If you can attack the paint forcing their guards to collapse then it slows them down and prevents them from sprinting the other way on a miss and getting their shots off before your defense can set up...
The problem Memphis had, is they did not have anybody who could penetrate coupled with the problem of not having any jump shots.. So GS was able to run them out the gym..
