**Official 2014 FIFA World Cup Thread**

This goes to the entire damn point

The education and money and resources available weren't haven't and never will be the problem for the U.S.

the problem has been the athletes themselves

You give the elite athletes which are on par with any athletes around the world as we prove in the other sports we're interested in.

going along with growing up playing it.. it's a wrap...

that's the entire point.
the thing is you and midget both have valid points. yeah the athletes play a role too. but best believe it aint about the money. if that was the case england would have won every WC. shit the netherlands have prolly the best education which barcelona took over(and the netherlands have no money). but ask how long it took to master that.
even if you look at germany the found they own system thats why they keep bringin in sick talents. but that has also taking years to develop. they aint even perfected it yet it will get better and better.

now the good thing is klinsman is german so he can copy the the blueprint. but you will still need people with football knowledge that played in the best leagues behind it.

No games until Friday, in the meantime:

Be patient man it's coming.

I was riding home this evening and noticed something I've never seen before in one particular neighborhood.

I saw young brothers in the hood playing SOCCER with goals setup on both sides and all I could do is smile

It's starting to catch on....

After the USA v Ghana game I saw two young brothers (ages 15-19) out in the AAA parking lot near my place just kicking the ball around.

Man soccer is not that complex. It's no disrespect to the game but it isn't.

All that's required when you have the absolute BEST athletes in the world is time.

Take these kids from that 4 or 5 age and teach them and watch the fuck out.

The natural coordination principles that we develop with our hands.. just do it with your feet.. and see what happens.

It's a little more complex than this though fam. And this is my biggest gripe with the American sporting public...

Because in the American sporting culture, its always "fitness over technical skill" when in reality, the adverse is true.

Football is ALWAYS technique over fitness, every time. Klinsmann has reiterated this through his coaching programs, reversing the US pyramid to an 80% technique, 20% physical regimen, when before, it was the other way around.

If it were still that way, the entire continent of Africa would don the most trophies ever 5x over.

In football you can have the greatest athletes ever, but that will only get you to about where the US is at.

Make no mistake, our fitness levels our top notch. Go look at our Olympic medal count... nobody is fucking with us in that regard, but that does not automatically translate to the football.

It really has nothing to do with your ability to create and manipulate a ball and this is what we need to be teaching our kids if we're ever to compete for real.

:lol::lol:

I coached an all black team in my rec leagues here in 2008 (we got dubbed team Obama) anyways...we went undefeated for 2 seasons in a row. Kept them together until they all turned 18years old over the years (started traveling up to Atlanta, Stone Mountain, Alpharetta) we went a strong 75-4-2 and the damn newspaper did a write up about us. All of them still play and started at their High Schools and 11 received state and local honors here in Georgia. Once we as black men will stop putting the game down and forcing NFL hopes on kids they'll play it and LIKE IT.

That's the key right there  This is what me and a friend of mine were discussing. Gotta start em out young though.

Excerpt from 2010 after being dumped out by Ghana, on rebuilding the national team.

The Basketball comparison is spot on.

Klinsmann knew the deal before he ever got the job.

Why do you folks think there's such a resistance against the sport taking off here?
Almost every discussion I see or hear about it someone has to express how much they don't care about it or how gay it is or some shit. Is it because it isn't an American sport?

But our best athletes have not grown up learning the game the correct way. that's the point.

Whenever we talk about our current athletes we aren't talking about them coming in off the street
we are saying with the abilities they have and the money america has and now the teaching we now have... how sick would they be?

our athletes are extremely technical and can do amazing things technically..

like nba.

the usa team is just as technical as the team from europe however the athletic ability plus the technical ability ='s demolished...

when we didn't send our best.. we got beat..

when we did... it wasn't close..

same principles

and please don't think im saying its 1,2,3

it's not

HOWEVER

if 20% of our best athletes start playing soccer from young.. and go with the system we have in place now.. the notion we won't be elite doesn't make sense...

also

those leagues that are tops are not full of local players.. they get players from all over the world.. so.. it would stand to reason if our best take the interest and are committed that they will be in those leagues overseas as well...

that will help. but the shit what he said about Donavon and bradley i do not agree with him on that. because you cant expect that from players that dont do it at their own football club and thats the difference

thats what the European schools have. they have the best players now as coaches and staff behind the scenes. the level of education will always be higher. for example look at what somebody like klnismann did. now imagine 100s of him. thats what you have in europe.

Gotcha. Now this makes more sense.

I just never can stand the notion that Americans think gym=success. :smh: Sooooo much more than that but I hear what you saying.

As far as our children playing from youth, it's a grand idea, but there are barriers in place that we are currently knocking down.

I really hate coming off as a cynic, but there's a serious racial divide in US soccer. If we really took our talented youngsters and honed them to the best we got, the National team wouldn't have many blue eyed, blonde haired players on it.

It would be completely Latino and Black. This the honest truth.

The system in place has done it's job to weed out the naturally gifted youngsters, in place of the ones who are well connected, have rich backgrounds, and good GPA's.

The biggest reason why the sport is a suburban deal, rather than an inner city one.

It's currently changing with more black and latino players on the squad, but it's been in place for a while now, and plays a serious role in how our youth players come thru the system. Things will be better once it's knocked down, and I think Klinsmann can help with that movement, though i'm not naive enough to think he doesn't have a boss either.

It sucks but it's all too true. You know the French national team were recently investigated for setting racial quota's on how many black players they could have??

I can't prove it, but the evidence points in that direction, and i'll be dammed if US Soccer didn't look at that many years ago and go, "hmm... good idea."

Nothing changed?? Really?? Look at the attention the broadcast outlets have given the Premier League, La Liga, and the Champions League....

"Nothing's changed.." is a bit harsh. ALOT has changed in a small 4 years.

Now of course we're not going to have the entire nation on board, but we don't need that. That's not even the goal really. There's some 350 million people here... Give me 10% of that dedicated to the sport, and we're good. There are some top footballing countries in the world that don't have that.

I think Ian Darke said, "Belgium has a population no greater than the state of Maryland."

There are plenty of hotbeds of football in this country, and with every world cup, we bring on more and more people who would rather spend their weekends watching Barcelona v Madrid than watching the Yankees and Redsox.

You just don't know about them because it's no broadcasted in mainstream media, but even that's changing.

This cup is no different. More kids are gonna be playing in the streets more than ever before and so long as they get they can make $$$$ from the game, the sponsors will be there, the coverage will be there, and the talent will pool through.

Look at Yedlin.

We're soon going to be seeing [even] The African Cup of Nations broadcast on National TV.
All Matches the last time - 2013 were live on ESPN Online and it was a hit.

that will help. but the shit what he said about Donavon and bradley i do not agree with him on that. because you cant expect that from players that dont do it at their own football club and thats the difference

About not showing up?

Watching every second of it.

Copa America is going to be IN the United States in 2016. That's a prestigious South American tournament, and it's going to be held here.

Progress.

Almost every discussion I see or hear about it someone has to express how much they don't care about it or how gay it is or some shit. Is it because it isn't an American sport?

Because Americans aren't the best at it. Look at football, ppl will say "Cmon you soccer guys, you all wouldn't last in a real sport like football".

Of course they wouldn't, they're soccer players. The only country that really plays football is America. Of course you will be the best in the world when your country is the only one that plays it on a professional level. Same thing with Basketball. It's an American sport.

Matter of fact, I don't think there is one sport on earth that America dominates in that most other countries actually play on an elite level.

We aren't the best baseball team anymore (Dominican Republic, Japan, Cuba)

Track (Jamaica, Kenya, Ethiopia)

Hockey (Canada, Russia)

Soccer (Everyone else. LOL)

Right but as it turns from a nice hobby into a national force winning trumps race for America.

They sent Jessee Owens out there to beat Hitler and he couldn't even use the same bathroom as his white countrymen.

So if the country cares consistently then that will be all torn down.

Yea you're right

thats what im trying to explain to people. if you look at the teams that go far or even win the world cup. they have players that are dominating in tthe team. that are showing up every match. players like robben, rvp, rooney, cr7, neymar, messi, pirlo etc etc.

also the first touch shit he explained people dont know how important that is. thats something iniesta has mastered. thats prolly the mst important thing there is as far as midfield and strikers goes.

That goes with what Americans care about. You're confusing it.

We don't play those other sports because we love our football and nba it's ours and grew within our country.

the other sports grew elsewhere and when you don't have to bend or connect you don't put soccer in over something home grown.

it's not cause we couldn't be good at it, it's because we have our own thing

NOW that we are being interested in it
things will change

it was looked at as a hobby not a profession for its entire history in this country.

that's obvious though

we can see the difference.

look at the 1st touch of wondo vs the 1st touch of yedlin or green.

there's a HUGE difference

wondo would have a goal

dempsey would have a goal

green scored it

all cause of good touch and bad touch

green basically did the same thing that Rodriguez did

in his 1st touch of his career

:yes::yes::yes:

All I can hear when I read this is Goebelles talking about how "American medals can be measured in negro sweat."

We winning bitch...

Funny enough when Pele came here in the mid 1970's and played for the Cosmo he said that the sport will grow bigger and the USA team will only get better and better.
Many laughed at the time because it seems so farfetched.

Now look where soccer is now in America.
You look at concacaf and the question is, who are the next two teams that will join Mexico and USA in the WC.

Shit we need some more of that here.

The good thing is, players like Dempsey and Howard will go on to be part of that program later down the road.

exactly and if you even think about it altho that would be great thing for the football in usa. but how good are dempsey and howard really? comparing them to a van de sar or van the man? thats no diss thats just the reality. if america could get a few of them there maybe henry, beckham etc. it will be a good thing.

Speaks the truth here. If only we can learn from the shit we film.

I see what you're saying, but soccer is different because the world plays it. Basketball is only HUGE in this country. It's not as big a sport in Europe as it is here. Of course our best would beat any team. It's our sport.

But soccer is the world's sport. To say if our best athletes learned soccer instead of football and basketball, they would be elite is a bit of a stretch.

Remember, in soccer many countries are elite at the professional level. I do not think we'd just wipe the floor with them like we do in basketball. Germany has elite athletes playing soccer. Same with Portugal, Spain, Netherlands, England, Italy, Belgium, Turkey, etc. etc. But their athletes are also elite at the sport itself regardless of athleticism. Athleticism won't help a player score a free kick from 30 yards from goal. That's just absolute skill and talent.

Now, I do believe that our best can compete one day with their best. But to think we'd destroy everyone in the world cup with our great athletes is rather wishful thinking.

Don't sleep on Howard fam. We may not make many outfield players, but the US shines when it comes to Goalkeepers, and Timmy is top 10 in the world right now.

His experience is more than enough to mold the next breed of keepers.

Dude said basketball is an american sport.

Basketball is a top 2/3 sport in the world and we damn sure dominate that.

yeah im not saying he sucks. thats why i compared him to van de sar. meaning that the super stars will always be in europe. now tim is a great keeper and he will def teach the youth some good shit.
