I'm talking about the fact that there are two "bosses" (most "drug" movies have one boss, and while he has friends, NONE are as invested as the boss), one of which wants to rise up out of dealing drugs to become a "legit businessman" while the other is hardcore about the life and doesn't give two shits about anything else like the club or the laundry-mats, ALL he cares about is the drug $$$, and how those places are ONLY good for laundering it, pardon the pun, lol!

Yeah, the show is definitely riffing on elements of The Wire. You can tell whoever created it was a big fan and wanted to put their own spin on the theme.

"What would happen if Stringer Bell had lived, stayed the man, started a family and was on the verge of that All American dream?"

It's pretty high concept stuff with the whole childhood sweetheart being the person hunting the main character.

I just finished the third episode and my opinion is still mixed. Some of the stuff is just so on the nose (which is what I don't like about Tyler Perry's work), and the acting... the acting just isn't getting any better to me. It's still uneven. I love Naturi, but I'm just not feeling her in this role -- well at least not when she's got her clothes on. You can tell she's relishing the chance to play against her usual type, but I'm just not buying the whole Lady MacBeth angle from her. They definitely should cast older.

its funny how the spanish chic doesnt even consider asking if Ghost is involved with someone. 50 as dudes pops? Come on. I hope the series doesnt begin to focus on him getting out of jail and then having a beef with Ghost.

After 3 episodes I've decided it's too contrived and a poor show. I'm a Naturi fan, that alone may grab a view or two but the rest I'll pass

The Eminem white boy is too much for me...

Just watched it, moving the story along, that damn grimey hoe with the red sneakers :angry:, they repeat multiple times, so you have to be sure which one you DVR, I always check the ep title.

I just checked a few torrent sites...more/better versions have popped up...keeping it real tho...this is a primarily "black" drama that comes on saturday nites...I'm surprised there are any links @ all

Right. That's a insult to The Wire and its writing. Power is a entertaining show. I haven't tuned out. But its a guilty pleasure. I don't invest much time talking about it, its predictable and its nothing we haven't seen before.

But at a time where nothing else is on TV? There's a place for it. This would get ate up in the Fall.

Yeah you usually can find links once this airs. For whatever reason I had to settle for a webrip.....and it didn't show up until this morning when I woke up.
 
I'm giving this one more episode...what kind of a kingpin would leave a meeting with his people to go run to meet the cops..tell the cops to come back in a few hours to check on the club...makes no sense

I WASN'T comparing "Power" to "The Wire", ONLY the Avon Barksdale/Stringer Bell dynamic to the one between Ghost and Tommy, one wants to become "legit" & the other just wants to concentrate solely on the drug business.

Ghost starts spending time away from her, spending their money w/o telling her, and now he's thinking/seeing his old flame on the d/l, and as she pointed out to Tommy (on next week's show) his WHOLE demeanor has changed, and while she has indeed been having fun with Shawn, the driver, it wasn't going anywhere, until Ghost started hiding ish from her, yet SHE'S the one that can't be trusted?!?

I get what you're saying. I just think it pales in comparison. I guess there's some truth to it. Maybe that was an inspiration for their story. Its so poorly done though that whoever is trying to copy it simply didn't understand how to translate String and Avon's relationship to their show very well. I guess the cac is suppose to be Avon......but Avon wasn't some wreckless cat. He wasn't as adamant as String was to go legit but he and String did share certain dreams and goals as far as the legit side went.


I judge Power as a simple crime drama. You judge it on that its a decent show. Its not The Wire. Its not one of these shows you talk to friends about "Did you see what happened last night" on some Wire or Soprano's type shit. Its a simple guilty pleasure.

LOL, bruh, cranrab & I went back & forth over this for pages, Avon's outlook on the game (and the dynamic between him & Stringer) changed when he got out of prison, they were off in two different directions, which is where "Power" is right now, you're correct about their dreams being shared when the show began, but when Avon got out ALL he cared about were his "corners", and all Stringer cared about was going "legit".

Don't get it twisted, I agree that it doesn't compare to "The Wire" in terms of writing nor acting, I was only comparing the four characters, and I think we can already see, the "legit" side is going to take more & more of Ghost's time, just like it did to Stringer.

After she fingered herself for me and then the next time i get close she flips the script and acts all brand new? She would never be able to mistake me for interested again.

She ask.. I'll do it but like this episode when she said pick some stuff up.. I'd bring the shit in, leave a note on the counter and take my ass out of there and go do whatever. You're not about to use me cause you got problems with your dude, soon as he finds out you're going to say it was all me and I'm the one that dies.. nope fuck you.


Tommy chick is dangerous but perfect for him. He's crazy she likes crazy they'll last forever.


Ghost fucking up over this club. He needs to stop playing them away games. Handle business with the drugs first then handle the club. Cops want a shake ok tell them I'll meet them after this meeting.
