Jean Grey / Phoenix.

Although she didn't get to wear a cape in that movie either she did rock a fancy long coat – and the good news is the door is still open for her to return and maybe even become a part of the MCU if the X-Men, as has been speculated, join the Marvel family.
Now that the big Disney-Fox merger deal is all done and dusted, fans have been eagerly waiting for news of how the mutants could be integrated into the MCU – but no official news has yet been released, and Marvel boss Kevin Feige has previously warned it could take "a very long time".
But of course that hasn't stopped fans from speculating and coming up with their own ingenious theories – one of which suggests that the universes are already connected.
The Doctor Strange sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, is currently due to be released on May 7, 2021.

The move puts Cumberbatch in the mentor role that was previously occupied by Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark and Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury.
The good and strange doctor has been caught in the spider’s web.
Benedict Cumberbatch is putting on the cloak of levitation and will reprise Marvel supernatural hero Doctor Strange for the latest Spider-Man movie installment, starring Tom Holland and being made by Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures.
The move puts Cumberbatch in the mentor role that was previously occupied by Robert Downey Jr., who played Tony Stark/Iron Man in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and by Samuel L. Jackson in Spider-Man: Far From Home, the latter reprising Nick Fury. The role gives Holland a chance to play opposite seasoned actors, gives Peter Parker a father figure and gives the movies extra star power while also tying them to the greater Marvel Cinematic Universe.
This Spider-Man project already has some unexpected ties going for it as it is bringing back Jamie Foxx as Electro, the actor-character combo last seen in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which featured Andrew Garfield as the web-slinging hero.
Having Strange as part of Spider-Man may help explain the returning Electro. Cumberbatch is about to begin shooting Doctor Strange sequel Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, which will explore alternate realities and some speculate therein lies the cross-section.
Spider-Man 3 is due to begin shooting in Atlanta later in October while Multiverse of Madness is also due to begin shooting this month, although in London. It is unclear when and where Cumberbatch will shoot his scenes.
Marvel and Sony had no comment.
Jon Watts, the filmmaker behind Homecoming and last year's Spider-Man: Far From Home, is in the director's chair for the third installment, which Sony has dated for Dec. 17, 2021, although moviegoers have now come to expect release dates to change thanks to the pandemic.
Most of the supporting cast from the previous movies – Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Tony Revolori and Jacob Batalon — are expected to be on the call sheet when cameras roll in Atlanta.
Cumberbatch and Holland memorably first met up as Strange and Spider-Man in Avengers: Infinity War.
Cumberbatch is repped by UTA, UK's Conway van Gelder and Sloane Offer.

When casting was first announced for 2016's Doctor Strange, one choice immediately sparked controversy: casting Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One. In the comics, the sorcerer was always depicted as an Asian man, and the news that Swinton, a white actress, would be tackling the role raised eyebrows — especially in light of Hollywood's long, ugly history of perpetuating harmful Asian stereotypes and whitewashing Asian characters.
At the time, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson defended Swinton's casting as an attempt to avoid racist Asian stereotypes. But now, in a new interview with Men's Health, Feige admits that Marvel made a mistake.
"We thought we were being so smart and so cutting-edge," Feige told the magazine. "We're not going to do the cliché of the wizened old wise Asian man. But it was a wake-up call to say, 'Well, wait a minute, is there any other way to figure it out? Is there any other way to both not fall into the cliché and cast an Asian actor?' And the answer to that, of course, is yes."
Back in 2016, Derrickson said he deliberately cast Swinton as an attempt to "subvert racial stereotypes and to create the best possible diversity within the cast." At the time, Marvel released a statement addressing the controversy: "Marvel has a very strong record of diversity in its casting of films and regularly departs from stereotypes and source material to bring its [Marvel Cinematic Universe] to life. The Ancient One is a title that is not exclusively held by any one character, but rather a moniker passed down through time, and in this particular film the embodiment is Celtic."
Feige's admission comes as Marvel is a few months away from releasing Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, its first film with an Asian superhero protagonist. Chinese Canadian actor Simu Liu plays the hero Shang-Chi, and the film will hit theaters Sept. 3.
