‘Power’ Prequel ‘Raising Kanan’ discussion

While no specific details of Epps’ role are known, the House vet is playing a major figure in the Power cannon, I hear.

Being that Raising Kanan is the only Power spinoff to take place in the past, it is pretty clear whoever the Brooklyn-born Epps is portraying will have reach in the mainly New York-set world of the franchise. Reach that could stretch, one way or another, to the Mary J. Blige-led and Method Man, Michael Rainey Jr., Shane Johnson and Naturi Naughton starring Power Book II: Ghost, the Larenz Tate-led Power Book IV: Influence and the now L.A.-based Tommy Egan (Joseph Sikora) driven Power Book V: Force.

Along with Kemp’s End of Episode banner, 50 Cent’s his G-Unit Film and Television and Atmosphere Entertainment MM, Lionsgate TV is producing the four Power spinoffs series for Starz

Fatherless to Fatherhood author Epps is repped by CAA, manager Eli Selden at Anonymous Content and Beverly Hills-based law firm Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush & Kaller.

Am I the only that thinks this franchise died with Ghost?

I’ve tried with Power Book II, but I don’t care for Tariq, Mary J’s 1996 acting style, and these characters.

Kemp’s saving grace may be Tommy and his spinoff but I’m struggling with this transition.

Its just odd man....

Power was already a very flawed series with terrible writing and acting.

Its like anti-Soprano's. Soprano's had great writing and acting but imagine getting rid of Tony Soprano and making a show about his annoying ass kids.....it would be horrible and that's with great writing.

Power is trying to push forward without Ghost who was probably the only one written decently and could act.

Nobody even liked Kanan's character to watch a spin-off with him.

Its just really odd that a show like this would even have a franchise and a bunch of spin-offs. I do agree that the Tommy one may have the most potential.

Don’t we have stories to tell that don’t have anything to do with destroying the community?

They love showing the glamorous side of drug dealing. The money women and cars but never show the families and communities that are destroyed with the addiction and violence.

As long as we are all Black, I'll watch all of it...Our lives have scope, negative and positive. If the negative is in spotlight, I'll watch it if it's truly relatable just as I would watch a positive Cosby Show-type. We deserve to have it all. They get to have 'Breaking Bad', 'Weeds', 'Sopranos' etc. dealing drugs and killing people and it's remarkable, award winning tv but with us we complain about it destroying the community. Uplifting the community starts in the real world not movies and videogames. Why do we keep coming for our own trying to protect an image that the world is going to have of us no matter what we do. While we have to deal with them, I hope we put our faces on EVERYTHING, until we own EVERYTHING. BTW, White People's acting is only considered great acting because you consider the stretch of behavioural consistency from what you know of from their normal life...Black actors are not respected because their roles are considered to not have stretch when you assume they are acting like their normal life. A lot of these Black actors don't come from that life and be acting their ass off, while if it's a foreign Black Person (UK, etc.) they get more credit because it seems more like a stretch to make a relatable character, while we all feel like any of us could be a Tariq from Power (well guess what, you can't).

I'll say this....cacs get far more diversity in genres. They're allowed to have any show they can. So yeah they can have the Breaking Bad's and not worry about being typecast or their depiction on TV.

That being said.....I think for people of color TV in 2020 thanks to streaming services and other platforms is far more diverse than it was even just 20 years ago.

You got shows like Blackish, Black Lightning, P Valley, Power, For Life, Watchmen, Dear White People, Lovecraft, All American......a very diverse group. As a matter of fact...the black criminal series sort of seems foreign now.

This shit so wierd....the song is cold and sound like vintage Fif but why they put NLE Choppa on it? This like having Trey Songz on the intro of Power......

^^^^^
I heard this record for the first time this weekend and thought the EXACT SAME THING....

This should could be a perfect 50 cent comeback record but he ruined it with that feature

No disrespect but that kid had no f*cking clue what to do on that classic track, that beat is the cheat code and homeboy sounded lost confused overwhelmed and rushed.

Exactly. And I like some of NLE Choppa music but he can't do nothing on that beat he's not capable. He can tear up a south beat but not that beat ain't it for him.

And I know people gonna say Fif wanted somebody youthful on that record.....there were other options. Shit go get Joey Badass or somebody or one of them ASAP dudes.....

Not even gonna lie, 50 Cent is gonna fuck up with this one.
He really thinks people gave a fuck about Kanan?
What happened to the other one with the young Ghost, Tommy and Tasha?
They are part of the Raising Kanan storyline as well but remember they are younger than Kanan so you may not see them until the end of the season. I thought all of the spin offs would wrap after one season but apparently he is using the Marvel Universe paradigm at Starz for Power. Power Book 2: Ghost has a second season according to Courtney.

I swear they shot a pilot or at least a trailer cause I saw footage.

it was a clip that aired at the end of the last season of Power. It had dude from Shameless as a young Tommy. It was probably an intro to Tommy's series or some shit.

I agree. Omari must be a good damn actor because I despise drug dealers yet I liked James/Jamie/Ghost. He and Angie were the only characters I liked.

I stop watching power after ghost died.

I think 50 cent should focus on the black mafia family .

Doing all these spin-offs just looks like your trying to milk the brand name power.

That's exactly what's happening but I don't think this is on Fif. I think this is Courtney Kemp and Starz is the one behind these spinoffs.

That's what confuses me. Nobody really asked for these spin-offs lol. Kanan was the weakest character on the show but by the looks of things....they just using that character to push another spin-off. I'm sure he's going to be written much better than he was on Power. Looks like a generic 80's drug tale.
