Ok, Im Southern Alumni. I remember when I first graduated I said, that I would NEVER give money back to my school. What I would do is, if my school needed something, new equipment or things like that, I would donate that instead. Sorry I dont trust donating any money to any schools. Seems like most or all of that money will go else where instead of where you wanted or where its needed.

This has been a very interesting discussion. In my opinion, I think schools like Grambling missed a golden opportunity to integrate with the LSUs, Georgia's, and Floridas when they had a chance. In the 60s and 70s the NFL was full of just as many players from the SWAC as other major conferences. I can point to Doug Williams, Walter Payton, Robert Brazile, Buck Buchanon, Bobby Bell and countless others. Keep in mind that once upon time there were three major divisions in college football; Division 1, Division 2, and Division 3.
Most of the HBCU powerhouses were in Div 1 including Grambling and Jackson State. Then the NCAA split it up into Division 1A and 1AA. Now it is the FBS and FCS respectively. Had they lobbied for a seat at the table when they were on equal footing, then maybe they aren't reduced to a tape delay game at 1am on ESPNU every Sat. Those 70s Grambling teams under Eddie Robinson could of played with anyone. Now it's no longer. You will never get an elite athlete to go to an HBCU. Hell, you can't even get them to transfer when things don't go right at their original school.

Grambling Football Team Ends Boycott; Situation Still A Mess
The Grambling football team's boycott in protest of shitty work conditions is now over. But that's not to say all is well. Photos of the football facility that surfaced over the weekend show just how awful things had gotten, and the university has punished two members of the student newspaper for covering and promoting the players' effort.
The Tigers refused to practice late last week and then decided not to travel to Saturday's game at Jackson State, which resulted in a forfeit. The Southwestern Athletic Conference had said it would fine Grambling $20,000 for boycott, citing its bylaws, but the league has since backed down and said it would not issue any such fine.
The end of the boycott was announced this morning when Naquan Smith, a senior safety who has served as a team spokesman in recent days, sent the following statement to reporters:
Grambling (0-8) has four games remaining. Former NFL linebacker Dennis "Dirt" Winston is their third head coach since the start of the season. The players' decision to resume playing came after school administrators were forced to respond to a letter outlining their complaints, which included dilapidated facilities, having to pay for their own Gatorade, mold and mildew on equipment, and poorly cleaned uniforms, which caused several players to suffer from staph infections. The final straw, apparently, was a bus trip covering some 1,500 round-trip miles to a game in Indianapolis on Oct. 12.
Grambling has been hit hard by budget cuts and a reduction in state funding in recent years, but its finances have also been audited frequently by the state of Louisiana. The Monroe (La.) News-Star says Grambling's athletic director committed to a $32,000 upgrade to the weight on Friday night. On Saturday, the university also released a state health inspection report dated Oct. 7. That report noted that some flooring in the football facility needed repair and that ceiling tiles were in poor condition from water damage, but it also said there were no health violations.
Meanwhile, David Lankster Sr., the online editor of the student newspaper, The Gramblinite, was fired, and Kimberly Monroe, the paper's opinion pages editor, was suspended for two weeks.
Lankster said he was fired for tweeting statements from anonymous players and photos of the athletic facility from the newspaper's Twitter account. In an interview with allDigitocracy, Lankster also accused Will Sutton, the school's director of PR and communications, of censorship. Here's Sutton tweeting an angry response at The Gramblinite last week:

I know Mass Communication was not your undergraduate major so you missed the classroom instruction regarding conflict of interest. But the Code of Ethics that you must read and sign each semester as part of your Gramblinite application outlines certain behaviors that are expected of you. Item No. 4 of the Code reads:
"We report the news without regard for our own interests, mindful of the need to disclose potential conflicts. We avoid involvement in campus events, politics, demonstrations and social causes that would cause a conflict of interest, or the appearance of such conflict."

I told my dad about what has been happening lately. He used to work in the SWAC conference in certain capacity. He said and this is a quote 'I'm not surprised I remember when we used to go to Grambling for summer ball and work the scrimmage Eddie Robinson wouldn't even provide us with refreshments. Folks make him out to be a saint but thats not the real Robinson. So I'm not surprised conditions are sub par there. " I was like damn its always been like that.

While HBCUs struggle to find top tier talent at the FCS level, FBS schools are flooded with them. No where is this more true than the SEC, including schools like the University of Florida.
Every year, hotshot recruits come to put on the blue and orange, hoping to shine on the bright stage. While some players achieve their goals, others have to move on to find their path to college football stardom.

Just for the record Bethune Cookman probably compete with any FCS team this year. Their only loss is to Florida State and they actually beat CUSA's FIU at their home stadium this year. Not all HBCU's are sorry when it comes to athletics but the SWAC doomed themselves when they stopped participating in the playoffs and isolating themselves by only playing a conference championship game and letting that be that.

I don't respect the Pac 12 at all but they have a hell of a shot at it this year. I'm definitely an SEC fan but the SEC is definitely down this year. If they can't beat Alabama this year I don't think they'll ever do it.

WSSU (D-2 national runner-up) has about 20 D-1 transfers this season. UConn, Alabama, Tennessee, UNC, Marshall, Boston College, East Carolina...
This includes Philip Sims who was the #1 QB recruit in the nation a few years ago. He was McCarron's backup when Alabama won it all

Tuskegee, WSSU, Bama State, etc have always gotten tons of transfers. The kid that's backing up Russell Wilson transferred to Bama State and led them to a SWAC championship. Dominique Rodgers Cromartie played for Tennessee State, Robert Marthis played at Alabama A&M, Antoine Bethea played at Howard, Jason Hatcher played at Grambling, Jacoby Jones played at Lane, Isaac Redman, Bowie State...I could go on but you get the point.

There's no doubt the SEC dominates the Title game. I'm also pretty sure that a few schools in the SEC has a weight room/training facility that on the same level as Oregon. But to me it's Kinda like an intercity schools which lack educational equipment E.g. quality teachers, and learning material in the classroom. Being in an environment that helps you focus on the mission without a lot of distractions is always better in my opinion.
People make me laugh when people talk about the sec and its dominance over a school like Oregon. Ummm have you guys ever heard of population density??? Of course schools in the south east are gonna be better in football more football players in number in that area. If you look at Oregons roster you're gonna see a lot of transplants. For them to be where they are even with Nike money is impressive.
