visual-id.jpg

Here at Xbox, we’re still buzzing from our fans’ reaction to our news at E3 – from the unveiling of the Xbox One X to the 42 games shown on our stage. But we’re only just getting started. Today, we’re pleased to announce that in August we’re coming to Cologne, Germany for gamescom 2017. This will be the first time Xbox One X will be on the ground in Europe and we’ll have a huge line up of 27 playable games for the Xbox One family of devices and Windows 10 PC from developers around the world, including Forza Motorsport 7, Age of Empires Definitive Edition and Sea of Thieves.

Here’s a rundown of what we’ll be up to throughout the week:

Xbox @ gamescom Live

Tune in on Sunday, August 20, at 9:00pm CEST, 12:00pm PDT to a special Xbox @ gamescom live show to get latest news and announcements on Xbox One X.

The show will be hosted by Graeme Boyd (aka @AceyBongos) and Xbox Germany’s Maxi Graeff (@GMaxee). They’ll have news to share, games to show off, will sit down to talk with developers from fan favorite studios and play some of the year’s hottest games yet to be released. There will even be a few surprises and giveaways along the way, so be sure to tune in on mixer.com or watch via the mixer app.

Age of Empires @ gamescom Live

On Monday, August 21, starting at 9:00pm CEST, 12:00pm PDT, Microsoft will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Age of Empires franchise with a special livestream event in Cologne, alongside some of our biggest fans. The livestream will celebrate the rich history of the beloved PC game series, as well as give fans a first-look at Age of Empires: Definitive Edition, the beautifully remastered edition of this bona fide classic we announced at E3 last month. We’ll be talking all things Age of Empires with some of the legendary developers who worked on the games as well as sharing some exciting news that fans will not want to miss – watch on mixer.com or through the mixer app.

We’ll share more details on how you can attend in person very soon.

Xbox FanFest @ gamescom

We will again be hosting an Xbox FanFest experience for our fans who are attending gamescom 2017. FanFest will begin on Tuesday, August 22nd. We will be sharing more details on our plans soon and look forward to seeing you there!

All I want is Splinter Cell Backwards Compatibility.. I don't understand why this seems like it's never going to happen.

At least Conviction.... and the fact that Blacklist isn't should be a Gawd Damn crime. The fucking game came out just a couple months before the Xbox One dropped.

Bruh who telling I Still play blacklist on 360....and they 2 drop a new 1....

A couple days ago... I said fuck it and tried to fire up Blacklist on my 360 but I had completely forgotten that 360s sound like a fucking tank. I can't believe that I use to play that thing and it sounded that loud. Man I've been spoiled.

Destiny 2 beta: launch time and details (update)

The Destiny 2 beta goes live this week — hopefully you’ve prepared for the party by preloading the beta.

While Activision will eventually open up the Destiny 2 beta to all PS4 and Xbox One owners, you’ll only be able to preload it if you have a code. There are only two ways to obtain a beta key: pre-ordering the game, or receiving a code from a third party — like, say, a gaming publication such as Polygon! (We’ve got a bunch of codes from Activision, and we’ll be doing a giveaway soon.) The download weighs in at 15 GB on PS4 and 13 GB on Xbox One.

When can I play the Destiny 2 beta?
The Destiny 2 beta will be available first for people who have pre-ordered the game on PS4, starting at 10 a.m. PDT next Tuesday, July 18. It will expand to include Xbox One pre-order customers 24 hours later, at 10 a.m. on July 19. Two days afterward, at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 21, the beta will open up to all PS4 and Xbox One owners. The beta will end 35 hours later, at 9 p.m. on Sunday, July 23.

Activision is also planning to run a beta for Destiny 2’s Windows PC version. However, the company has not given a time frame more specific than “late August” for that.

What’s in the Destiny 2 beta?
The beta will feature the same content that Bungie showed off at E3 2017: the campaign’s opening mission, “Homecoming”; a strike called The Inverted Spire; and two Crucible gametypes, Countdown and Control, on the Midtown (Earth) and Endless Vale (Nessus) maps. Everybody will be able to play the story mission, but the rest of the beta will require an active PlayStation Plus or Xbox Live Gold subscription.

Destiny 2 offers three new subclasses — the Arcstrider Hunter, Sentinel Titan and Dawnblade Warlock — and they’ll all be playable in the beta, along with the original game’s Striker Titan, Gunslinger Hunter and Voidwalker Warlock. The latter three subclasses will have all of their grenades and melee attacks unlocked, plus the top paths of their respective skill trees.

In addition, beta testers will be able to check out Destiny 2’s new social space, The Farm — but only for an hour starting at 10 a.m. on the last day of the beta.

When can I play Destiny 2?
Destiny 2 will be released Sept. 6 on PS4 and Xbox One. The PC version, which is being developed by Bungie and Vicarious Visions, won’t launch until Oct. 24.

Update (July 13): Bungie announced today that three subclasses returning from the original Destiny will also be playable in the beta. We’ve edited the article to reflect this.

Update (July 18): We’ve added some details about file size, content and online subscription services, and updated the story for the beta’s impending launch.
