When their NY isn't the same as yours

Accurate! Lol.

What NYkers consider upstate behooves me. Parts of "Upstate" is still downstate considering the large size of NY state.

I was in the Hudson Valley and motherfuckers don't lock their doors. At least in the lil rural suburb I was in.
thats most of the state... there are a lot of GREAT towns upstate especially along the Delaware River and the Hudson
I like it better than Penn but Pa is just cheaper... so one day I'm heading there or Va Maryland Carolinas or Ga to live

They are... except:
Albany Rochester Newburgh are GHETTO, IMO worse than any hood in NYC including ENY and Brownsville but not as bad as hell on earth Irvington NJ and Camden NJ
Syracuse Dunkirk Binghamton Montecello Buff are just hood
I know Newburg has a super high crime rate, mostly theft if I'm not mistaken. I was up there for a few weeks last summer, seems like an easy place to catch an L. Honestly It seemed like a joke coming straight from Baltimore, but the small town vibe could make someone let their guard down, and we all know what happens when cats do that. Get caught slippin!

Newburg is bad because of its ex con population right? What's that big jail up there?

Cost of living here in the DMV is worst than NYC in some places. Central Pa is cheap because of 3mile island and various other toxic plants. :smh: Va or parts of NC are still easy to live in. I heard Charlotte is getting pricey tho. ATL is twice or three times as expensive as it was when I first moved there. Still cheap places not so much intown or around the perimeter tho. At least I was told.

The towns on the east side of the Hudson seem to be nicer. I thought Beacon was pretty chill.

Yeah Crooklyn all day right here, went to PS 92 too and IS 61, then Philippa Schuyler and Brooklyn Tech.

Lived up in Bing after high school for about 1-2 yrs slinging some thangs and nuccas would always say I'm from NY and would be like they from Newburgh or some crazy shit, nuccas would be like really, FOH.

It's so true, dudes never say they are from NYC, just their boro, Brooklyn was it's own damn continent. People not from there just don't understand...

And to who said that McD's is 35 years old, yeah fuck you, think you're right, I remember it being built... Dammit, lol
One of Busta dudes still lives on that block off Clarendon right where McDonald's is. My boy is his neighbor.

Before gentrification went nuclear BK was indeed the Planet. I understood after a few months, honestly it was the only place I felt completely at home as a Blackman in all my travels stateside. Literally the entire black diaspora at your fingertips.

East has the good rep IMO because of proximity to Conn but I like Kingston and New Paltz too

Yeah when I last looked I was seeing some nice areas in rural Maryland away from DC, and a lot in Va, if I did Ga it would be about 45 minutes outside of Atl maybe west or northeast or if I'm lucky closer to Savannah

Gangs drugs and murder... Newburgh is one of the places some of NYC poor have been pushed and yeah there are a bunch of prisons in the area and the whole area has never recovered from losing so many resorts in 70s and 80s

How many of you mofo's remember TSS, and when your mama wanted to buy you a new suit she took you to A&S to get you the most flammable polyester her money could buy, lol!
shit - I could tell you the Nassau Queens and Brooklyn locations for both
man those days most stores were closed on Sunday and all shutdown on Thankgiving and XMas

Shit.. I spent a few years on Washington and Gates as a Shorty too before my family moved back in Whitman to save for a house. Graduated from P.S 20 on Adelphi before taking my ass to Bushwick to Philipa Schuyler. Still remember seeing Biggie driving around in his red truck and Chubb Rock used to school us whenever we saw him. Also used to run into the Boot Camp alot (Steele and Ruck mostly). Spike Lee, Rosie Perez, Doug E Doug, Maxwell I used to see pretty normaly too. Crazy when I think about it.

But yeah, that Area been gentrified for a decades. The only bullshit that was happening was on Fulton.

How can I forget New Paultz. I thought about moving there with my now ex girl. Groovy lil hippie town. Yeah east is nice because of the metro north rail as well. Never made it to the Catskills, might check it out next time.

My homegirl from ATL moved to Savannah and turned her life around. Went from being an alcoholic waitress to a Ph.D. Grad! She speaks very highly of it. Not as many distractions and drama as ATL.

There's a FB page many of my class mates kicked off, years back, quite a few notable peeps went there like Nicki Minaj and I think Mos Def. I was there same grade with Milk of Audio Two, then he went on to Brooklyn Tech same time.

Had a coworker move from Jacksonville Florida to Washington and Gates back in the early to mid 90's. She used to call her mother crying about how ghetto the neighborhood was. She lived there 10 yrs and moved out but made a huge profit on her place cause gentrification was just starting to happen. She moved to DeKalb and Classon and bought in that area about 10 yrs ago. Her place I worth crazy money right now. One bedroom apartments in her building going for $900k.

Yup. Sounds about right

Do any of you ol heads from Brooklyn got any stories of know anything about the Lowlifes?

When I was like 10 my uncle and older cousins lived in Bay Ridge but my cousin use to hoop at Sunset Park rec center.

One time my cousin took me to watch him and his friend play ball and I remember he was wearing a basic ass Polo shirt over his beater.

At the park he was talking to some girls waiting for a game when out of nowhere 20 niggas ran up on him and made him take off his shirt and I think ran his pockets.

We ran home and those same niggas found my uncles house. My aunt had a butcher knife lol but one nigga was like "we don't mean no disrespect m'am but tell your boy not to play games he knows nothing about." Then they left.

Till this day he won't explain why that happened. I don't know if he was talking to a girl he wasn't supposed to or set tripping.

He was doing both

Man the part of Bay Ridge we lived at had LKs but they never were problems. My cousin wasn't no gangster or tough kid, he played ball and got bitches. I think he talked to the wrong bitch and got checked. So no niggas could wear Polos because the Lowlifes?

Sounds like a case of jealousy. One the lows probably was feeling the chick and used that as an opportunity to cock block on your fam but "punking" him (even tho is was a bitchmade move by them).

You could get got by anybody back in the day wearing some fly Polo, not just by the LL

I'm V4L..... Gunhill...

I know you know about the Section 5 Valley wars. RIP to all our brothers who lost it during my time.
I know you probably remember when Seton Ave & Murdock Ave aka Fort Docks used to go at it with Edenwald or when White Plains Rd used to be Jamaican drugs territory
