9th Wonder & Young Guru Debate/Explain Why Kendrick Lamar CANNOT LOSE At This Point

Re: 9th Wonder & Young Guru Debate/Explain Why Kendrick Lamar CANNOT LOSE At This Poi

i hope he does so we can see

he wont

In retrospect he made the right move by going first. He gets all the hype, the press, the stanning and all the "real hip-hop heads" adulation.

But he couldnt get all of that if he didnt drop a dope verse anyway so good for him.

Just by the way Drake could drop a verse that blew Kendricks away and he wouldnt get the props because Drake is an easy target that so called purists like to pick on.

And that is precisely what made this verse go viral: name dropping Drake. Without Drake's name the only real issue would have been him calling himself the King of NY. The other rappers he mentioned don't have the same stature (or sales) as Drake... nor the same haters. Kendrick is in a rare position of having mainstream appeal with underground respect. It won't last forever. So, it's perfect timing to trade on his 'dual citizenship'... he can't lose this battle.

lol...what's the rush? nas took @ least a month to respond w/ ether + it revitalized his shit

nas had paid in full. I think that was a week or 2 weeks later.

social media. this is a much more stressful generation to rap in when u think about it.

this will all be funny as shit if Kendrick don't blaze everyone he's ever on a track with for the rest of this year. Even funnier if his next album flops

but was it funny that he blazed everyone in the game w/ 1 verse?

this is subjective

my point is that even the dopest emcees eventually face backlash

Re: 9th Wonder & Young Guru Debate/Explain Why Kendrick Lamar CANNOT LOSE At This Poi

ortiz effort was good but nobody was put into place for the simple fact that kendrick hasn't responded yet.

once he responds and if those bars don't go toe to toe with ortiz then we can throw out those :itsawrap:

Lets be real here... Where has Kendrick ever spat bars as consistent as the rest of the true spitters in the game? Put us onto something he's done that's super lyrical.

Ortiz does this shit in his sleep.

We'll wait for a response from Kendrick and given the lack of potency from all the rest, Ortiz better be the first one he jabs at.

All I know is, his response better be on some Takeover shit cause anything less is gonna fall way short and he's gonna be open for business amongst hip hop heads.

I was only responding to your comment that he will"fall off" in two years. Backlash, in my opinion, would be fun the ignorant because he didn't say anything offensive. And if you think he cares about losing a few feature artist as a result of backlash.. You don't know Kendrick.

we are speaking different things here.

Name one great(again this is highly subjective as well) emcee that didnt eventually face backlash saying they fell off or they arent as "dope" as they used to be or they sold out etc etc

And I didnt say that he would fall off(I dont act like he is the second coming either). I said that would be the chatter

on the goodkid album.
and i doubt he responds to anybody. but he did raise the bar like he said and that goes for himself too. he has to spit fire over everythign he touches for the next few months at least or he comes off lookin weak.

he took the throne (not king of new york but as the hottest of the newer guys) so now he gotta defend it.

Cats don't want to hear that, though. They want to believe this verse went viral on it's lyrical merits alone, not because of who was targeted. Common is pretty much a full-time actor, part-time rapper at this point and what was his last joint that got tongues wagging about him: Sweet (Drake Diss). Kendrick did an entire diss track about Shyne and what was the response (in comparison to his 'Control' verse)? *crickets* Kendrick didn't raise a bar, he exploited a perfect combination of elements. He's on the upside of his rap career (unlike Common was) name-dropping a relevant rapper who's at the top of his career(unlike Shyne), but is the current rapper "real" heads love to hate (yet still sells platinum+). It was a very savvy move, but not as groundbreaking as it's being made out to be. The responses are what's galvanizing it as stroke of genius. Kendrick would be a fool to respond to the responses, unless he gets Ether'd (in public opinion).

when was the last time a rapper called out his contemporaries on a track?
i'll wait...

when was the last time a cali dude had the balls to call himself king of ny?
i'll wait...

he coulda left drake out and its the same track. it wasnt about drake and nobody is really even focusing on him. the focus has been on nyc to be honest.

this was about a hungry ass artist claiming his position in the game like cats used to do.

u missed the entire point of the verse...

This isn't about dropping a verse...this is about dropping all verse(s) moving forward. So fuck one verse for any of these rappers "named." This was a challenge to let them know not to play in the booth ...cause he is coming at all of them. It was a compliment that he is thinking of them (like when Nas and Jay and Big and Rae and Ghost..etc... were spitting back in the day). Ninjas were checking for each other.

Now I'm a Cali ninja but never understood the NY protectionist attitude. Joel Ortiz was nice wit it. He didn't shut Kendrick Lamar down or "spank him"..lol. It was a nice response for a rapper and a group that hasn't gotten the respect they deserve.

Once again - Kendrick is probably relaxing wit his boys nodding his head at the Joel Ortiz song and probably called him like that was nice. Kendrick seems to be like Joel and many other "lyricists" who enjoy the competition, sport and the music itself. The King of NY was strategic just to get a response...because the music has been shit.

Re: 9th Wonder & Young Guru Debate/Explain Why Kendrick Lamar CANNOT LOSE At This Poi

This shit's beginning to remind me of the "Roxanne, Roxanne" days.

The reaction has been about will the top 3 dudes he named respond. We know 1 won't. The others may on a line in a future song. Hell, most of the dudes he named not even from NYC & now that NYC niggas responding...they getting clowned for either being wack or not being mentioned originally. This is about him putting Drake, Cole, & Wale name on wax. I agree he staking his claim, but without those names & particularly Drake...he doesn't get the same reaction.

What's funny is cats are actually having a discussion yet in usual fashion Cali niggas and you south niggas making it about someone feelings being hurt.. You clown niggas are too predictable

I haven't heard 1 NY cat say Lamar's verse was wack.. He named specific dudes that is not a debate

What's the debate is the king of NY line and how that shit can be interpreted and of course Daz put up a pick of snoop wit the NY NY diss which was clearly at a time nighas was really beefin he talking about history repeats itself

That's the shit I'm talking about when I said that king of NY line wasn't on some keep it on wax shit because he basically called out OG's with that when he could have just kept it to calling out his peers.

But according to you and them other Cali ninjas its NY feelings hurt. Yin dumb niggas can't see the Forrest from the trees.. It takes 1 ignorant ass nigga to make this shit east vs west again that claimed the lives of 2 mc's over non sense

Re: 9th Wonder & Young Guru Debate/Explain Why Kendrick Lamar CANNOT LOSE At This Poi

but was it funny that he blazed everyone in the game w/ 1 verse?

it's only funny that you guys think so.

He dropped a verse naming names. The only part of the verse worth listening to was that part.

THAT wouldn't even have mattered had he not been on top of the game right now.

Case in point- he did it years ago, when he wasn't on, and no the internet didn't go crazy like they are now:

listen from 1:00- notice this clip doesn't even have 1 million hits.

He really gets into namimng names on 1:53

"I'm the best rapper alive, tell Wayne to swallow his pride"

Then he goes on to list Jay, Lupe, whoever was out then too.

This isn't new from him at all. He's just stayed consistent. Good for him.

Never heard of this. Cool, and you're right. I guess popularity is the difference between hating and giving hip hop a shot in the arm.

a. this wasn't as hot as the current verse. not even close. if it was, maybe it woulda gotten the same attention.

b. he was not at the top of the game when he wrote those bars so they dont hold as much weight.

c. if u dont get it u just dont get it and thats fine. i dont like lupe but bgol used to love everything that clown put out. shit happens. all im saying is it looks stupid to downplay a verse when everyone from the heavyweights, to the og's, to the new guys are acknowledging it for what it is... a dope moment in hiphop history.

You're kind of building Strawmen at this point, dude.

There will be other opportunities to poke fun at NY and our delusions of grandeur, but this thread isn't nearly as ripe with them as you're pretending it is.

Exactly

Re: 9th Wonder & Young Guru Debate/Explain Why Kendrick Lamar CANNOT LOSE At This Poi

Ortiz was aigght - typcal played out NYC battle rappin ass nigga. Joell Ortiz was on 10 the whole time. Rappers on 10 the whole time are one-dimensional. Kendrick has dynamic range and depth.

Great point! And I second that. It's the reason why Kendrick has blown the fuck up, he is arguably the best rapper alive right now and Joell Ortiz is still a C-list rapper and has been for quite a long time now. In fact, if it wasn't for the internet, JO would be on a milk carton.

Lamar is the best rapper alive? Some real delusional ass niggas on this board man smh

Re: 9th Wonder & Young Guru Debate/Explain Why Kendrick Lamar CANNOT LOSE At This Poi

These NY niggas mad Cali got the juice and their favorite NY rappers don't get raido play outside their borough.

It's not his fault tho. Blame the hype machine backing it & the lack there of for the NY rappers.

The fact remains if Kendrick hadn't said that little line about NY...none of these irrelevant niggas would be making tracks & would still be looking for a way to come up. They should actually thank Kendrick for extending their 15 minutes of fame in the limelight.

It always takes an LA nigga to shake the fuck outta New York.

First Snoop came tru and crushed the buildings

Now K.Dot got these niggas scrambling getting emotional of a "phantom diss"

New York niggas....

Lemme get this right...So if ever Kobe says... "I'm the King of Miami"... Then Lebron, Wade and all the rest of the Heat players are "catching feelings" if they respond, because he never mentioned any of them specifically by name, huh?

And all us NBA fans should jump on the "Kobe Winning" bandwagon just for saying that shit?

GTFOH :hmm:

This new generation got a lot to learn about the game.

For Example:

No matter how many Rings he won, there's a reason you never hear Magic Johnson running his gums about "I'm the King of Boston".

Lmao yup

It's so funny that no one has ever mentioned him as the best rapper alive until this bullshit.

He's always been known as a great new rapper, with a classic album under his belt and some good mixtapes.

He's one of the best new guys out., period.
He does one publicity stunt and these guys are losin their shit lol.

Calm down people. It's just rap.

This shut says more about the listenin public than it does the current crop of rappers.

Kendrick stated the obvious "as a rapper, I'm trying to be the best"... Duh

Competition wasn't lost in rap. Rappers are just realizing that they can still be friends and that the LEARNED from the previous generation who DIED over rap bullshit, and chased away money over beef.

We literally have rap battle leagues now. That never existed before.

Competition is just as high as its ever been.

He just made the GENERAL PUBLIC take notice I something that was already there.

This is the same WSHH generation that big up blindside sucker punch KOs the same as shooting a fair one. They just like the spectacle of the KO, never mind it might have come about as a result of a bitch move. These days, he who strike first, wins. Fuck he who laughs last, laughs best.
