BGOL review .. BATMAN V SUPERMAN... (thoughts, summary, spoilers)

How did Lois know to go back and to get the spear?

Intros of other characters was horrible. But i am looking forward to their movies.

Was that supposed to be a future version of the Flash that visited Bruce?

Reading outside the movie... You find out that it was Flash, but if you just watched the movie.. You would have no idea.

I honestly didn't know who it was while I watching it and the movie... I told my boy that it couldn't have been the flash because dude was in a mechanical suit. I originally assumed that it was the Blue Beetle.

Also what the fuck is up with Batman no killing morality. He killed in the dream sequence. Why not have him use gadgets to disable the gunmen. They should have had him shaken up by his use of guns. Then he blew up the gunmen with the bat jet and during the chase for the kryptonite.

Also why did Lois know to go for the spear. She had no ideal that Dooms Day was there or even knowing his weakness.

Damn I didn't even think about that.... Do you mind if I add this my list of questions on this movie. That's a good point.

Really???

Are you seriously telling me that you read this entire thread... including the comments by myself and the others and you still want me to again point out the numerous "plot holes" with this movie.

Plot Hole--
A gap or inconsistency in a storyline that goes against the flow of logic established by the story's plot, or constitutes a blatant omission of relevant information regarding the plot. Such inconsistencies include such things as illogical or impossible events, and statements or events that contradict earlier events in the storyline.

To make it easier... I'm just going to point out the questions that I had from this movie. If you can answer then fine.

1. Why is Batman so damn stupid? Batman the greatest detective in the world allowed himself to be fooled by a dude that likes to stick Cherry jolly ranchers in other guys mouths, lick his fingers, and talk random shit about gods and monsters..

2. Why does everybody blame Superman for the massacre in Africa? Seriously... Everybody was killed with Bullets before he arrived. He pushed one dude through a wall and then they cut away to another scene. Everyone knows Superman isn't using guns and everybody knew that the Terrorist guy used a private security force. Then in the one scene where I finally hoped that he was going to explain WTF happened there. Lex blows up everybody. Come on now... Why were they using special bullets? Why was this classified? Lex was a private citizen. They were a private security force.

3. Why did it take 18 months for Batman to meet Superman? The movie didn't say anything about Bruce retiring after the Battle with Zod. He was still doing his Batman thing, yet Superman never said to himself. Hey I am new to this hero thing. I hear there is a guy in Gotham that's a hero. Let me talk to him. Or Let's go with the Movie... It took him 18 months to notice that I probably need to talk to this Batman guy about what he is doing.

4. How is Superman able to find Lois Lane no matter where she is... right before she is about to die ALL THE TIME. Yet he couldn't hear his mom getting kidnapped.

5. How did Superman know that Bruce Wayne is Batman, yet Bruce didn't know Clark was Superman.... Come on.

6. Where in the World did Wonder Woman come from? Why was she in Metropolis? How did she know that Lex had a picture of her? Where did Lex get it from? Why is it significant?

7. Why is she living in Metropolis or Gotham (couldn't remember if they mentioned the specific town) in a Apartment? How long was she living there? Why did she decide to leave before the battle with Doomsday? Was it because Bruce gave her a digital copy of her photo? Wouldn't she know that Lex would still have copies on his main computer, since all Bruce did was copy his files? He didn't destroy them. Where was she going? Why did she abandon humanity? Is she immortal? Is she a meta-human? Why did she take the hard drive that she knew Bruce was looking for, get stumped on the encryption, and then just give it back to Bruce, when she knew that there was a chance that it had information on her? Did she know that he was batman when she did this? How would she know?

8. Where did she hide her Sword, shield, lasso, and outfit when she boarded Turkish Airlines? Did she go back home to put it on? If she revealed herself to fight Doomsday, why didn't she reveal herself when Superman was outnumbered and the world was about to end? Is she as strong as superman? Why is she able to block Doomsday's lazer eyes? What is the deal with the Lasso anyway? Answer this question using only the material found in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman. Don't talk about what you know from the comics. *Answer... You can't*

9. To follow that up, where in the hell was Batman during the Battle with Zod? In what universe would you have Batman sitting on the sidelines for this? You un-retire when the world is at stake? (I don't want to hear that "It was Superman's story and not his bullshit" .. you can't play that card when you have a team up in the next movie where he does join in to help Superman) Zod was a much bigger threat at the time then Doomsday was even in this movie.

10. What in the Hell was Lex's end game here? Did he think he was going to control Doomsday? If he set in motion the Superman v. Batman battle before he had access to the ship... did he just hope that Batman was going to kill Superman and then he just created Doomsday as a fall back? Then what???? Was Superman in his way of accomplishing something? I don't know, because the movie never said it.

11. Why did Lex blow up Mercy?

12. Why does Lex have a hard drive full of meta humans? What is the Meta human thesis? Why is he so obsessed with them? Why did he give them individual symbols? Why were there only 4 colored folders? Are they the only meta humans on the Planet? Why didn't Clark Kent/Superman have a folder? Why didn't he have a folder on Batman/Bruce Wayne... since it appeared that he didn't know whether Batman was a metahuman or not... based on this movie.

13. What are meta humans in this world... They weren't mentioned in Man of Steel? Does the government view them as a threat? Is Wonder Woman a metahuman? (As a fan I know, but as a movie goer... did the movie tell me)

14. Why was Wayne Manor empty and possibly burned? What happened there?

15. Why do Clark Kent and Lois Lane love each other? (stole this question from vox.com, but it is a good point)... Answer this question using only the material found in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman. Don't talk about their love story from the comics or from other Superman films. *Answer: You can't... they never talk about it.*

16. Why would Batman immediately become Superman's ally after hearing their mom's have the same first name? Was it because he saw that if Superman could have a mom then he is a man and not a god or was it because he saw that he had an opportunity to save Martha (i.e. his mom) this time when he failed to do it as a kid? I think the movie did make a reference to this with a line by Batman before he left to go rescue his mom.

17. Why was Batman willing to use a gun and kill people, yet he always had visions of his Parents getting killed by a Gun? Why did he have all these dreams? Did he have them all the time? Why was he having them? Was he just crazy?

18. What the fuck was going on in the Desert dream sequence? What was any of that about? Again... Answer this question using only the material found in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman. Don't talk about what you know from the comics or from other Superman films. *Answer: You can't....*

19. Was it a dream sequence, an actual event, or a premonition?.... Again... Answer this question using only the material found in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman. Don't talk about what you know from the comics or from other Superman films. *Again Answer: You can't....*

20. Who was that in the dream/event/premonition talking to Batman? Answer this question using only the material found in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman. Don't talk about what you know from the comics.

21. If Superman knew that he was walking into a trap with Batman, why didn't he just tell Batman that Lex Luther has his mom? He had several times to tell him. Even after he has hit with Kryptonite.

22. At what point did Lex find out that Clark Kent was Superman? Was it before he got on the ship or after? I don't remember the ship from Man of Steel having that type of information about Clark's family on it. Maybe it did. Let's say that it did. How would zod's fingerprints allow Lex to gain so much control over the ship that he is able to create his own username and password?

23. What is Batman's plan for getting Superman to fight him? (Again, stolen from vox.com, but another extremely good point) Seriously... He turns on the Batsignal and waits in a warehouse. Yes I know Clark said don't turn on the signal again or there will be trouble. But what is the fucking likelihood that Batman would set up this fight... THE EXACT same time that Lex kidnapped Superman's mom and gave him 30 minutes to kill the Bat. It's not like the movie showed that Lex was spying on Bruce and knew what he was planning and when it would happened. Lex just set in motion Bruce getting Kryptonite. Which by the way was a Stupid plan, because let's say... Batman did kill Superman. Well now Batman knows you were behind everything, because you basically told him by leaving all these obvious clues.

24. Why did Martha appear to be badly beaten with the words "Witch" written on her forehead in the photos shown to Clark, yet perfectly fine with minor damage (if you could call it that), but nothing was written on her head when Batman saved her? Did Lex use Photoshop? If so Why?

25. What was that in the Batcave? Was that a monument to Robin? Is there a Robin in this universe? Why was something written on it? Where did it come from? Who wrote that? Answer this question using only the material found in Man of Steel and Batman v Superman. Don't talk about what you know from the comics. *Answer: you can't*

26. How was the Ship able to give the Lex the secrets of the universe and create Doomsday if it only had 37% power. Wouldn't something like that take up way more then 30%? Did Lex connect the ship to the city's power? Is that why all the lights went out right before Doomsday was born? Again... no explanation.

27. Why was there a scene with Superman just randomly dragging a capsized ship in the Antarctic or North Pole by it's anchor chain? It was clearly empty. There was no one to save. Yet there he was... walking on frozen water, dragging a fucking ship behind him. If you can answer that question... then you truly are a God among us.

I could continue.

I'm not picking it apart to just pick it about... these are legitimate plot holes.

I already know some one is going to reply to this with the.... "OMG you are retarded" BS and continue to try to Defend this movie by breaking down my points. But the problem is that... You can't answer any of these questions from this movie or Man of Steel without using shit from outside the movie. And that ladies and gentlemen is what keeps this from being a good movie. I will give it some credit and say that it is Ok. Maybe I am being to harsh on it, but I expect better from DC. I don't care if they want a dark tone. I love the dark tone. I love the gritty nature. Hell I can be fine with Batman killing people. You just have to explain the shit. You can't use the Tyler Perry technique and just put some random scenes together and rely on the audience to come to their own conclusion. I'm hard on this movie... Just like I was hard on Transformers 2. I'm willing to take off my fanboy blinders and be critical of bullshit, because I know they can and should be better then this.
You just broke down damn near every plot hole in the movie. Kinda makes you feel that this film could have been split into two parts. Maybe they rushed it because Batman wasn't originally meant to be in the film. Someone was spit balling and threw out what if we have Batman in the film. So much unexplained shit came up during the film.

Reading outside the movie... You find out that it was Flash, but if you just watched the movie.. You would have no idea.

I honestly didn't know who it was while I watching it and the movie... I told my boy that it couldn't have been the flash because dude was in a mechanical suit. I originally assumed that it was the Blue Beetle.
it actually looked like Bunker. Maybe it was a Flashpoint set up.

Jesse seemed more like a pre-Joker than a Lex.

The whole flash drive issue was dumb too. They never explain how Lex knew everything he knew and how he got the information. How did he even get footage of Aquaman. And when the Flash was in the store, is Lex the only person with that footage? I assume since it was captured on camera, the owners of the store would have it too. Cyborg concept looked cool.

Nothing was left of Victor but his upper torso. Wish they would have used to capsule to sustain him on life support like in the animated movie. I feel like if I haven't seen the DC animated films I wouldn't know what the hell was going on.

Wish the solo Batman film was sooner than later. Affleck and Geoff Johns and their work cut out in writing a good script and Ben definitely will have do a better directing job than Snyder.

also, another reason it seemed rush and jumbled, this could be considered smart and corney, but they kind of gave us the introduction of the other characters, without having to explain much. and how many fucking times do we need to see Bruces parents get killed?

correct me if im wrong, but why was Wonder Woman photographed with men? I thought she was a from a place where they didnt associate with men.

i dont know if i can tolerate another solo batman movie. who is he going to fight? after this, who can really challenge him? some little psychotic human from earth?

Exactly....
If you didn't have a preexisting knowledge of the films... you would have no clue. Hell you still don't have a clue even if you do have a pre-existing knowledge of the film.

I guarantee that if this movie was about anyone other then Superman or Batmen like "The Phantom"... no one would be defending this. As a action movie.. the film is ok. As a world building superhero movie, it is a complete failure. The only thing that it did right was make me interested in Suicide Squad (new trailer) and Wonder Woman's new movies. I'm not interested in Justice League... Hell they are going have to spend a good chunk of the movie bringing Superman back. Let alone.... making the other characters believable individually.

They never mentioned it... AT ALL..

and come on, Bruce is the worlds best detective. I have yet to see a movie showcase that skill. He wants to find the others, he should be able to do it.

what the hell was Lex plan with everything he did and all the info he had?

i dont know if i can tolerate another solo batman movie. who is he going to fight? after this, who can really challenge him? some little psychotic human from earth?

If the defaced Robin Suit is Jason Todd, then they can use the Red Hood in a story line, hopefully they show the flashback of the Joker beating Todd with the crowbar in suicide squad.

when Bruce called the dude in the office (im surprised he still had service at that point) and told everyone to leave the building, why did he stay behind? why were the people standing around watching the buildings fall?

now that would be cool.

While the marketing campaign for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is ramping up in a big way (click here for Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill’s thoughts on Superman’s power advantage), Warner Bros. isn’t neglecting its other 2016 superhero film, Suicide Squad. The studio has unveiled a new image from director David Ayer’s film, which turns the focus on the baddies of the DC Cinematic Universe as a group of villains are enlisted by a government official—Amanda Waller, played by Viola Davis—to deal with a mysterious adversary. The film brings together characters lesser known to general audiences like Deadshot (Will Smith), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), and Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), but it also deals with iconography in the form of Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and, of course, Jared Leto’s new Joker.

For Ayer, who also wrote the film himself, playing with the bad guys offers the film a unique opportunity in the realm of superhero movies (via USA Today):

“We all need good guys and everything — yay, good guys — but at the end of the day, they’re kinda boring,” the Fury director says. “They’re always going to do the right thing. When you’re dealing with the baddies, it’s easy to get ahead of the audience and invert expectations.”

Image via Warner Bros.

He added that the Joker transcends good and evil, saying he’s “the king of Planet Joker”, but Ayer also got to play with another coveted character in the DC toybox: Ben Affleck’s Batman. We saw the character (played by a stunt double) on the streets of Toronto shooting scenes with the Batmobile, but Ayer reveals that during Affleck’s one day on set, he put the actor to work:

“We made him fight,” the director says with a laugh. “He’s awesome (as Batman). … You really sense that but for the grace of God he himself would be doing some really foul stuff out in the world.”

Affleck himself even weighed in on the movie and the fact that he’s part of this massive DC Cinematic Universe:

“It felt like I have such a cool cousin. This thing that is so awesome is somehow related to me, and that was really exciting because it started to feel like a constellation of things, and I’ve never had that feeling.”

Image via Warner Bros.

Finally, Ayer added that while making Suicide Squad, the fact that he was working within a larger cinematic universe never escaped him:

“For me, it’s a little more than just dropping a cut scene in the end credits to link projects. You really have to be thinking three movies downrange and how today’s movie will impact more later-cycle projects.”

In short, expect some major connective tissue between Suicide Squad and the rest of the DC Universe when the film hits theaters on August 5th. Check out the new image, via USA Today, below

That would require DC to have some sort of plan for this shit. Which they apparently don't.
You guys continue to pull shit out your ass that makes no sense and is contrary to everything we have seen thus far. Have problems with the writing, pacing, editing, theme of BvS, thats fine, but to assert they have no plan is fucking retarded. They clearly have a plan in place, complete with universe, schedule, and storylines and charcters to boot. Half of the shit in BvS that appeared to be unexplained and disjointed blurbs are evidence of a later reveal and part of an already existing storyline they have in place.

Cut the bullshit.

Ok. I saw it. I loved it.

As i said before going in, the negative reviews seem directed at the dark backdrop of the film, and that was something that i prefer in my comic films. One of the reasons i think the XMen franchise is such trash is because it leans far too cheesy and borderline cartoonish (along with horrible casting and writing). This movie is the opposite of that. It attempts- and largely succeeds- to bring super hero characters into our world as opposed to bringing the audience to theirs. The result is a drama heavy, storied, and some what dark film that some people will take issue with. Personally, i loved that shit. Also loved how they littered the film with real life news, media personalities to push that notion forward.

Batman:

Affleck pulled it off. Biggest criticism ive seen is about his dream sequences. I had ZERO issue with them. This is an old, jaded, battered, bitter Batman haunted by countless demons. His night terrors helped to hammer that home greatly imo. This muthafucka is depressed, and filled with anger and regret.. and he directs most of it at Superman. His fight scenes were great. Easily the best of ANY big screen Batman ever. Going in i thought Ben would struggle pulling off Bruce Wayne more than Batman but he did a very decent job there too. This was assisted by limited screentime as that character (limited in his social interactions with others outside of two party scenes). Also here a few complaining about Batman using guns... I kinda agree there. His gun usage consisted of a kyrptonite gas grenade launcher and redirecting guns in the hands of henchmen at other henchmen during one fight scene... Not overdone but i can see some not liking that. Thats just something i chalk up to an attempt to put a real life spin on the character.

Superman:
Its hard to make this boring muthafucka interesting but they did a decent enough job... i guess. He was the same guy from MOS

Lex:
Horrible. The biggest problem with this Lex is it wasnt Lex. If we had no reference point to the character then it would have been fine. But the moment they told us this was Lex Luther it failed miserably. Again, i chalk this to an attempt at give the film a real world modern interpretation. This is the face of the new billionaire tycoon. But it aint Lex Luther.

Wonder Women:
Pleasantly surprised. Much better than i anticipated. She had limited lines and screentime but she did a decent enough job pulling the role off.

Film itself:
Again, i enjoyed it alot. There was a slight pacing issue where it was rushed during BvS conflict and Bats came around to helping Supes and his moms. The Justice League characters reveal was also a bit cheesy and seemed like something we would see on an episode of Arrow.

Overall its a very good film imo... Top 5 comic flick in my ratings. Looking forward to the R rated blu-ray.
Pretty spot on with my assessment of the movie.

but the plan sucks. they just throwing shit together last minute, and not even explaining it. Their tv shows and anime are better than the damn movies. The tv shows do a better job of introducing and explaining characters. Yeah its two separate universes, but they need to follow the same model. Look how well they developed the characters on Flash and even the introduction of Mr. Terrific. Now compare that to how they just introduced WW, Aquaman, Flash and Cyborg. Now how long do we have to wait to see their movies.

They need to swallow their pride and follow the popular format. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, those characters can now show up in a marvel movie without any explanation. Meanwhile, when flash, cryborg and aquaman show up two years from now, we have to get their origins from scratch, which could cover two movies per hero. Its just silly. Their creative team sucks. Now superman is dead....ok, that does open the door for a Supergirl introduction, but guess, what, although she is already in tv, they now have to explain her movie origin. DC should have started this 5 years ago.

Ain't watch it yet, will tonight. Just dropped the CAM version in the Hollywood section for cats like me who refuse to pay.

for the next movie, i hope they dont go with the idea of having various heroes replace superman

Well saying the plan sucks and saying they have no plan are two totally different things. Its clear they have a plan... To the point that they forced way too much into BvS in a sloppy attempt to set the plan in motion.

Part of the problem is the time table of it all. In the aggregate it will all become a more comprised piece of work once we get the other installments. Its part of the challenge of making a movie and then making "sequels" that actually will be set at a time before this piece took place. Alot of what we have issue with in BvS will be better explained when the other films are released. Alot of the dots will be connected.

i dont know if i can tolerate another solo batman movie. who is he going to fight? after this, who can really challenge him? some little psychotic human from earth?
Man Batman was purely out mached with Supes and Doomsday. Like Superman said if he wanted him dead he would be. Heat Vision to his exposed face or even heating the suit would suffice even while Superman is effected by kryptonite. Doomsday was about to roast Batman before WW saved him.

Batman films in this universe opens up the window for guys like a proper Mr. Freeze and Clay Face. Guys like Fire Fly, Zass, Death Stroke. Batman has some of the best rogues in comics. There's plenty of stories to tell going forward.

One thing I hate about Henry Cavill's acting is that when he's Clark Kent, he doesn't go out of his way to seem un-super. Christopher Reeves was often clumsy, forgetful, and shy as CK. HC is just the same person with glasses.

Just came back from seeing it with the wife. It was entertaining. There were a shitload of plot holes. Didn't like the brief sneaks of Aquaman and Cyborg.

They made this version too dark for him to be portrayed in a comical way. I'm not mad they changed that. People just seemed to flow with the updated, more mature version. As an adult, I wouldn't want to see Clark acting all shy and timid.

OMG

There is sooo much going on here...in this thread...I can't keep up with what I thought and if it was mentioned...

I can say though that I don't agree with the somewhat explanation of Gotham and Metropolis being "sister cities". That's stupid. If Metropolis is the better of both, as the man of my family there is no way I would take my wife and child to the theater. Not only is this a stupid concept but it makes Thomas Wayne and idiot.

Lois had multiple times to confront Clark about there being a plot against Superman. But she says nothing. Lois Lane is an idiot.

Speaking of Clark, where the fuck was he? Part of the reason Superman is Superman is because of Clark. All of that character building from MoS and it doesn't matter at all.

As for the JL intros...Clark was suppose to be a reporter. Wouldn't it make more sense if they were introduced as a result of...reporting?

Side note: how do you introduce "metahumans" with no damn explanation. Does that make Superman a metahuman? Why is Wonder Woman a metahuman? Confused.

Jimmy Olsen getting got in the beginning. I thought it was funny that he was talking to Lois like he knew her only to be a plant. But when the movie went off there were a lot of people who had real names in the credits who don't get mentioned in the movie. You watching thinking "That's guy on the street no# 3" but he has a real name is a big part of the DC universe. But you don't know cause he died twenty minutes in and we won't know who he was ever again.

Why is Cyborg a metahuman? Why is the Tessaract in the DCU?

What the hell was Batman's car made of? It went through cars, trucks, buildings, a ship, crashed cause Supes stuck his foot out, got its doors ripped off, and still managed to make it across the bay (ugh) and back to Gotham. The hell.

Fight scenes were cool.

Lois and the spear. I'm not going to rehash this; bitch stupid.

The opening credits were cool. We didn't really need it...but it was nice to watch. Until the bats made little Bruce fly. Then you lost me.

The acting wasn't bad either. Alexander was only bad cause of his lines. The dialogue killed him. If Eisenburg (that's his name?) instruction was to be a psychotic who can't finish his sentences, he achieved his job. I can appreciate not having the typical Lex - cold, calculating, stone bitch face - and wanting something different but everytime he talked...bleh. Someone needs to gif the scene at the party when he's talking and it pans to the old lady in the audience...her face is the audience reaction to the whole movie.

I liked MoS. With all of the shit surrounding BvS I wanted to have high hopes for this. I knew it was going to be bad...but I tried anyway. If it was a Batman movie, it was good. For what this movie was suppose to be, it failed. D++ only because I'm hurt it could have done better and a C- is too good.

Get it together DC.

and come on, Bruce is the worlds best detective.

You actually make a great point about that. I will say that Tim Burton's Batman did show a Bruce who was willing to get close to the criminals or put his neck out there to gather clues. Like what he did with Joker (making himself be bait) and Penguin.

If you didn't know anything about DC and it's characters.... Could you honestly tell me what the plan is from just this movie? Honestly... and you can't throw in... I read this somewhere, I saw this somewhere, the comics... had this in it. Just from the movie.... If you say Yes, then please explain? Remember.... ONLY From what you saw in the movie.

for the next movie, i hope they dont go with the idea of having various heroes replace superman
latest

I hope not, but I just don't know what they do with Superman now.

Clark Kent is done for ever in this Universe. They would have to go a Crisis of Two Earths route to ever bring back Clark.
You can't have Superman without Clark. Dude can't be in the Blue cape all movie.
You can't have the Daily Planet without Clark. There really isn't a point to them anymore and that's a huge waste.

Obviously they bring him back, but then what? Also if you bring him back from complete death..... How can any other threat be viewed as a potential end game for the man? It works in the comics, because you go in knowing that death is temporary. This doesn't work in a movie, because all action movies need the risk of death to create tension. The load was blown to soon on this one.

Agree with all of this... 100 percent. Everything you said...
