PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds passes a million players on Xbox, now free with every Xbox One X

Today, Microsoft announced thatPlayerUnknown's Battlegroundsgarnered more than 1 million players on Xbox One in its first 48 hours.

In celebration of its launch, the publisher is offering a special holiday promotion where everyXbox One Xpurchase will come with a copy of the game. This promotion is available for a limited time starting December 17, 2017 through December 31 in select regions.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is a last-man-standing shooter being developed with the help of community feedback. Starting with absolutely nothing, players must fight to locate weapons and supplies in a battle to be the only one alive. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds is a surprisingly realistic and high-tension title set on a massive island. The game has shattered every record on Steam and came to Xbox Game Preview this week.

Even though the game is quite rough in its current state, particularly when it comes to frame rate and texture pop-in, it still manages to capture the essence of what makes it so addictive. Knowing that you have to take on 99 gamers creates tension and gets that adrenaline pumping.

If you participate in the development process by experiencing the Xbox Game Preview version, it'll help the developer make the final version the best it can be. According to Microsoft, in the weeks and months ahead, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds on Xbox One will continue to receive enhancements, new content updates including a new desert map, and further optimizations. It's also pretty cheap, at just $30.

Sucks they giving out PUBG for free now but oh well. That's what happens with day 1 purchases. But damn there is so much hate online towards it being on the XBox. As if we didn't know that its not complete yet. Shit will be fixed in time. Waiting to see if I can win a code somewhere before I buy it though.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Getting 3D Killcam and Other Features Soon

On December 20, update version 1.0 will launch for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, bringing with it several fan-desired updates such as the 3D replay and killcam. It is even possible this update will fix some of the technical issues with the Xbox One version of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds; however, this remains unknown.

The game’s 3D replay and killcam feature comes as a result of a partnership between Minkonet, a gaming technology company, and Bluehole. Furthermore, the patch will also allow players to detect when another player is using “Speed Hack, Aimbot, or the Extrasensory Perception (ESP) hacking.” It is not mentioned how this cheating detection will work exactly, but many players may benefit from it, while only cheaters suffer for it.

For many players, this update may be a must. This expectation is acknowledged by Minkonet CEO Peter Kim who promises that the new features will bring “countless hours of ‘wow-factor’ moments and shareable content” to PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds dedicated streamers. These streamers will benefit from the 3D replay system which provides “seamless playback video of the primary player’s gameplay” as well as roaming the battlefield and following other players.

One streamer that won’t benefit from the update, at least right away, is DrDisRespect. Although he just won the Trending Gamer Award at The Game Awards on December 7, DrDisRespect has decided to take a hiatus from streaming in order to work on himself. Hopefully everything goes well for DrDisRespect and he returns soon, but most players may ultimately respect his decision.

Since PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has come to Xbox One, despite the technical issues, it has proven to be a popular game, reaching 1 million players in just 48 hours. The continued support, regardless of whether it fixes these technical issues or not, may be an important factor in the lifetime of this game. With the addition of the 3D replay, killcam, and cheater detection, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is certainly shaping up to deliver quality for its players, though it remains to be seen when these features will come to Xbox.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is available now in early access for PC and Xbox One. Its full release on PC will come on December 20.

Earlier this monthPlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds(PUBG) made itsXbox Onedebut, following months of record-breaking success over on PC. Released via "Game Preview," Microsoft's dedicated program for releasing in-progress games across its platforms, the game aimed to capture the magic of its PC version with a controller. And whilereception has been mixedout of the gate, future updates are expected to bring significant improvements to the experience.

One week after launch, PUBG has now received its first patch on Xbox One, delivering a range of fixes and tweaks to the existing experience. While mostly minor changes, these set out to add refinements and improved consistency to the existing Xbox version. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has just received an upgrade patch for Xbox One X enhancing the game to take advantage of the additional power offered by the console. Similar patch for PS4™ Pro has been released a few weeks ago.

The Xbox One X upgrade patch for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt introduces a number of graphical features and tweaks to the game across two visual fidelity options — 4K Mode and Performance Mode.

In 4K Mode the game will run in 4K resolution (or supersampled on a non-4K display) with stable 30fps gameplay, whereas Performance Mode enables dynamic resolution scaling (from 1080p up to 4K) while targeting 60 fps during gameplay. Both modes support HDR.

To switch between these modes you need to access Options > Display.

Surprise! Leading media center solution Kodi has arrived on Xbox One

my_great_game_my_great_capture_2017-12-29_01-22-27.jpg

Kodi appeared on Xbox One today as part of what appears to be a soft-launch or alpha phase (thanks for the tip,Ross!), supporting what appears to be, a full raft of features from the Windows 10 Store version, including all those pesky add-ons everybody except the entertainment industry loves. It also means that Xbox potentially now has TV DVR finally, after being promised and thencancelledby Microsoft previously. A number of services can hook into Kodi for live TV and DVR features.
