Netflix: Luke Cage Season 2 (Discussion Thread) - Spoilers Approved (Update Cancelled!!)

Almost at the end.... I'm loving how this show is almost exclusively us. I don't think I've seen this many minorities on a tv series in my life and definitely the most for a sci-fi/superhero series

I am so proud of everyone involved in this show...

Again this Atlanta and Power

Aren't great because they are black shows.

They are great shows specifically because of their BLACKNESS.

Bulletproof love

I hope ya'll got the Shakespeare references...

Othello, Macbeth, King Lear, Hamlet...

The imagery of the bloody hands

Crowns and thrones

Sins of the father, family curses, lineage

Lies

Redemption

Indecision causes death

Loyalty

The constant reference of the importance of your NAME....

Is it me, or does this series go overboard with the NAME DROPS? I can understand for deposition and I thought it would be over by the first episode but here I am at episode 7 and they're still dropping names.. I mean WHO the HELL puts BIG L and ASAP ROCKY in the same sentence?

I hope Alfrie Woodard's role as the villain lasts longer than it did on The Last Ship.
The Last Ship was the ship.

In episode 4, the prison psychiatrist calls Luke Cage "Carl". What is the deal behind that? I haven't read the comic books

Watch the rest of the show.
Alright then, I just got Carl Lucas.

Second question, what does the wire have to do with the show? Is it the same directors, the same producers? I've seen Kima Greggs, Butchy, Levy the Lawyer, and I think there's one more

What is the connection the wire has to this show?

There's no direct connection to The Wire, however The Wire is "our show". Even though white people jumped on the bandwagon to say how great The Wire is, it's a well written show with predominantly black characters and stands out because of it. I think the Luke Cage writers/producers realize that if they can make this series a classic its going to stand out in the comic book genre the same way The Wire stands out in the drama genre.

i agree, Big L and ASAP should not be mentioned in the same breath. But the show is also paying homage to people from Harlem. The name dropping was actually pretty cool, because it fit in well with the discussions.

no connection, and don't forget about Meth. He was also in the Wire. Meth and Squabbles were also in Oz. I think there was someone else from Oz that was in this too, but it was probably early on in the show and i forgot.

I'm confused....so this is his story after meeting Jessica Jone???? How did he own that bar that if he's working two jobs what am I missing....Gottdammit I gotta go rewatch jessica Jones now....

I assumed that those people were all from Harlem....

i have not read anything in this thread. i just wanted to chip in that this is a VERY well done show. no corner cutting. it has its own unique vibe and is well executed from the camera work, to the acting, to writing and the action.

i am like wow.

we really are living in the era of peak t.v.

on ep 6 now , shits good but a tad slow
I think that because it's already guarantee the season, the writers can take their time and flush out the true definition of the character Luke Cage. Network TV shows don't have that option, and TV shows that start slow often don't make the 6th episode

The show was good. I'm halfway through the fourth episode I think. I was up until almost 5 o'clock in the morning Saturday night

I also liked the change to Willis... they always grew up as boys but the added brother thing works better. The only issue is that if they were both from Georgia, what's the chance of them both being in Harlem at the same time.

But casting Old boy from Boardwalk Empire as Willis was genius.
