Went and checked out END OF WATCH yesterday (free tix). Enjoyed it. Been seeing the promo & on-set shots for KILLING THEM SOFTLY for several months, and I'm definitely looking forward to this one. They aired the trailer for this one and the crowd response was positive. Keep an eye out for it ... Brad Pitt ... Ray Liotta ... James Gandolfini, and more. Good little trailer.
* The trailer itself picks up shortly after the 01:15 mark once Johnny Cash's "The Man Comes Around" joint kicks in. Really enjoyed that track the past decade. That said ... should be a good flick. Movie opens later this fall & the feedback is positive thus far per IMDB, Rotten Tomatoes, Meta Critic, The Guardian, etc.

Killing Them Softly is based on the 1974 novel Cogan's Trade by George V. Higgins. The film was written and directed by Andrew Dominik. He chose to update the setting of the story, saying "as I started adapting it, it was the story of an economic crisis, and it was an economic crisis in an economy that was funded by gambling—and the crisis occurred due to a failure in regulation. It just seemed to have something that you couldn't ignore."[4]
The project was first announced in November 2010 when Brad Pitt was reported to be in talks for the lead role.[5] Pitt joined the project the following month, and production was scheduled to begin in Louisiana in March 2011.[6] Additional roles were cast in early 2011.[7] Dominik asked Pitt if he was interested in the role via a text message; he replied "yes" and the matter was settled over half an hour.[8]
Pre-production began in Louisiana in January 2011,[9] and filming was underway by March 2011.[10]
According to Dillahunt, the film's first cut was 2.5 hours long.[11]
Release
Killing Them Softly was scheduled to be released September 21, 2012, however the US release date was moved to November 30, 2012 to avoid competition from The Master and improve the movie's chance of awards success.[12] The film retained its original release date other regions resulting in the somewhat unusual situation where audiences in the UK are able to see the film over 2 months before those in the US.
The Weinstein Company will distribute the film in the United States and Canada.
