LAS VEGAS -- Floyd Mayweather Jr., known as "Money," is in the money yet again with the largest contract guarantee for one fight in boxing history.

Mayweather -- the cover subject of the new "Money issue" of ESPN the Magazine -- will earn at least $32 million for his junior middleweight title challenge from Miguel Cotto on Saturday night (HBO PPV, 9 ET, $59.95) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

The $32 million figure is on Mayweather's bout agreement, which was filed with the Nevada State Athletic Commission on Friday, according to executive director Keith Kizer.

According to Kizer, the previous largest guarantee in Nevada -- where most of the biggest money fights have taken place -- was the $30 million Mike Tyson was guaranteed for the infamous ear-bite heavyweight championship rematch with Evander Holyfield in 1997.

"It's the biggest guarantee ever in the history of the sport," said Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, who said his company was responsible for guaranteeing the money. "Nobody ever had a guarantee bigger. Floyd is in a league of his own. I think that this shows it again."

Mayweather stands to earn many millions more because he also will earn significant money on the profits from the pay-per-view, which is expected to sell well in excess of 1 million units.

Schaefer said the fight is tracking better than any previous Mayweather fight except for his 2007 fight with Oscar De La Hoya, which sold nearly 2.5 million subscriptions and set the record.

In his previous two fights, Mayweather was guaranteed $25 million for his bout against Victor Ortiz in September and $22.5 million for his fight with Shane Mosley in May 2010.

"This is just a testament to his star power," said Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather's closest adviser. "Floyd Mayweather is a one-man walking conglomerate. Of course, this is exciting. Over the last 12 months he is the highest-paid athlete in sports."

Cotto is guaranteed a career-best $8 million but also stands to earn millions more because of what he will earn from the pay-per-view upside.

Cat will make $40mill off of fucking Cotto and Cotto will double his biggest payday ever and these niggas on here will argue that he is out of his gourd to request more than a 50-50 share from Pac.:smh:

Biggest Guarantee; checkmate.

Now why would he split a purse with Pac... it's economics and principle.

While I don't think Manny would be wrong to ask for a 50/50 split, the question is "What other fight are you going to get $40 million?".

If he loses, I see Cotto retires. He's about to make close to $10 million and I don't see him being willing to risk his safety fighting these young heavy hitters like Alvarez and Kirkland.
If he gets the upset, I see him getting $12-15 million for the rematch.

Pac might as well take the 40 cause he isn't going to make that much with one more ass whooping from Marquez.

Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr. sets record- biggest guarantee ever in the history of the sp

Love Floyd or hate him,but you gotta respect how he has been able to keep all his money...unlike Pac and just about all other boxers.

Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr. sets record- biggest guarantee ever in the history of the sp

Who gives a fuck. All this promo goof did was make Floyd look like an even bigger bitch. The biggest guarantee is $32mm yet Floyd was offering Pac $40MM. All it shows is how much money is on the table fighting Pac.

People said that same thing to justify Pac getting 50-50. Now we see the guy make a $40mill payday out of a fight with fuckin Cotto.

Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr. sets record- biggest guarantee ever in the history of the sp

Apart from the money...these pics look mad suspect. Ijs.
I dont know man....Looks like two young clowns with entirely too much free time and just as much money on their hands, acting a fool for the cameras.

well I think there are a few answers to this.

#1, by fighting Pac even with a 50-50 split he'll prob make nearly double what he's making from this fight.

#2, I don't think Pac is anywhere near as money motivated as Floyd is. ie I don't think missing out on that dough means as much to Pac as it does to Floyd.

thing I can't stand about Floyd is this fuckin dude can't make up his mind about why he doesn't wanna fight Pac. He did the interview with Michael Dyson recently and when asked would he fight pac he responded by saying the fight was ready to go but Pac didn't wanna take the 60-40 split. Now this week this dude is back to saying he doesn't wanna fight dude because of he says he's on performance enhancing drugs. Man make up your fuckin mind!!!

Well I think to answer your question... the problem is Pac didn't want to make the fight. Why? He had a 50/50 split negotiated, it wasn't taken off the table until after this last attempt at negotiations were damn near spoiled by Arum and his insistence on a outside stadium. They knew Floyd situation was time sensitive, but they tried to do everything to stop the fight. Road block after road block has been put up by Team Pac and it all stems from the testing issue. No one said anything about the money for months and a deal couldn't get setup so the money didn't kill the fight. More than likely it's the same shit it always was.

If this is the case why doesnt Pac take the cut Floyd is offering? And dont fool yourself, Pac "needs" the payday more than May. Floyds money goes to him. Pacs goes through Arum. And even Freddie Roach has commented on Pac's money issues and need to fight in order to sustain his lifestyle.

Bu according to the Pacman nuthuggers, Manny has worldwide appeal and therefore is a bigger draw and Floyd will be broke within 5 years after retiring.

I have no idea if Pac needs the money or not. Floyd gets his money the same way Manny does, from the promoter that guarantees the purse and a percentage of the PPV. Floyd has the world fooled with this "I take all of the money" bullshit. Golden Boy Promotions is Floyd Mayweathers promoter and Bob Arum is Pac's promoter. Golden Boy has promoted Mayweather's last five fights and they're promting this one too. Only difference is Floyd doesn't have a contract with Golden Boy beyond one fight. They do it all on a per fight basis.

Floyd gets his check cut from his promoter just like Pac.

Not true bruh. Floyd AND Golden Boy work together. Pac works FOR Arum. That makes all of the difference.

Big difference between this and what Arum is to Pac. May contracts on a per fight basis with Golden Boy to promote the fight in a partnership with Mayweather promotions. May picks fighters, dates, and sets guidelines. Pac is contractually obligated to Bob Arum. He CANNOT fight without Arum. Big difference bro.

That difference is so great it is embarrassing to think that someone could argue they are similar. Like you said, Pac cant even fight without Arum.

mayweather promotions is complete bullshit. they've never promoted one fight. they don't even have a damn website. lmao! it sounds better to say I work with golden boy than to say they promote the fight and they pay me. shit, this fight is also being done in conjuntion with Miquel Cotto promotions (seriously). Cotto Promotions is just as bullshit as Mayweather promotions. They're not real. all the fighters have a company now. It just gets them a little more money. Golden boy is w/o question the promoter. they pay the fighters. now mayweather's power is that he's not contractually obligated to these guys like most fighters are.

this what makes mayweather promotions much more than bullshit, if you want to do anything you have to go thru my company( bullshit that works)

Thats the beauty of it dumbass. Its a company with all revenue and no actual expenses. You dont see the business benefit and financial genius in that??

Again, golden boy has a parnership promotion agreement on a per fight basis with mayweather promotions. Floyd hand picks fighters, dates, sets guidelines, venue preference and financial demands. Arum OWNS Pac.

Re: Floyd Mayweather Jr. sets record- biggest guarantee ever in the history of the sp

So wait on top of the 32 milly guarantee, he gets a percentage of the already guaranteed 60 million in ppv buys. Get money young brotha
