I don't see how what Charles said correlates with what Russell's teammates are saying about him being not "black enough". What does that have to do with being successful?

The message Charles is sending is acting more black = unsuccessful. Which translates into black culture is unsuccessful. This isn't about crabs in a barrel.

Russell not acting black has nothing to do with intelligence or lack thereof. His teammates are obviously pointing out that Russel doesn't know how to fit in with "The brothas".
