Mayweather fight!! Post links and discussion here!!!!

eewwll said Sweet Pea was faster than Floyd?

You mean in punching speed, or dodging speed? Or just overall?

Faster hands, reflexes, etc. Floyd is extremely quick and has fast reflexes. However, the real problem he causes for opponents is his speed, quickness, and reflexes COMBINED with this training (and shell) and IQ. Then, you add the accuracy. Bar-none, Floyd is THE most accurate puncher I've ever seen. He lands clean + quick punches all fight long. Fighters (who often outweight by 20 pounds) keep their distance because he lands hard clean punches. That's why Canelo (who was way bigger than Floyd) kept his distance. Or even close, he's in that shell, you don't have much to hit...you miss, and then he counter punches you clean to your face. He's a machine. A guy like Sweat Pea was a defensive tactician like Floyd but he was mad difficult to hit... he was so fast that he even had the bad habits like Roy Jones Jr where he would put his hands down right in front of you. Floyd doesn't have that type of quickness but even if he did, he wouldn't do that dumb showboat shit anyway. He's too smart for it.

Understood - I can see it.

BTW. I've argued with Alexw multiple times that Floyd would beat SRL. That's what I'm saying it's unfortunate that Floyd is fighting during THIS era. I believe Floyd engaged more with Maidana (even though Maidana was roughhousing and holding the ropes) because he's also selling fights. He's gonna come out and beat the shit of Maidana in the rematch...but it's going to be less engaging and more counter-punching and moving...and everyone is going to complain (like in the Guerrero fight).

It's the era... I'm not quite sure who he can fight right now? Porter? he's a good young boxer but Floyd would take him to fucking school. Bradley? I would like to see Floyd fight a "slick" black fighter but if he beats Bradly, what does it really prove? Bradley is not a "great" fighter.... people are talking about Thurman? he's fought 22 times.. and who has he beaten.... that dude would be in way over his head....

I just don't see the career-defining fights at welter.. there are some good boxers there but we're talking about Floyd... but he's also too small to be fighting at middleweight... I don't think he'll fight at 154 again either...maybe someone could come down from 160 and meet him at 154? but that means we have to put Floyd at a weight disadvantage to make a great fight

I know but I think if Floyd works the body early, Maidana is food. Maidana has been knocked down several times in fights, and I think with Floyd being the architect he is, he'll dismantle him like you said, leading to a KO.

The main problem is that Floyd is always looking to protect his hands. I remember when he was beating the brakes off of Guerrero he said he thought he had broken his right hand during one of the middle rounds and that's why he wasn't going for the KO. He had Shane mad hurt towards the end of that fight....but he never went for the KO. I don't know if it was out of respect for shane and still respecting that Shane could have gotten lucky and hurt him, but he held off... Shane was barely on his feat towards the end of that fight... but Floyd didn't try it. I don't think he's going to KO anyone else at welter...unless someone like Khan with that glass chin of his comes up.

Maidana has been down multiple times but more like flash knockdowns.. he's never really been hurt hurt like you thought he was about to get KOd... like in that Khan fight...he went down and then starting beating the shit out of Khan... Khan was lucky to get out of that fight with a win...

but I think Floyd is perfectly content with just dismantling a fighter and cracking his dome with repeated overhand rights. It takes a lot of effort at welter for him to KO guys.
