Grambling State Football team, aint show up for bus ride

ncf_eddierob06.jpg

Grambling treated this coaching legend like crap in the end.:(

Look at how old boy in the background looking at him:smh:

Just when Bama State gets new academic and athletic facilities, they get audited by the State and it shows MASSIVE corruption. Best believe the wheels are in motion to turn ASU into Montgomery University or something.

http://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com...-University-s-revenue-bond-ratings-downgraded

ASU has been known for corruption for decades so anybody from the Gump who knows about ASU wasn't surprised by this shit. For the state to audit them is still crazy.

I can see NBC, State Farm, etc. backing out of the Bayou Classic. Attendance has been dwindling over the years anyway, and this is an easy out. Unless a miracle happens (celebrity benefactor), things will probably get worse before they get better.

And When This Right Here Happens and That Check Doesn't Come Thru.....This Will be When the President and the AD Will be Gone

I had seats behind GSU bench. The entire team was demoralized.

sidenote.

Southern University is new dorms and a makeover.
Ok, Im Southern Alumni. I remember when I first graduated I said, that I would NEVER give money back to my school. What I would do is, if my school needed something, new equipment or things like that, I would donate that instead. Sorry I dont trust donating any money to any schools. Seems like most or all of that money will go else where instead of where you wanted or where its needed.
I was at Circle City Classic last week too. On the field with my Southern gear (LOL) Had no idea they road the bus up there until all this. Stay strong fellas.
Pray the system (administration) doesnt try to mess over your scholarships either.
Mr President, get them guys some working equipment

if you follow the money or lack thereof, you'll find the root of this bullshit.

there's no reason why ANY school in 2013 should be riding buses on trips over 5 hours in duration. fuck dat.
WORD!

Playa, I had no idea.:smh:
So I guess Bobby Jindal failed at trying to merge of Southern University and The University of New Orleans. I'll give it five more years, and the majority of HBCUs will no longer exist in the south.:(
I said at the turn of the century that if sh!t didn't change, these mofos wouldn't last long and it looks like the writing is on the wall.

Now, it can go either way. Tighten up and it makes for a great comeback story, keep acting like sh!t ain't wrong and it is going to be business as usual with nobody givin' a f*ck!:smh:

See what I mean!! Listen to the President of the University say he did not know about the conditions in the locker room. He needs to be gone by Monday morning. Why is this idiot giving an interview looking like a grown azz fool? Again poor leadership and zero accountability.
I call straight BULLSH!T!

You ain't the president of a university and don't know how the facilities are of your main money maker. Do you think the Oregon University president knows how the athletic facilities look...or not?:hmm:
:smh::smh::smh:

the staph infections in the NFL and here...

the O' Bannon case against the NCAA

the investigation into the BOWLS finances

Clowny & Wiggins...

Johnny Football...

even going back to Reggie Bush and Cam Newton....

I hope this is the straw for a handful of camel's backs i.e. the problems with the NCAA!
Doug Williams played in them same shoulder pads.:smh:
Man, you wrong, but you right!:lol::smh:
President and AD need to go just off GP. Them facilities raggedy as hell.

Man, like when the story broke, clean out ya office.
yet at Oregon........their $68 million investment.
it damn sure helps with recruitment. i bet GSU doesn't show recruits their facilities on recruitment visits.

The FIRST school I thought about when this story broke.

The difference between the darkest night and brightest day!
You take a 5 star recruit on a campus tour and show him this. How could you lose when you got that Nike, BCS, Alumni, and fan money. Oregon gets new uniforms every game. Grambling gets new uniforms every generation.:(

That's it, you don't. He see that sh!t and he comin' THERE, plain and simple. I don't care how much prestige and history.

Now, all an HBCU would have to do is get their weight room to look like an LA Fitness and that would be enough to land a 5 star or 2, a handful of 4 stars, and so on, then you build from there.
The locker and weight rooms are complete shit, the unis are not thoroughly cleaned after games (one rumor is that sometimes detergent was not used), water leaks through the walls, and there's mold and mildew everywhere, and the visiting team flat out REFUSES to enter the locker room for halftime due to a fear of staph infections, and your Pres (Who claims to have an open door policy!) don't know? Aight.
I know, right?
The administration needs to go, plain and simple.

Game time.:lol::lol::lol:

Only credible HBCU in my opinion is Spelman and I hear Howard is also a good option.

What?!? Only Spelman? What about FAMU, Moorehouse, Meharry, Hampton, Lincoln in PA, Bama State, and Tuskegee? Tuskegee has one of the best veterinary programs in the country.

This has been a very interesting discussion. In my opinion, I think schools like Grambling missed a golden opportunity to integrate with the LSUs, Georgia's, and Floridas when they had a chance. In the 60s and 70s the NFL was full of just as many players from the SWAC as other major conferences. I can point to Doug Williams, Walter Payton, Robert Brazile, Buck Buchanon, Bobby Bell and countless others. Keep in mind that once upon time there were three major divisions in college football; Division 1, Division 2, and Division 3.

Most of the HBCU powerhouses were in Div 1 including Grambling and Jackson State. Then the NCAA split it up into Division 1A and 1AA. Now it is the FBS and FCS respectively. Had they lobbied for a seat at the table when they were on equal footing, then maybe they aren't reduced to a tape delay game at 1am on ESPNU every Sat. Those 70s Grambling teams under Eddie Robinson could of played with anyone. Now it's no longer. You will never get an elite athlete to go to an HBCU. Hell, you can't even get them to transfer when things don't go right at their original school.

Grambling's president was on the TJMS this morning; outside of stating that the state budget cuts have significantly impacted the school he danced around almost every other question the crew and Roland Martin asked. :smh:

Grambling Football Team Ends Boycott; Situation Still A Mess

The Grambling football team's boycott in protest of shitty work conditions is now over. But that's not to say all is well. Photos of the football facility that surfaced over the weekend show just how awful things had gotten, and the university has punished two members of the student newspaper for covering and promoting the players' effort.

The Tigers refused to practice late last week and then decided not to travel to Saturday's game at Jackson State, which resulted in a forfeit. The Southwestern Athletic Conference had said it would fine Grambling $20,000 for boycott, citing its bylaws, but the league has since backed down and said it would not issue any such fine.

The end of the boycott was announced this morning when Naquan Smith, a senior safety who has served as a team spokesman in recent days, sent the following statement to reporters:

As part of the athletic program at Grambling State University, the football team, took a stance on what we thought was right. We did not quit on our university. There are many problems that exist and if no one says anything, nothing will come of our institution. We hope Coach Eddie Robinson and his legendary players can appreciate that we stood up for what we thought was right. After coming into contact with different sources, we decided to reach out to the one person we trusted, Coach Doug Williams, with our concerns. His main statement to us was, "Go out there and play football." He also put us in contact with Jim Bernhard out of Baton Rouge. A meeting was held with Mr. Bernhard as well as, Douglas Porter, Ezil Bibbs, Roy Jackson, Henry Dyer and Howard Davis. The meeting confirmed him [Jim Bernhard] as being committed with our best intentions at heart and that he would ensure we had updated facilities, but we had to agree to being back practicing Monday, October 21 and finish the remainder of our season. Although we are going to continue our season, we have not forgotten the situation and how we've gotten here. We would like to say thank you to Coach Williams, the Legends and Mr. Jim Bernhard. Grambling has given us the opportunity to be a part of its legacy and we are only looking to improve conditions for the university and future student-athletes.

Grambling (0-8) has four games remaining. Former NFL linebacker Dennis "Dirt" Winston is their third head coach since the start of the season. The players' decision to resume playing came after school administrators were forced to respond to a letter outlining their complaints, which included dilapidated facilities, having to pay for their own Gatorade, mold and mildew on equipment, and poorly cleaned uniforms, which caused several players to suffer from staph infections. The final straw, apparently, was a bus trip covering some 1,500 round-trip miles to a game in Indianapolis on Oct. 12.

Grambling has been hit hard by budget cuts and a reduction in state funding in recent years, but its finances have also been audited frequently by the state of Louisiana. The Monroe (La.) News-Star says Grambling's athletic director committed to a $32,000 upgrade to the weight on Friday night. On Saturday, the university also released a state health inspection report dated Oct. 7. That report noted that some flooring in the football facility needed repair and that ceiling tiles were in poor condition from water damage, but it also said there were no health violations.

Meanwhile, David Lankster Sr., the online editor of the student newspaper, The Gramblinite, was fired, and Kimberly Monroe, the paper's opinion pages editor, was suspended for two weeks.

Lankster said he was fired for tweeting statements from anonymous players and photos of the athletic facility from the newspaper's Twitter account. In an interview with allDigitocracy, Lankster also accused Will Sutton, the school's director of PR and communications, of censorship. Here's Sutton tweeting an angry response at The Gramblinite last week:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p><a href="https://twitter.com/TheGramblinite">@TheGramblinite</a> Are you serious? &quot;Unidentified&quot;? Really? Step up and be identified and stop hiding, or don't use them as sources.</p>&mdash; willsutton (@willsutton) <a href="https://twitter.com/willsutton/statuses/390882907805319168">October 17, 2013</a></blockquote>
<script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Per allDigitocracy, Monroe had organized a rally last Thursday in support of the players. She also said the newspaper's adviser asked her to remove something from a column written by the student government president. Monroe posted the letter informing her of her suspension on her personal blog. This is an excerpt:

Ms. Monroe, you are hereby suspended for two weeks from your duties at The Gramblinite.
As a member of The Gramblinite, you should not have become involved in a public rally, as you did yesterday. I know Mass Communication was not your undergraduate major so you missed the classroom instruction regarding conflict of interest. But the Code of Ethics that you must read and sign each semester as part of your Gramblinite application outlines certain behaviors that are expected of you. Item No. 4 of the Code reads:
"We report the news without regard for our own interests, mindful of the need to disclose potential conflicts. We avoid involvement in campus events, politics, demonstrations and social causes that would cause a conflict of interest, or the appearance of such conflict."

I told my dad about what has been happening lately. He used to work in the SWAC conference in certain capacity. He said and this is a quote 'I'm not surprised I remember when we used to go to Grambling for summer ball and work the scrimmage Eddie Robinson wouldn't even provide us with refreshments. Folks make him out to be a saint but thats not the real Robinson. So I'm not surprised conditions are sub par there. " I was like damn its always been like that.

This is one of the only times you'll ever see niggas united about anything
It's good, too. Folks don't stay united anymore. Not cool you used the N, though, but I get you.

Does still happen sometimes..

While HBCUs struggle to find top tier talent at the FCS level, FBS schools are flooded with them. No where is this more true than the SEC, including schools like the University of Florida.
Every year, hotshot recruits come to put on the blue and orange, hoping to shine on the bright stage. While some players achieve their goals, others have to move on to find their path to college football stardom.
Check out what this foursome of former Gators is up to since leaving Gainesville.

Just for the record Bethune Cookman probably compete with any FCS team this year. Their only loss is to Florida State and they actually beat CUSA's FIU at their home stadium this year. Not all HBCU's are sorry when it comes to athletics but the SWAC doomed themselves when they stopped participating in the playoffs and isolating themselves by only playing a conference championship game and letting that be that.

why didn't y'all show the BCS national championship trophy case for the oregon ducks?

all that fancy shit and NO championships ain't worth a fuck. :hmm::hmm::hmm:

I don't respect the Pac 12 at all but they have a hell of a shot at it this year. I'm definitely an SEC fan but the SEC is definitely down this year. If they can't beat Alabama this year I don't think they'll ever do it.

It depends on the HBCU and winning/coaching definitely helps. It's easier to transfer to D2 than FCS because you don't lose a year of eligibility in most cases. WSSU (D-2 national runner-up) has about 20 D-1 transfers this season. UConn, Alabama, Tennessee, UNC, Marshall, Boston College, East Carolina...

This includes Philip Sims who was the #1 QB recruit in the nation a few years ago. He was McCarron's backup when Alabama won it all

Unfortunately, they only come back after something went wrong :smh:

Not to mention the runningback from Georgia that got SEC freshman of the year last year transferred to Alabama State. HBCU's get tons of D1 transfers, dude has no clue what he's talking about. Tuskegee, WSSU, Bama State, etc have always gotten tons of transfers. The kid that's backing up Russell Wilson transferred to Bama State and led them to a SWAC championship. Dominique Rodgers Cromartie played for Tennessee State, Robert Marthis played at Alabama A&M, Antoine Bethea played at Howard, Jason Hatcher played at Grambling, Jacoby Jones played at Lane, Isaac Redman, Bowie State...I could go on but you get the point.

they dont have a chance in hell

people need to realize football is won of the offensive and defensive lines

and thats sec football

So you mean they bus more than 700miles, play a hard fought football game and lose and have to turn right the fuck back around immediately and bus right the fuck back to bombofuck?!? Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiit!!

And they probably did all that shit on 2 tight ass yellow school buses.

I think the bus ride to Indy was the last straw.. they had to take a bus while Alcorn flew. The 2 schools shared a $550k payout after the game.

There's no doubt the SEC dominates the Title game. I'm also pretty sure that a few schools in the SEC has a weight room/training facility that on the same level as Oregon. But to me it's Kinda like an intercity schools which lack educational equipment E.g. quality teachers, and learning material in the classroom. Being in an environment that helps you focus on the mission without a lot of distractions is always better in my opinion.

People make me laugh when people talk about the sec and its dominance over a school like Oregon. Ummm have you guys ever heard of population density??? Of course schools in the south east are gonna be better in football more football players in number in that area. If you look at Oregons roster you're gonna see a lot of transplants. For them to be where they are even with Nike money is impressive.

Grambling gets big gift from Muscle Milk
http://www.hbcugameday.com/2013/10/grambling-gets-big-gift-from-muscle-milk.html

Over the last week, Grambling State's football program has been in the national spotlight for all the wrong reasons. Along with coaching issues, health concerns relating to faulty equipment and long bus rides, one of the players gripes was the lack of availability of nutritious drinks to supplement the energy spent on the football field. As a result the players not only have a new interim coach and improvements coming to their weight facilities, they also have all the protein they can guzzle.

Hours after the players announced they would return to the field on Monday, the team learned help was on the way in the form Muscle Milk. The product is a protein-enhanced beverage designed to promote muscle recovery and sustained energy. The California-based company tweeted it would be sending 384 cases to Grambling as it finishes out its season. The contribution is reportedly worth over $18,000.
