The Americans: The 2nd best espionage/spy show on TV

But her reactions are real.... Neither parent actually explained what they do on these missions and they never said they actually kill people. In fact I think Paige asked them this when she found out and they both told her no. Then to see you Mom not just kill someone, but to kill without emotions and violently. That would be alot to take it. I do love Elizabeth's response to her questions though. I also love how Paige just accepted her Moms answers and moved on like it didn't really phase her.

The problem that I foresee next year is that the centre is definitely going to make a play for Paige next season. Especially now that she knows. I wonder if Phillip and Elizabeth are putting this down in their reports. I know Phillip wouldn't, but Elizabeth would do this shit.

The only reason Philip and Elizabeth had kids was part of their cover. They lied to Paige her entire life. Why would't she start second-guessing them after discovering they're Russian spies? They're STILL feeding her lies and half-truths. It would be unrealistic to have her just get with the program. She's not stupid. In some ways, she has the defining traits of her parents: stubborn like Elizabeth and always questioning like Philip.

first off you can't pull out The Wire in ANY discussion...not fair

Deadwood is greatness and I would argue, Justified is the the direct result. so that is a wash.

But Not so fast

you can't be putting one and done series on there!!!

I gotta compare dates...

but you cannot deny the run FX been on and how FEW flops they had.

Ballers too new and isn't as groundbreaking

True Detective ESSENTIALLY was one and done...Hung got cancelled after what 2 maybe 3 seasons? so was Rome...and Newsroom didn't have a rabid loyal following...

the FX series were long running and genre defining and some of the BEST not just GOOD I mean the BEST series in modern TV.
:giggle: the Wire... it is what is - an HBO show
FX might be 2nd best for drama -AMC is coming for them though
quantity isn't a good way to argue quality - Thats like saying the original American Gothic on CBS sucked because it got canceled yr 1 - though in truth it was revolutionary. Or all of Lost or Smallville is genius stuff because of the length of their runs
Rescue Me was 04 to 2011 - Shield ended in 08 so I had bracketed by those years... Wire & Sopranos ended in 07
Apples to apples- Sopranos , Wire, Rome & Deadwood - own all dramas not named Breaking Bad (AMC)
Rome's production (and Deadwood's by extension) was too expensive to continue in-spite of high ratings, but it paved the way for us to get Game of Thrones and hopefully Westworld

Whoever told u Smallville was genius...

You need to stop talking to them immediately

Word to Pete.

Exactly.... Which is why I've grown to really like her character. She is probably one of the few kid characters on a show that I've generally grown to love.

I'm watching the latest episode now...

Ain't gonna be no Paige caping on my watch...

I understand exactly what the writer's are doing and it's brillant...

Almost as good as Skylar on Breaking Bad...

But please don't forget ms. Christ the redeemer sheltered innocent church goer?

First season, almost got raped and murdered when she took her baby brother and hitchhiked...

It was HENRY who saved the day.

Paige been weak.

you got a point - I could see them telling Henry and after he understands it - he starts acting like -"so, who we got to kill first?"

I love the actress the writing the arc the development but damn it Paige gives me migraines...

It is perfect for the character but I can't relate to that in my personal family circle there is/was a loyalty and respect for our parents...a faith.

Her doubt in them and complete faith in the church is fascinating and frustrating at the same time.

You Might Want to Check Your DVR If You’re Recording The Americans Tonight
Due to what appears to be a database entry listing error, DirecTV and Tivo-branded DVRs — and very likely DVRs used by many other cable and satellite companies — were tricked into thinking an infomercial FX aired in the wee hours Wednesday morning was actually tonight’s Americans episode.

As a result, if you have your DVR set to record all first-run episodes of the show — and only first-run episodes — there’s a good chance your DVR is currently scheduled to skip recording tonight’s finale (since it believes it’s already recorded the show).

If you’re reading this before 10 p.m. EST, it’s not too late to avoid catastrophe: Go to your TV’s program guide and check to see if the episode is still set to record tonight. If it’s not, simply set up a manual recording, and you should be fine. (Also, tonight’s episode is scheduled to run long, so maybe add a few minutes to the recording.)

Meanwhile, don’t blame FX for this mess-up.

While the network has ’fessed up when it’s made listings mistakes in the past, in this case, “We issued correct [program] listings,” a network spokesman told Vulture. “This is not a network issue. A major listings provider made an error.”

Or was it really Russian hackers working on behalf of former KGB agent Vladimir Putin? Hmmmm...

Interesting how they are showing the sheer incompetentence of both countries

The Russians trying to recruit Gad.
The Americans following the chemist and causing a potential outbreak

I've read spy novels, watched 2.5 hour London thrillers and documentaries and every spy series on tv & cable...

I have never been so damn invested and on the edge of my seat like this...

Ever.

Spy tears are the hardest tears there is.
Ol boy hung on as long as he could without saying shit then got delirious sucks we have to wait a year to see what he did or didn't say.
Hilarious polar opposite reactions. The father is happy his son is getting some. The other father is mortified his daughter is giving it up. lmao.
His son is coming to America to see dad. If he finds him the jig is all the way up. He ain't got no training no nothing. He coming in fresh off the boat with the thick accent and everything. They really going to have to move back to Russia if he finds him

it'll really be a big problem if Paige gets seeded up by him..

damn Paige has really been a tragic figure this season as she tries to juggle her parent's secret & being a teenager. She has been feeling Matthew from the season premiere and hasnt done anything to cross the line (Kimmy a way bigger slut). Meanwhile Stan all about a Paige/Matthew wedding down the road (much easier to have a son than a daughter when shit like this happens). Rightfully so with the pressure own and not knowing if they've been blown Phillip wants her to keep his distance.

and Phil's son might blow this whole shit up. What happens if and when he finds Phil?

Man Phillips son just thinks his dad is a basic travel agent. So to him Phillip should have an accent. Dude doesn't know anything about the life. Watch dude show up to their house or randomly come to their office talking about I'm looking for Phillip Jennings with that thick accent. Hell does he even speak English. Man all it is going to take will be one slip up with this dude around Stan and its :itsawrap:.

Man this last season is going to be to damn much.

I no that I've been saying this since season 1 but Matthew Rhys continues to put on a acting clinic on this show. There were two scenes that really stood out to me. One was where he was at the Etsy(??) meeting. That scene felt like Phillip getting the opportunity to finally open up about how much he hates what he does now. It's clear that Phillip is showing signs of depression. That scene was just amazing.

The other scene was fucking the truth and he barely said anything. That scene was when he went to get Paige and Stan told him about catching the two of them. Look at Phillips eyes even before Stan makes the joke about Phillip paying for the wedding. He was pissed but he couldn't show that he was, but at the same time Matthew Rhys was able to somehow convey dread and disappointment because he knew right in that instant that Paige was just like her mom. And with all that... He still had to convey the regular shocked father look to Stan to keep from standing out.

It might be true that Paige likes Matthew but she is really doing this to turn Matthew into an informant. So she will be able to keeps tabs on what Henry says to Stan. The show kind of gave that away in the "previously on" section. This is the thing that Phillip has feared since the Centre brought up their interest in the kids. He doesn't want either of the kids in the life and that's why he was so pissed off at her.

The fucking show is amazing. It is one of the few shows that I'm going to immediately binge through the the entire series when it is over.... Just so I can see how one of the greatest shows on tv created this world. The only thing killing this show is that it came out the same time that Mad Men and Game of Thrones came on and it will never have a shot at winning the best drama Emmy..... And that's not including the fact that FX drops shit like freaking Fargo.. So it's going to be tough for any one to get an Emmy.
