Selfscience: When the thread was posted I originally made a beat out of the Ninja Turtles movie and mannnnnnn I thought that shit was so cold, sheeeeit I thought I had the contest in the bag just like that. Thinking nobody coming harder than that. Then I open the thread and listen to "The Shakedown", let me tell u something that beat was like a suttle pimp slap. Not like a 2015 pimp slap like a 60s-70s pimp slap where they use the back of the hand and say some fly shit after. The sample sounds like a bunch of bees coming at you but instead of bees its feels like a million men coming your way (because of the Malcolm add) The drums natural stutter and groove "just belong there". Good drop and props for sticking with that beat.

Dr. Truth: This months Defending champ, the bar was high. You changed the beat at the last min & I must say it is much better than the original. It sounds more southern than "eastcoast" but hey Florida is on the east too so fuck it. Best of luck to you sir.

JackNickelz: You sampled Avengers and put Kill My Vibe over it ... the irony :lol:

drowzie: This beat sounds like Prince was in the back making drums for the song "Kiss" while someone was watching the sci-fi channel. I actually enjoy this beat a lot. It has a video game bounce to it. Probably my 2nd or 3rd fav this month.

wtfrulookinat: You can never go wrong with a Wesley Snipes quote. I feel like this is that DMV area type soul. Same vein as like a Nottz, Bink or 9th Wonder style. I dig the beat it is more relevant to the theme than "others". My only critique would be to either bring the volume of the snare up or move it over/out the way of the sample because the pocket of the snare is getting drowned. Not sure if that makes sense & i'm not sure you'd give a shit but that my only gripe. You always bring heat to these battles.



My notes(Skinnie Talls)

Beat was made with Propellerhead Reason. The opening quote was Morris Day in the movie Graffiti Bridge(Purple Rain sequel) There was also a sample of Bob James and at the end Jerry Butler. All the drums are stock sounds that come with Reason. Bass and chords and percussions were replayed and layered as well to "thicken" the beat. With the 2nd beat I added bongos & bass as well as drums.

wtfrulookinat is so DAMN CLOSE to be a classic it just needs to some seasoning...that is some great work and ideas on there I could HEAR Elzhi, Denaun, Wale, Phonte on here...I completely agree with Skinnie.

I don't know how I left Lord Vicious out of my earlier commentary. I like every sound choice, every instrument, every sample in this beat. The only nuance is that is feels stiff(pause) I think it needs legs. I completely understand the sparse approach where less is more, believe me I'm an advocate. It's just feel like the groove could have used more movement or change up, not saying have crazy loud breakdowns everywhere. Nah just subtle shit like changing a hat to a ride after 8 bars or adding some hi hats or open hats in some dead spots after a while. I don't know, but it's 1 of the best SOUNDING beats this month but the execution may have been overthought. Best I have heard from you in a few months tho.

This whole battle is so ill, I dead ass almost don't want to vote. Drowzie's joint sounds like the intro to some smooth ass 70's show and the lead character is a black spy or some shit :lol:

Truth shit goes hard, but I'm not voting for it... It's a safe pick for me, but all these joints are so smooth I want to step outside of my comfort zone on this one... or shit, maybe I will. I need to pour 2 fingers neat and listen to everything again

I can't hate on any of the tracks(except my own of course)and it was mad close but,
those horns and drum rolls really got me Skinnie.
