I'm so good now that it bothers me. I quit smoking weed. I don't drink and drive. I pay all my bills on time. I'm in my 30's and I feel like I quit fighting the "system." So I steal now.
O.k., to be honest, all I steal is a doughnut, or four, from my local grocery store. Or, every now and then, when I'm feeling especially bold, I'll steal a 32 pack of bottled water from the same store. Stealing doughnuts is too easy. On Thursdays it's my turn to buy doughnuts and coffee for work. They never count the doughnuts you take from the bakery: they expect you to be honest. So when I go to the self-checkout scan I'll add 3, or 4, extra doughnuts to the dozen I pay for. It's like they don't even care, it's too easy.
The Bottled water is a bit different. I started stealing it because I felt I needed a challenge. The lady monitoring the self check-out scan is supposed to enter the water automatically, so that customers don't have to lift it on to the scanner. If I notice that she doesn't notice I have it, I'll leave it in my cart, and walk out store with it after I've finished paying for everything.
Now that I realize that I'm stealing too much, and that I'm stealing because something is psychologically wrong with me, I'm determined to quit.
Still, I know I'm not the only one who steals. So when, and what, is the last time you stole something?
