Jason Pierre-Paul returns to Giants on one-year deal

Jason Pierre-Paul is returning to the New York Giants on a one-year deal for up to $10.5 million, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Tuesday.

The Arizona Cardinals had made a late push for the defensive end, a source said. On Instagram, Pierre-Paul thanked organizations that reached out to him, especially the Cardinals.

The Giants had designated him their franchise player in 2015, which would have meant a one-year, $14.813 million contract and free agency again this year.

Unfortunately, Pierre-Paul lost his right index finger and damaged other parts of his right hand in a July 4 fireworks accident, scrapping any chance he had of a long-term deal last summer and calling his football future into question. He stayed away from the team throughout the summer and didn't return until late October, at which time he and the Giants worked out an incentive-laden deal for just the remainder of 2015.

Pierre-Paul, 27, played in the team's final eight games and wore a heavy "club" wrap on his right hand, which limited his ability to tackle. He had just one sack in spite of being a disruptive presence in opposing backfields due to his still-elite burst off the ball.

Following the season, Pierre-Paul had surgery on his right middle finger that he said he hoped would allow him to bend it and grip better, so that he could play without the club on his hand going forward.

He was the Giants' first-round pick in 2010 and burst onto the scene with 16.5 sacks during the team's most recent Super Bowl title season in 2011. Back and shoulder injuries limited his production and playing time over the two seasons that followed, but he finished 2014 with nine sacks in his final five games and a season total of 12.5.

Mario Williams agrees to two-year deal with Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins are tossing more money at the defensive line.

The Dolphins have reached a two-year deal with pass-rusher Mario Williams that is expect to land him $8 million per year, sources told NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport on Tuesday.

The Buffalo Bills released Williams earlier this month, allowing him to sign prior to free agency opening Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET.

Williams, 31, garnered interest on the open market despite having one of his worst seasons in his 10-year pro career in 2015. The pass-rusher was roundly criticized for taking plays off last year and openly questioned his role in Rex Ryan's defense.

Williams is another big-name move for Dolphinsfootball czar Mike Tannenbaum, who traded for corner Byron Maxwell and linebacker Kiko Alonsothis week.

With Williams in the fold, it could signify the end of the line for Cameron Wake in Miami. Both Williams and Wake play the same position (left defensive end). Wake, 34, is due to count $9.8 million against the salary cap and is coming off a torn Achilles tendon. Reports earlier this weekindicated that Wake was still in the Dolphins' plans, but that should change with William's addition.

The Dolphins could also rescind the transition tag on Olivier Vernon or allow the defensive lineman to walk in free agency.

Williams fits best in a 4-3 defense, like the Dolphins will run in 2016. As an edge rusher alongsideNdamukong Suh, he will provide a formidable pass rush to attack the likes of Tom Brady in the NFC East.

Williams is a boom-or-bust player at this stage in his career. Far too often the Dolphins have been on the bust side of their big free agent acquisitions. Tannenbaum is betting that finally changes with Williams.

Yeah Cowboys were talking to him but they somehow want to be a team that features a running attack without putting any money into the running game

I get why they wanted Miller because he's only 24 but it was stupid. You didn't want to pay Demarco don't pay Miller either. Go out and get Elliott or Henry. Quit the bullshit.

Like the blueprint is "ANYONE CAN RUN BEHIND THIS LINE....". So why invest money in to it? Draft your guy and move on. They scared they not gonna get value for Elliot but shit if they want to trade down I don't care as long as they get Elliot. I don't like nobody at #4 except Jack and Ramsey. Ramsey they don't know if he a safety or a corner, and Jack coming off the injury. Joey Bosa ain't no damn JJ Watt. You small and white you Wes Welker. Or Ig guess Julian Edelman now. You big and white you JJ Watt.

They know deep down that "anybody can run behind this line" ain't true

Lucked up that McFadden stayed healthy and he ain't just anybody he a former top 10 pick and has that kind of talent

So it just can't be anybody they better be able to play and they know that whether they admit or not

Elliott would be nice here but you can't pick him at 4

Trade down to 8-10 then yeah ok

And stay away from Bosa fuck that

Yall must be planning on drafting a rb. I cant see it with #4 though...maybe 2nd or 3rd round.

Best bet might be to go defense than go Henry in the 2nd. But we need a defensive tackle and this draft is going to be HEAVY with DT's around that 2nd round pick.

Price of success I suppose.
Jags snatched yall top FA two years in a row. Julius Thomas now Jackson..
We HAD to spend big time money, but also wanted/needed to. Our defense is a mess. We've got to get right THIS season. We've still got some other guys on our radar.

The fat fuck Julious Thomas better come into camp in shape this season :hmm:

Not necessarily.

Jacksonville damn near have an entire team's salary to spend in free agency.

Even with the $15 mil they spent on Jackson they still in the top 3 of teams with cap space to spend.
