Black Ops 3 Xbox One & PC Closed Beta Now Live, Open Beta Starts August 28

Check your emails. Check your Xbox One download lists. Check your Steam Library. Download tokens for the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Multiplayer Beta are now being sent to anyone who pre-ordered the game. Of course, if you pre-ordered digitally, no download token is required.

Similar to the PlayStation 4 Beta, the Xbox One and PC Beta will follow a schedule that periodically raises the level cap and unlocks new Specialists characters. For example, during the first few days of the PlayStation 4 Beta, players were capped at Level 28, but were later able to rank up to Level 49 by the second last day. Additional game modes and one new multiplayer map will also be added at later dates.

Also like the PlayStation 4 Beta, the Xbox One Beta will open up to all Xbox Live Gold members by August 28 at 4:00PM Pacific Time, according to Major Nelson. We assume this will be the case for users on Steam as well, meaning you’ll be able to access the Beta whether you pre-ordered the game or not. Interestingly enough, Steam users who own Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Call of Duty: Ghosts, or Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will also be rewarded open access to the Black Ops 3 Beta, so have a look at that Steam Library.

Speaking of Steam, anyone playing the Black Ops 3 Beta on PC will want to refer to these notes from Activision, stating that “final optimizations and final Advanced Graphics features are not included in the PC Beta; however, you can expect that these will be in the final game.” Graphics features, optimizations, and optimized drivers from hardware partners will come at a later date, says Activision.

“Also, Paintshop is not included in the PC Beta, but it will definitely be in the final game in November. The PC team works on a separate schedule from the console crew with its own distinct development schedule. While it’s not in the Beta, you can plan for the full version to be in the final game.”

Unless Activision and Treyarch decide to extend the Beta by a day, it’s scheduled to end this Monday, August 30 at 10:00PM Pacific Time.

See you online!

anyone copped gears of war?

I got 2 or 3 people on my list that have it. 2 & 3 were me preferred to play Gears games. 2 introduced horde mode which every mp mode has copied in some form. 3 had the sawed off shotty (very cheap weapon). Unless you're good with the Gnasher shot gun and good at wall bouncing Gears 1 isn't worth the purchase.

Everybody I know was playing gears of war the 1st one is the best in my opinion and while the beta for call of duty was out no one in my friends list could careless we were rocking the gnasher and wall bouncing :lol::dance:

thanks...it comes w/ 2-4 and judgment as well...too much to pass up...I'm see if I can hold out til it drops to $29.99

Yep, I played a little last night. I'll be able to really jump into it tonight. They boosted the graphics quite a bit. It looks like a next gen game.

ya I'm most likely gonna wait til nov. as well...by then I can play all the games and there should be a price drop as well...if it jumps down to $30 before that I might have to pull the trigger tho

I don't think you'll gonna get it for $30. I spent about $30 on a used Gears 3 disc about 3 years after it originally released after my copy got cracked. The most you may get is about $45 to $50 or wait till they have it on sale on the marketplace for digital download. You gonna need a external hard drive for the entire collection.

not sure if I'm misreading what you wrote but the ultimate edition is $40 right now...and it comes w/ the entire series...the original version...2 and 3 and judgment  there's a deluxe version but from my understanding...both versions come w/ the "5" games tho

Just picked up a one and the live subscription - how do you get into the Preview program?

Someone has to invite you. Hurry up since Microsoft about to shut it down for new people. People just want to play 360 games and not do test and they caught on.

If you are already a member of Microsoft's Xbox Preview program, consider yourself lucky. The company has now revealed that the program, which allows a select group of Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners to test new features before they are generally released, will be scaling back on the number of new invites.
In a forum post, Microsoft stated:
"Due to a tremendous response from our fans, the Xbox Preview program has reached a near capacity level. With that in mind, we are slowing the number of new people we are accepting to optimize for testing. We are thankful for the amount of interest we've received to date and look forward to sharing more details on preview opportunities soon."
Xbox One owners in the Preview program are already testing out the console's upcoming backward compatiblity feature for playing older Xbox 360 games. In September, those same members are scheduled to test out the upcoming Xbox One dashboard update to Windows 10.

By September, school’s starting, the weather’s cooling off, and the buzz of summer is winding down. But with our Games with Gold program, we’re just getting started! This month, we’re helping you get caught up with one of the most exciting, awesome series in video games as we bring you Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition on Xbox One. This complete version of one of 2013’s most acclaimed games will get you ready to Jump Ahead into November when Rise of the Tomb Raider, one of 2015’s most anticipated titles, comes out only on Xbox One and Xbox 360.

Also in September, Xbox One Games with Gold members will get the exciting, indie sidescroller The Deer God, and Xbox 360 members will get Battlestations: Pacific, the comprehensive World War II tactical and action simulator, as well as the eye-poppingly gorgeous shooter Crysis 3.

Finally, in case you missed our exciting announcement at Gamescom 2015, when backward compatibility launches in November, all future Xbox 360 Games with Gold titles will be playable on Xbox One. That means Xbox Live Gold members will get even more free games to play each month on Xbox One.

As usual, all games are available only for a limited time*, as part of the ongoing Games with Gold program.

* The Deer God ($14.99 ERP) – Available from September 1-30 on Xbox One

* Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition ($29.99 ERP) – Available from September 16-October 15 on Xbox One

* Battlestations: Pacific ($24.99 ERP) – Available from September 1-15 on Xbox 360

* Crysis 3 ($19.99 ERP) – Available from September 16-30 on Xbox 360

Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition combines almost all of the downloadable content and all updates from 2013’s Tomb Raider, along with high-resolution 1080p graphics, into a single, easy-to-download package. If you haven’t played it yet, this is one of the most exciting, engrossing adventures available. Shipwrecked on a mysterious Japanese island, Lara Croft must learn survival skills, and solve the hidden mysteries of the island – all while dodging its bloodthirsty inhabitants. Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is your chance to experience Lara’s origin story, completely free, ahead of the release of Rise of the Tomb Raider in November. Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is available from September 16 all the way through mid-October on Xbox One, so don’t miss out!

From September 1-30, Xbox One Gold members also get access to The Deer God for free. This beautiful, pixel-art-based platformer asks deep questions about reincarnation, karma, life, death, and what it means to survive in a state of nature. You play a hunter who is suddenly switched into the body of a deer – and vice versa. You must learn to survive, and eventually escape from the body of the deer that you now inhabit. Procedurally generated landscapes mean each playthrough is different, but the story will continue to challenge you philosophically every time, as well.

Xbox 360 Games with Gold members can enjoy Battlestations: Pacific from September 1-15. Putting players in the midst of World War II’s great Pacific Theater battles, Battlestations: Pacific gives players the chance to command fleets on either the American or Japanese sides, making strategic decisions to determine the outcomes, but also taking command of individual units from battleships to submarines to fighter planes and dive bombers, as they see fit. Influence the course of history as an admiral or as a single sailor in this grand strategy-simulation experience.

At the end of September, Xbox 360 Games with Gold members get the epic Crysis 3. A first-person shooter at the technological bleeding edge, Crysis 3 places you inside a super-suit that’s both incredibly powerful and extremely customizable to your play style. Earning experience allows you to upgrade your suit’s stealth and agility abilities, or its armor and strength enhancements – so you can either take the fight directly to your foes’ faces, or choose a more subtle approach. Whichever way you go, you’ll find Crysis 3 to be a challenging, fast-paced affair, filled with excellent enemy A.I., mind-blowing graphics, and some pretty awesome weapons and innovative gadgetry.

As usual, Games with Gold helps you jump ahead with your friends featuring four free awesome games in September. Check out the full details for our Games with Gold program, and make sure you get in on the action while you can!

* Titles are available as free downloads for a limited time, for qualifying paid Xbox Live Gold members in all markets where Xbox Live is available. Some regions may offer different titles depending on market availability. See Major Nelson’s blog for additional details.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Reviews

Ultimate is the best possible demonstration of Gears of War's classic shooter bonafides
That describes Ultimate Edition just as well. But that decision doesn't feel like a remnant or an old mistake. It feels like an intentional inclusion. The result is something that doesn't feel new, exactly, but it does feel surprisingly relevant. Gears of War's campaign has some small particulars that could derail a worse game, and its flaws are more clear now than they were nine years ago. But Gears of War's bona fides as a shooter classic feel less in dispute than ever — and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is easily the best way to understand why that is.

Whether the campaign or multiplayer, Gears of War undoubtedly succeeds in constantly entertaining. The Ultimate Edition takes that to a new level through optimized gameplay, smoother controls, and updated visuals. Most importantly, it makes this classic relevant again.

In returning to the game that sparked one of Microsoft's more prevalent franchises, members of the Coalition kicked down their own proverbial childhood door. The return trip might have revealed a few more cracks than we remembered, but it also serves as a shield for our nostalgia. And as remakes go, that's worth the journey home.

While it's seemingly cool to rip on remasters, Gears Of War: Ultimate Edition is an absolute beast and a game I'm genuinely happy to see return. If you've never played any of the series it's the perfect stepping on point, and fans will revel in getting to go back through what is a classic. One of the best third-person shooters in history? It was and still is. The proof is right here.
