You Must Learn: HIP-HOP STARTED IN JAMAICA... Not The South Bronx!!!

My nig, if you didn't laugh reading that then you didn't get it. Re-read it again!!

Oh, I read it... I'm just trippin' off how the thread went from 0-60 in 3 sec flat!
Nothing sets cats off around here quicker than threads about Hip-Hop, Kobe vs MJ, Obama, White women & Ocking. LOL

Man the second a nigga fling an insult off you know it's on and crackin'.

You know, everyone wants to try and lay claim to the foundations of hip-hop, but I don't see nobody claiming the shit when it gets attacked by the media and such.

I hate conversations like this, because it inevitably turns into Black Americans vs. West Indian thread #78878

I read the first page and was like muhfuggas beefin' cuz we got off the boat at different places and different times? :smh::smh:

Do these kats realize that every black, man, woman, and child of the diaspora is potentially a cousin. I thought about that when I 10yrs old, why don't people understand that. Folks up in here 'beating thier chest' not one of the them had anything to do with Hiphops creation. In Jamaica or the Bronx. NONE OF YOU KATS ARE KOOL HERC OR PRIMO SO SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!

So if what you're saying is true...then the Unified Field Theory of Albert Einstein started in Germany (his place of birth) and not at The Institute for Advanced Study...in Princeton?:smh:

To piggy-back that point, if what you're saying is true then the West Coast Offense, as we know it today, was started in Los Angeles, California...in 1931 (Bill Walsh's birth place/birth date) and not in Cincinnatti during his tenure as assistant coach.:smh:

This is some shit a kkkracker with a pillowcase over his/her head would say about something that BLACK people have done....

If Jamaicans don't want to be associated with Black people...FINE, it's atrociously poverty stricken over there anyway. Just don't be so Klu Klux Klannish in your hate...self-hate that is.

It Was his experiences in the bronx with his crew that shaped and molded hip hop not The Rast Clad Rude Boys

Reggae like other genres help mold hip hop...the OP used bad words to fire up posters....

Hip Hop uses many elements from other genres and everyone should embrace that...not find a way to disrespect other blk ppl....

:smh:

That's an absurd comparison, fam. You're comparing ONE theory created by ONE man [Albert Einstein] to an entire culture being represented by many people in America... Kool Herc was the firt and most prominent Jamaican Hip-Hop forefather in America, NOT the only.

Okay... with that your ignorance on this subject just went from 0 to Mach 3 and I can't keep up. Go with the wind, homie.

herc's jamaica...jamaicans r african and indian so we could go back forever.... but honestly, it started in nyc

Some of the comments are pathetic and destructively ignorant:smh:
dont know what to say  cause we should be fighting for the same cause, instead, some in this thread have lost sense of who they are and where they come from.
One should point out that knowing your background/history/ancestry is primordial in order to find your true identity

btw Malcom's was born american but his mother was from Grenada

Finally, it must be noted that though this book focuses on the Little family, Louise Helen Norton Little must be acknowledged for her contributions to her son's life. She was as committed to the black liberation struggle as her husband, Earl Lee Little Sr. In February 1997 and 1998, the Caribbean' country of Grenada, her birthplace, held memorial services in-her honor, services at which she was represented by her oldest son Wilfred Little.

Last Poets and Jimmy Castor and the Funky Bunch had as much influence on Hip Hop as Kool Herc did. Even Screamin' Jay Hawkins and Sun Ra

Isn't this the nigga who coined the phrase, "Yes, yes y'all and you don't stop?"

No...

This "nigga" is:

melle_mel.jpg

BTW, if you are Carribbean...is it possible you could stop using the word "nigga"?

It makes you sound like a copycat of B RAd from Malibu's Most Wanted...or worse yet, a Puerto Rican who doesn't like Black people but jacks their swagger.

WE'RE EVERYWHERE MUTHA FUCKAAAASSSSSS!!!!!!!!!

The unny thing about West Indians and especially Jamaicans and Haitians is that no matter where you were born and raised they will try to claim their countries.

Lets be honest culturally most of the name on this list are Black American. Just becasue you have a West Indian parent don't make you part of that country.

Funny thing about saying brothas don;t read....KRS-One's father was a Trini...yall trying to claim him now as well.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

No, I'm not....

What I'm doing is comparing a MOVEMENT (Unified Field Theory) that began with one man (Albert Einstein) and progressed through those who have refined it (too many to name) and may one day be used to explain the creation of the universe to a MOVEMENT/Genre (Rap music...not Hip Hop) that began with one man (Kool Herc) that progressed through those who have refined it (too many to name) and may one day be used to do something constructive.

This might surprise you, but you CAN INDEED compare apples and oranges....

This isn't up for debate. What's on the table is whether HIP HOP...not rap...HIP HOP, started in Jamaica...which neither did.

Damn....

Are you really that obtuse, or are you purposely acting ignorant?

Yeah...I think that is a good idea. I'd have a more rational conversation with a simple-assed kid on the corner.

Peace....

True! I don't see why all this divisiveness for the topic. Hip Hop is a melting pot of formulas.

Be specific....

The Caribbean contingent are the ones being divisive...and that's what I've found in my experiences...even moreso that Africans.

I was born in he US and I speak both my parents nations languages and I eat/cook the food....and follow most customs....

so I am part of both those countries as well as America...

Oscar De la Hoya was born in USA he speaks spanish and english...he probably follows his nations customs...he is a Mexican-American...

i don't know how cats can say your 2nd generation and not part of that nation....makes no sense...

First I support the thread, it was started in JA. But give props to the originator

U-Roy's Style
U-Roy helped start a style known as “toasting”, rapping over “versions” of popular songs remixed by dub music pioneer King Tubby. This style of music has now influenced the very popular American hip-hop movement. Modern artists such as Kanye West and Public Enemy have made great songs with the style of toasting. Considered one of Jamaica's first rap stars, "U-Roy raised the art of toasting to new heights. He didn't just spit a few phrases here and there, he rode the riddim from the starting gate to the last furlong."

This topic is extremely stupid

1, hip hop is a lot more than just rap. I suggest you dumb fucks watch Style Wars and Wildstyle. You'll also see that latinos and whites were involved.
2, Kool Herc was from Jamaica, but they weren't actually rapping and park jams were done before him. If anything he changed the DJ concept. Today a DJ is about as extinct as breakin.
3, You can base rap off scatting or simple poetry. That's like saying jazz came from classical music. Everything had a forefather. Rock had blues.

@ hiphop started in Ja! Lets keep this 100. Slaves were rhyming in the fields before Herc grandparents were born. Herc brought the breakbeat game into hiphop, but it was james brown he was mixing. ;)
