Basketball is a top 2/3 sport in the world and we damn sure dominate that.

Funny enough when Pele came here in the mid 1970's and played for the Cosmo he said that the sport will grow bigger and the USA team will only get better and better.
Many laughed at the time because it seems so farfetched.
Now look where soccer is now in America.
You look at concacaf and the question is, who are the next two teams that will join Mexico and USA in the WC.
Dude said basketball is an american sport.

I see what you're saying, but soccer is different because the world plays it. Basketball is only HUGE in this country. It's not as big a sport in Europe as it is here. Of course our best would beat any team. It's our sport.
But soccer is the world's sport. To say if our best athletes learned soccer instead of football and basketball, they would be elite is a bit of a stretch.
Remember, in soccer many countries are elite at the professional level. I do not think we'd just wipe the floor with them like we do in basketball. Germany has elite athletes playing soccer. Same with Portugal, Spain, Netherlands, England, Italy, Belgium, Turkey, etc. etc. But their athletes are also elite at the sport itself regardless of athleticism. Athleticism won't help a player score a free kick from 30 yards from goal. That's just absolute skill and talent.
Now, I do believe that our best can compete one day with their best. But to think we'd destroy everyone in the world cup with our great athletes is rather wishful thinking.

So Basketball isn't an American sport now? Since when did this occur. Last time I checked America was the country that has played it the most in the history of the sport.
What nations have invested in basketball at the same level as us for the last 20 yrs? I'll wait.
NBA is the best leag in the world thats what he is saying
None, there is no reputable basketball league outside America.
Speaks the truth here. If only we can learn from the shit we film.

I never said we'd destroy them that's where the disconnect is.
I don't think we learn it we rule it.
I think we learn it, our best play it, we are top 5 we have a chance we are a power... not just a pretty good team.
It's not possible to dominate any other sport like we dominate basketball.. just not possible.
and these other countries literally have 100 years head start![]()
But if you're good enough and from another country you can come play here
which is my point about players from here going to play over there....
that's not true. there are some good leagues out there but not as good as the nba...
people get drafted into the nba from out of those leagues
all the time

Ok, I got you. Top 5 is a bit much in my opinion, but it does sound good as a goal to achieve eventually. I say this nation could be on the level of a portugal within 30 years or so.
Those leagues are equivalent to the MLS.
Case in point "people get drafted into the nba from out of those leagues"

u learn to play like that on the streets
Why do you folks think there's such a resistance against the sport taking off here?
Almost every discussion I see or hear about it someone has to express how much they don't care about it or how gay it is or some shit. Is it because it isn't an American sport?
Fam, I encourage my kids to play as much pick up as they can, no matter where they are or who they're with. There's such an underrated, rich education in the streets that you can't find on a club, travel or even University level.
It's truly what were missing at the top.

The assertion that Americans are averse to football is belied by the reality. AmericaMore than likely the latter. American sports fans are extremely fickle to begin with, so something as chess like as football shoots over most people's heads and they retort to, "this shit is gay.."
There was one of these threads on the front page this very week about it being a pussy sport.
Plus we don't win as much as needed to grab the American attention span. These all collide into a deadly recipe for disaster, hence the hate.
The way you said basketball was an american sport came off sounding like you were saying it was a sport only we played.
You then went on to say there isn't a worldly sport that we dominant, which is false, because basketball is a worldly sport and we dominant that.
The assertion that Americans are averse to football is belied by the reality. America
has the highest number of people who play football, at 25 million, in the whole world
except for China. America literally invented female football, and the female world cup,
thanks to Title IX. Those who are saying that the sport has failed to take off are
speaking out of the pain of being knocked out of the world cup. This experience, is
teaching America about the unparalleled passion in the game of football. There is no
Americans sports event that galvanises America like the world cup. I went to my
niece's job, in a big mortgage company, and she let me in without anyone knowing
that I was not supposed to be there. The company made an exception to its dress
policy to allow people to wear American colours. Employees were excused by
company management to go home and watch the game, as long as they could make
up the time. Old women were talking about the football, and many were asking
my niece about the world cup, and she directed them to me, telling them that I
was a man and knew subject better. When I went back to my job, the entire lab
was deserted. My boss was in the breakroom, but everyone had driven to Hooters
and other places in Richardson and Plano to catch the game, if not at home.
Ironically, I was the only person who did not bother to watch the game, as I am
continuing my boycott of the World Cup. I did politely explain to my co-workers
earlier, that the European team would win the game, though

that's obvious though
we can see the difference.
look at the 1st touch of wondo vs the 1st touch of yedlin or green.
there's a HUGE difference
exactly and if you even think about it altho that would be great thing for the football in usa. but how good are dempsey and howard really? .
Dude said basketball is an american sport.
Basketball is a top 2/3 sport in the world and we damn sure dominate that.

A kid that never had a period in his life without a ball at his foot vs a kid who started at whatever age ( 8 for instance).
Neymar doesn't play in Brazil professionally...
Etc etc
Better.
Don't underestimate the determination of the black kids in America
Anything we want we get
But at the same time Basketball has MLS (or lower) status in most of these countries. People play it and enjoy but don't look at a career too seriously or even really know how it is possible. I mean even in the UK I would struggle to name a local team, or tell you what channel it is broadcast on (if it even is anymore). The sport just doesn't have that level of professional attraction.
So yes you absolutely dominate but you should.

He played 5 or 6 years professionally (with Santos) before going to Europe. A lot of international players actually play in the Brazilian league too. So some of these countries have good enough professional leagues to grow their talent and they're good enough to complete with the elite. The problem is that we aren't producing great home-grown talent because it's almost impossible to become elite competing against inferior talent. It's not out of the question for the a team like Corinthians (from Sao Paulo) or Boca Juniors (from Buenos Aires) to beat a good premier league team and beat them soundly on a good day. Our MLS teams aren't doing that.
there it is^^^
Our kids will have to grow up with nothing but soccer on their mind, in order for the U.S. to consistently compete at the very highest levels.

One of the reasons why players play professionally outside their country is because of the money.
Its happening already which is why the next generation of footballers in this country is going to be an absolute treat to watch. The kids who are 6-8 years old right now will flourish in 10 years time.
Good things are on the horizon.![]()
