Messi The Greatest Ever?

He's not senile he's just a "hater" ( I hate that world). Him and Maradona still fight it out over the media about who is the goat... shit comes up in the brazilian media at least one a month.

Shit.. he even said Neymar was better than Messi.... He says that shit because he really think that no one is even close to being the player he was...So he's like Rooney or Neymar are better than Messi (and you know neither of them is fucking with Pele)... he does that to diminish the position of Messi.. he doesn't really beleive that shit.. he aint senile.. he's just arrogant as fuck

His state of mind is irrelevant... a footballer is measured on his football accomplishments

Messi can take that Barca team anywhere on this planet and embarass teams as well. And does.

I understand full well what you're saying, but by that accord, Garrincha won a World Cup without Pele as well.

Might not have been in mass quantities like Pele, but it was shown that that Brazil squad was strong enough to do the business without him which then goes back to the question of supporting cast, and ensemble.

Just for the record, i'm not taking anything away from Pele here. He was a beast in his own right, and deserves all the praise football can give him, no matter how senile he is now. (he once said Rooney was more complete than Messi :smh::smh: OK.... )

I'm simply questioning whether or not the difficulty level of the World Cup in today's footballing climate, is a tough as it was 30, 40, 50 years ago.

If it isn't, (which by all accounts today, doesn't look so) than what is?

Aaaaaaah...sorry comrade...yes hack-a-Pele took Pele out of the 62' World Cup, but Pele did play in some of the games in that World Cup. Pele won the 1970 World Cup without Garrincha (who had retired from the National Team in 1966)

Because Barca is a team made up of some of the world's best players. It's damn near the world cup team.

Pele took a Santos team around the world and whooped ass and he was the only real star. THAT IS THE DIFFERENCE. You completely missed the point. Pele was dominating teams by himself. Messi hasn't done that.... and it shows his limitations because he always comes up short in the world cup. The Argentinian team could do the same shit without him out there because he doesn't produce.

If Messi doesn't do shit in 2014, it's pointless to even bring him up in the GOAT talks.... do something when you need to carry your team.

I get what you're saying.

:lol: I dunno man, some of the stuff he comes up with is... whew.
Like really fam?? Let the mic go. Just stick to the football.

But I get the argument. I have a strong feeling this is more a generational argument than anything else. Younger folks will agree that Messi dominates on all fronts on the club level, whilst the older folks will side that the World Cup is the toughest competition ever.

Either way, the kid is one trophy away from settling this argument.

This has nothing to do with age. The World Cup is the pinnacle of team football. That is where legend status is made.

It's just Pele being Pele man. I guess I'm used to it now.

I'm not even holding Messi to that high of a standard (winning the cup). I just want him to at least make an impression at the world cup. He's done nothing so far....been a complete non-factor. That is a huge strike against him.

Have we forgotten about this guys. Even though some of them have never won the world cup with their respective countries, they have more than proved themselves on the international stage.

Messi.....pffft

Eusebio. This brotha was class.

The best ever, no doubt...he won his 4th Ballon d'Or even if Iniesta should have won it...nigga's a beast!
okaight

but he is right tho as far as complete goes. i would disagree if he said that they were better. CR7 and rooney are more complete than messi. messi is better than both but he is not a complete player. thats why i gave that example with chelsea. if you have messi on lockdown he cant do shit. he cant jump and isnt headstrong. you have to play a certain way if you play with messi. and when you have the solution to that he basically is harmless.

and that's what always happens in the world cup

and that's what always happens in the world cup
yep.
thats the thing with players like CR7, Zlatan even rooney. if it doesnt work technical than they will start using force and strength. long ball, head, goal. you cant play like that with messi. thats why even tho zlatan slowed down the game when he was there(barca), he was still a weapon. because he could use force and make goals if it doesnt go well.

^^^^^

This guy was class. Been there done that on the international stage.

well i think Maradonna over Pele as well.......

If Diego wasnt such a cokehead his legacy would have been even so much better

As a side note.........how the hell he grew up in south america.....and got addicted to coke in Italy. ridiculous

I don't think he is the best yet but feel confident in saying if he sees out his career at this rate he will be the greatest.

I'm sorry how can be people say Ronaldinho is better than Messi, the young man has surpassed him and this is coming from a Ronaldinho stan.

People saying Messi is not the best in this era need to stop it, yes I prefer C.Ronaldo but he ain't better just like I prefer Iverson to Kobe but I ain't going to say he is better.

Producers and consumers man.... americans and euros consume 90 percent of the world's coke....he probably was never even exposed to coke in Argentina..

Is the International stage today as great as it was 50 years ago though?

I'd beg to differ.

Club football spots millionaires in every position today. Making the first team for the Ivory Coast isn't the same thing as making the first team at Chelsea or Real Madrid. 99% of people wouldn't be able to name the RB for Serbia or Japan, but will easily name the starting 11 for Arsenal or Man U.

While history has dictated that greatness equals World Cup trophies, i'd argue that the paradigm has shifted, and that Messi is dominating all in front of him.

C/S

That's how I feel too, club football has superseded international football, I don't see how this can be argued

In football, the apex is the World Cup. That can't even be argued.

Also, don't you think it's a bit ironic that Messi doesn't do shit in the cup? And Argentina has major talent. Messi, as great as he is, is a system player. The Barca team is perfectly built for him to shine. But the greatest players are great regardless of who they are playing with. Ronalda was the best player on the field whether he was in brazil, europe, or in the cup.... didn't matter who you put around him.... get him the ball in scoring position and he was putting it in the net..

Messi has not shown that he is ALWAYS the best player on the pitch.... he bests on Barca but doesn't do shit with his national team during the cup.:smh:

Eh, until he comes to Europe lets bin that one for now and with the recent track record of Brazilians in Europe........don't be too confident, wan't Pato mean to be better than Messi

Shaddy just talking shit. Naw..Pato never got props like that.

Neymar is the truth but he's too damn frail for Europe right now. He's rail thin.

How much of that is down to him? recent Argentina coaches don't seem to have a clue on how to construct teams, I know Maradona did not

I agree, I love watching the kid play but his physique and all his off the field stuff worries me :smh:

Sometime sI thnk peopel confuse skill with accomplishments.

Zidane dominated a World Cup, single handedly

That shit is where legends are made...... not club football else Ian Rush would be a household name

This is Zidane vs brazil 1998

Messi needs to dominate on the World Stage.

Not win a World Cup...... dominate on the way to winning.

Should be easy for him to do right since national teams are not made up of high paid players in La Liga

Zidane dominated the world cup even though Ronaldo was voted the best player ok

Zidane raped Brazil all by himself in that world cup... had the entire country mad the next day :lol:

You clearly weren't watching homie.

Zidane put on a fucking show. he won the Golden Ball that year....he was showing his ass in 06

thereis no excuse if you have top players like that in one team u have to do something. i agree tho that the combination is not always the best because tevez, ageuro and messi are the same players. they all come to get the ball. but still eewll is right

He said Zidane single handed dominated a world cup and threw up a clip of world cup 98, if that is what he is talking about how did he do that with 2 goals and no assists????

Coaching staffs have made suspect decisions for the last two cups... im not excusing them..... but if you are the goat, you make things happen anyway. That is what all-time greats do....

Yes.

Where is the contradiction?

Ronaldo disappeared during the finals when it mattered most.

Up till that point, he was the best player.

Zidane controlled that entire game, he got every other touch and scored 2 headers to dismantle Brazil.
This man orchestrated the defeat of brazil in a match brazil was supposed to win.

I was backing Brazil and my youngest brother was backing france as he was already a Zidane fanatic and i was a Ronaldo fanatic.

Go look at it again.

He scored two goals in the final homie!!! in 98 too

that's dominant

He's raped two great brazilian teams in the cup... one to win the cup and the other in the semi - final....

You need to make your point clearer, first you said Zidane dominated the world cup competition, now you are saying he only dominated the final, which is it as I am confused.

He said:

''Messi needs to dominate on the World Stage.

That sounds like he is speaking about the totality of the tournament and not one game, if that is the case, how did Zidane do that?

Zidane has multi-dominant goals over multiple world cups.

Let me ask you a question:

How many world cup goals has Messi scored?
