Can you cast a video from iPad to the shield tv like a chromecast,
I might replace my Apple TV with the shield but I use AirPlay a lot

built a media center pc for streaming...firesticks n such don't get enough power and/or processing capability to always buffer streams properly

all i stream is hd & my firestick never buffers

Computer with HDMI cable. I been doing this since 2002 with my old crt. I prefer to download instead of stream but people I hook up I turn them on to streaming. I guess in a way im "old fashioned" like that.

This. I just download whatever I want still. Better quality, less hassle. I have a generic Android box with Kodi for free ppv and shit. But any movie or show I want that I don't already get on cable, I just dl it.
likewise but I download nothing anymore way too many sites streaming Movies and TV shows to download these days plus i only have internet no cable tv of any kind there isn't a show i cant find or stream from somewhere on the net from asian, german, italian, french, british, canadian and u.s. based shows. all in my browser no kodi or showbox just need good adblockers and anti malware
wife and kids all their own setups and do as they please.

If you a downloader look in to plex , here's how it works

Let's say you have a 1tb drive full of movies and tv shows

You install plex server on your computer , the program runs in the background
Plex lets you watch your movies on the phone/tablet/tv
You can get plex on anything from roku to chromecast

Now tell your family brother/sister whatever to create a free plex account , they send you the username , you add them as friends
Now they can stream your movies on your HARDRIVE from anywhere different states , don't matter

All this is free

Plex automatically adds cover & movie info and plays any file format
You add a movie to the plex folder and it appears on the plex app right away

I have a couple of roku's and plex (classic none of my tv's are hd) but I am doing something wrong my ip never shows up as accessible in the media center. I keep hearing about kodi, but I haven't taken the time to look into it.

Firesticks are well known for buffer issues due to processing speed, and for them not getting enough power.

Plus no 4k playback capability, only 2 channel stereo sound, and no memory

Why?

Android Box (MxQ). Got 2 of them. Also have Kodi on my PC and iMac and on my phone and tablet. Not to mention my 2 smart TV's.

Chromecast used to be my go to but it's does not work to well outside the country so now I got the Roku stick

*edit*

here's your answer benq...

SHIELD has Google Cast built-in, so you can cast your favorite entertainment from your personal device on to the big screen*. Cast from your Android phone or tablet, iPhone, iPad, Mac or Windows laptop, or Chromebook. Use your mobile device to play, pause, rewind, control volume, make playlists, and more. Find Cast Ready apps at g.co/castapps.

How-to cast
Step 1. Connect your phone or tablet to the same Wi-Fi network as your SHIELD.
Step 2. Open a Cast-Ready app like Netflix or YouTube on your mobile device.
Step 3. Tap the cast button and enjoy.

*Casting optimized for selected services only. Streaming quality for other content might vary. Supported operating systems and devices: Android 2.3 and higher, iOS® 7 and higher, Windows® 7 and higher, Mac OS® 10.7 and higher, and Chrome OS (version 38 or higher).

I'm with you on the downloading!!! How ever I've been using the WDTV Live streaming player. I have 4 of them connected to my home network, I also have the WD My Cloud Ex4. It gives me all of the capabilities of viewing all my content ANYWHERE. It's also free and I can add and delete users as I please or add and delete content from anywhere as I please!!! And this is all free as well!!!

So how does let's say your cousin gets to watch your movies ?
The point of plex is that is simple , the users you add don't do any "computer" work

And does it look as nice as plex on the wdtv live ?
