You get your job by RESUME or CONNECTIONS?

Shit my wife and I are having problems trying to get a job right now. Anything that would from you brothers is needed. We just retired from the Air Force after 24 years and jobs are hard to come by as most of you now already. I'm thinking about having a resume professionally done because I don't think this shit is working. USAJOBS resume is pretty easy. If you were in the military you know what I mean but the civilian resume is kicking my ass. Does anyone have any advice?

Goddamm! U actually passed that LeapForce test? I flunked twice. Printed the study guide too.
Others may disagree but that shit was not easy to me. Also now that I'm in mannnnnnn this shit is nothing like I thought it would be. I'm doing these jobs feeling unsure like a motherfucka after doing them. :smh:

i cant get search to work right now but i posted a thread with some legit work at home gigs mostly paying in the $13 - $15/hr range i believe.

if you find it or someone posts it, you might find some decent temp work.

Yea man its legit just got paid 3 days ago. Took them awhile b/c my time didn't match up but yea they paid me. Yea I told myself make as much as I can before they fire me. I think I just need to take a couple of days and read everything. They got a lot more guides than just that study guide for the test a lot more.

Both. Family member got me the look, my resume and speaking the biz got me the job. Matter of fact, the guy that hired me wanted to know more about my high school and stuff I do on the computers in my free time. We spent about 10 minutes talking about the actual job until he basically said "no need to interview anymore, you start Monday."

resume, head hunter and connections. Any one have any experience as a software packager? Shouldn't have to relocate and travel my be required. PM me.

how come we dont have a networking/connections thread/section, and not that pyramid scheme networking we got, a section for legitimate job opportunities for local cats....

Shit just don't make sense on here sometimes man. Not trying to start another debate but I still don't understand why we don't have a black sub forum like the asian, latina, and white girl ones. I had to sneak this in somehow.

i would say both, but mostly hookups. I'm trying to get into a field where i have no hookups at all in and it's hard. I'm thinking about switching my resume up to a skills based resume i think it would work better in web design/web development. what yall think and if anybody has the balls please post your resume that got you in the door so other's can read and learn!

Yeah I'm looking for a different job right now myself. I never thought sending resumes out on monster and career builder really worked. :smh:

Gonna have to hit some connects up and see what's out there... shit makes you mad seeing all those so called job openings listed and nobody calls

an yeah I co/sign the need for the networking the one we got doesn't get enough traffic

actually its tech support, every place i went had background checks. the last place i went only went back 10 years and i have to do fingerprinting because its for a nys school district. Which i under stand that. But the other positions were just regular tech support, IT admin work.

I understand....I meant tech support in financial industry.

The only jobs I have ever been in line for that checked past 10 years was banking under section 19 of the FDIC law.

I was a systems engineer for an airline and was fingerprinted but it only went back 10 years.

I was fingerprinted working for a bank and they went back until they found the skeleton.

This is the new Jim Crow 2.0

Give as many black men a criminal record as possible and reduce the competition for jobs i.e. background checks

It's all about networking.

go to www.meetup.com and find something in your field.

If there is none, start one.

Join professional organizations.

Join non-profits

If you meet no one, you don't connect, you don't give people an opportunity to like you based on your personality.

Don't sent out random resumes.

Call the company you are interested in, get the email of a person who is in charge of the field you are interested in.

Ask for an informational interview to discuss the company, market etc....
Get some face time, make it about the company and you being interested in what they do.

Don't pitch yourself looking for a job, keep in casual but by your questions show that you understand the industry.

Follow up with emails to keep the connection alive.
