Fight closer than anyone expected. Not overly outraged by the decision, Floyd will NEVER lose a close fight because he's Floyd and he means too much to boxing financially. That being said, Floyd to me is starting to look what he is, a fighter approaching 40. 3 years ago Maidana would have landed 10 punches all night. I see Floyd basically fighting this type of fighter for the remainder of his career. Maybe finish up with Manny. He's smart. A fighter like Shawn Porter would really give him fits at this stage of his career.
Floyd said in advance of the fight that he wasn't going to use as much movement as usual, to ramp up the entertainment for the fans. He did. Yes, he allowed Maidana to throw 850+ punches, but he only allowed 25% of the punches to land. Fight fans gotta know the difference between fighting and flailing. The only damage Floyd took was a cut from a headbutt. He handily won this fight, while making it look closer than it actually was. And now he's got everybody clamoring for a rematch with a fighter he could have easily blown out using his normal fighting style. Maidana would/will get RickyHatton'd
