Official Man Of Steel reviews! Love it or Hate it! Discuss it here! MERGED! SPOILERS

Re: Official Man Of Steel reviews thread! Love it or Hate it! Discuss it here! MERGE

That's really interesting with the Richter magnitude scale stuff!
I wondered how Sups generates his strength?

Here is what I mean:
If you or I wanted to lift something we devote a certain amount of force to it and need to apply more force to something heavier in order to lift/push whatever it.
Is that how Sups work?

If so, then that would mean that he has to seriously will himself to those levels(that were talking about) and something like that would only manifest if he's in a situation like a fight with someone thats capable of pushing him that far. Someone like a Hulk or Darkseid that can multiply their effort(strength) forcing him to match/exceed theirs.

Once more I don't know how someone like Batman could be on the JLA team if they are fighting enemies on those types of scales. That's no place for any human, let alone a hero with limited powers.

The army guys with guns..it didn't matter they were flies/maggots/ grains of sand. Helpless....really small

No more Comments from me about Faora:rise:

They tried to answer this question once and say it was a mix of telekinesis and his own solar battery powers. Like he can use the energy from the sun and what not.

Solar Battery

Superman displaying his power
As a Kryptonian, Kal-El possesses the ability to absorb the solar energy from yellow stars. His Kryptonian body is constantly absorbing and storing energy from Earth's yellow sun (allowing him to retain energy under roofed structures and even at night) which in turn grants him incredible powers, including superhuman strength, enhanced senses, impenetrable skin, and the ability to defy gravity.

His body is also able to absorb the energy of a blue sun, which also grants him increased strength and various other powers (although not to the same degree as under a yellow sun). Superman has also been shown to be able to absorb anti sunlight as during the World War III storyline, Superman drained Mageddon's core by absorbing the anti sunlight radiation, defeating Mageddon in the process.

Super-Strength
Superman has the ability to physically lift impossibly massive amounts of weight. Superman's strength easily surpasses the Class 100 strength level (this is the ability to lift over 100 tons under normal conditions) which is the ability to lift in excess of 100 tons with absolutely no effort at all, and has no known limit. Superman's strength is aided in lifting/supporting the most massive objects--especially when flying--by the bio-electric force field his body produces.

The upper limits of Superman's strength have not been determined in "The New 52" reboot. Previous incarnations have shown Superman capable of moving planets out of orbit without too much difficulty but at a later point in time he once needed Lois Lane to encourage him to achieve a similar feat. During the World War III storyline, Superman was chained to the endless wheels of the Mageddon machine and forced to move the gears of a weapon that dwarfed the combined size of the Earth and the Moon.

In The New 52 he has displayed the ability to lift a submarine with ease and while seeking to measure his strength and determine it's limits, was able to bench press weight equivalent to that of the Earth itself for five days straight (it was stated the Earth weighs over 5 sextillion tons) while being deprived of sunlight, thus rendered unable to replenish or build his strength during this test/feat of strength

Yeah got that from comicvine.

Before I make some points about some of the things you mentioned Tical, I have to say this.... Awesome movie!

I feel as with any movie, you can dissect parts and find links that weren't as strong as others may have been, but as a whole, MOS is a completely great origin story of Superman that speaks to how a real world would and a real SM would have a POv of each other.

Now as far as your points:

Physics wise, obviously there needs to be a suspension of belief when it comes to real world physics being applied to a super human, but in many senses they got it as close as they could possibly get it right. Punches, reverberations from throws into buildings, even particle matter being displaced came very close to seemingly being realistic.

The only thing that I think loses a lot of people is the fact of how the pull of gravity and radiation differences from the two suns plays a part in Kryptonians' powers and abilities.

But that's the comic book world and we're talking about aliens who have mastered and control wormhole technology!

To your point of Batman, I agree with what Buk or Rocky said as far as it being more of a detective drama with a vigilante than a pure superhero story. By looking at both SM and BM's movie worlds you would think that they are in separate universes, even though they are in the same comic book universe. I think Nolan's focus with the Batman trilogy was to show how human and vulnerable a man and his ideal of justice can alienate him from the humanity that he is trying to save while with Superman, Nolan and Snyder were trying to show how an alien can find himself in the humanity of the people that shaped and molded him who should be in essence foreigners to him.

So I see this from your perspective in wondering how a Batman where his highly above average human strength (which was never depicted by the way in the Nolan films) can coexist and even beat the Superman that we just watched on screen. However, Batman, Bruce Wayne, is supposed to be one of the smartest minds in the D.C. universe so...:dunno:

I think Nam-Ek was a replacement for Non for some reason. I just read up on him and it's kind of the same character. It seems this Nam-ek fella was made for Smallville.

This was a long and boring film.

Yup, BGOL over hyped and overrated this movie crazy. My 6 year old was hyped as shit during fast and furious 6 it this movie, he was ready to roll out. It was very Michael bayish.

Re: Official Man Of Steel reviews thread! Love it or Hate it! Discuss it here! MERGE

I think this is what Nolan really showed. Just how damn POWERFUL they were. But to me they didn't really show HOW POWERFUL they can be. Things that hurt him shouldn't have been able to Hurt him, or Faora. Like i didn't like the whole oil rig scene. But that's a small nerd thing. I have alot of those. But they did a good job i think of showing POwerful beings.

Some of the physics in the movie was damn good. I mean indestructible or not, you get hit with enough force, your ass is getting pushed back or knocked down, whether you get hurt or not!

Faora was going through the heeby jeebies when she got Ko'ed!

Only think I truly disliked was all the damn Jesus Metaphors/allegories!

Talk of a sequel and a "Justice League" film is already under way, and Snyder prepared for this film to fit within a larger canvas. Lex Luthor does not appear, but a LexCorp logo can be found on many a building or construction site that gets destroyed during a showdown with General Zod. Could this be foreshadowing? "Absolutely," Snyder said.
Will Luthor be upset that his buildings were damaged, or somehow benefit from the business he'll get from reconstructing Metropolis, setting up a future altercation?
"I like that," Snyder said, laughing. "I'm writing that stuff down to use it later."
And then there's the Wayne Enterprises logo on a satellite, which signals that Gotham and Metropolis can co-exist. "That was also to thank (producer) Chris (Nolan), for being a great partner and a great friend, and just acknowledge that inside the movie, and like the LexCorp thing, say, 'Maybe this world is bigger than you think.' "

Ed Norton got pissed at how Hulk turned out and wouldn't even do any interviews about the movie. Thats why he wasn't in the Avengers.

Re: Official Man Of Steel reviews! Love it or Hate it! Discuss it here! MERGED! SPOI

It was a Superman movie. They gave us for what is technologically possible now, the best film they could.

As far a s story,I'm glad they kept it to a minimum. Just give us the flashback stories. Great.

It's a Super man movie. You want to see the fights and the damage and strength at play. They got that off and gave Superman a little personality. What more could you ask for?
