The storyline in MyCareer mode was cool. It was like a whole movie was put into the game. Props to Spike. He did his thing.
But I really like the "Off-Day" calendar, where you decide what do in your spare time to gain VC, or improve your player. It's brilliant.
Next year tho, instead of making separate 'cut scenes' like a movie, 2K should integrate smaller 'cut scenes' into the "Off-Day" events and let the gamers access them in a non-linear fashion.
For example:
Say you open up the off-day menu after you just played the Cavs... and one of the options today is 'sign an endorsement contract with (x) sponsor'... If you select that, you get a 'cut-scene' of you and your agent having a discussion about offers he's working on... And he tells you about Nike, Brand Jordan, or Gatorade, etc. or anybody else.
When the cut-scene footage finishes, you are back in the off-day menu and get to select the brands you want to sign an endorsement deal with.
(Now You could choose a few brands & sign deals right away, or wait until you win more games & accolades and your stock rises a lot more - to get a bigger payday.)
Shheeeeiittt...
2k could create lots of little cut-scenes for multiple aspects/events that occur on your off-day (which may or may not affect how you perform on the court)
Stuff like....
- Sign a deal with Gatorade, and your stamina/turbo meter increases on the court so you can run faster for longer periods of time.
- or Attend charity events, to get more fans to unlock certain dunk packages, or MyPark moves.
- or Throw a BBQ or birthday party for some of your teammates, and your team chemistry improves. (And different teammates have different 'team chemistry' bonuses. You decide.)
- Spend a few off-days (ie 'quality time') during the season with your family (or girlfriend) to unlock exclusive gear, sneakers, tattoos or accessories in the Store.
- or Take some acting lessons on your off-days to increase your marketability to get special endorsement offers, like additional in-game commercials. (Like the sneaker commercial in 2k15)
- visit Ernie, Shaq & Kenny at the TNT studios on your off-day, if you are interested in a broadcasting career after you retire from the NBA. (To gain extra VC)
- or visit your college alma mater on your off-day, if you are interested in a coaching career after you retire from the NBA. (To gain extra VC)
And lots of these types of off-day events could have short 3-5 minute cut-scenes created for them.
Maybe some cannot even be unlocked until your 2nd, or 3rd year... Or unless you make the All-star team. Or if you win the dunk contest. Or if you make the playoffs, or win a championship.
There's lots of possibilities.
