Xbox One Console Reviews

can someone tell me that site where we can get real cheap xbox live time at.someonee posted it before an i got a y for $29 im trying to get that an not the $40 for a yr.im on a budget hard body lol.

This happened to us last night. We played a mission that ended lasting about 2 hours, because we kept getting killed until it was 2 of us left and fought until we finshed. This is a great game on an off day, or weekend but during a work week? You'll be up until one...we had group members crying about work in the morning:roflmao:

I was trying to finish this mission and I kept looking at the clock. Wave after wave, minute after minute, I kept thinking about how tired I was going to be today. I had to lay my clothes out and get dressed like Iron Man this morning. If someone offered me meth here today, I'd probably take a puff just to wake the hell up.

How to Get EA Sports UFC 2 for $10

GameStop has announced its next special trade-in program, this one themed around EA Sports UFC 2. The $60 game launches tomorrow (March 15) but you can get it for just $10 if you trade in the right games.

Through March 20, you can trade in any two of the 64 gameslisted here and GameStop will pay you $50 in store credit when you apply those funds to the purchase of EA Sports UFC 2. To receive the full $50, the games must be in full working condition, though GameStop will accept defective items for a lesser value.

Another thing to note is that no other offers can be combined with this one.

Some of the eligible trade games for this EA Sports UFC 2 promotion include Call of Duty: Black Ops III (Xbox One),Deadpool (Xbox One/PS4), Grand Theft Auto V (Xbox One/PS4),Splatoon (Wii U), Devil's Third (Wii U), Just Cause 3 (Xbox One/PS4), Forza Horizon 2 (Xbox One), and loads more. See them all here.

In other GameStop deals news, here's how to get The Division for just $35.

EA Sports UFC 2 is a sequel to the 2014 game EA Sports UFC. It features Ronda Rousey and Conor McGregor on its cover, two high-profile fighters who have each lost their latest fights.

GameSpot recently played EA Sports UFC 2 and you can read our hands-on previews here and here. We also spoke with Rousey, who told us about the motion-capture process andrevealed that she'd like to play Samus Aran in a Metroid movie.

In other news about the game, Xbox One owners with an EA Access membership can play right now, while you can watch McGregor beat down comedian Conan O'Brien in this funny video.

Cross-Network Play
First, in addition to natively supporting cross-platform play between Xbox One and Windows 10 games that use Xbox Live, we’re enabling developers to support cross-network play as well. This means players on Xbox One and Windows 10 using Xbox Live will be able to play with players on different online multiplayer networks – including other console and PC networks.

Of course, it’s up to game developers to support this feature, and Xbox Live players will always have the option of choosing to play only with other Xbox Live players. We’re thrilled to confirm that Psyonix’s Rocket League will be one of the first games to take advantage of this new capability by enabling cross-network play between Xbox One and PC players, with an open invitation for other networks to participate as well.

Everything We Know About Gears Of War 4's Multiplayer

vault-610.jpg

Since the series' debut, Gears of War players have logged an impressive 2.3 billion hours playing Gears of War's multiplayer. The Coalition is acutely aware that it has a passionate fan base looking forward to digging into the next online Gears experience. Our recent trip to visit the studio for our April cover story focused largely on the game's story-focused campaign, but we were still able to eke out a few juicy details about multiplayer.

1) Multiplayer is getting a bigger focus this time:
"Historically, the campaign is the hardest thing to make out of any of these games," says studio head Rod Fergusson. "So if you look at the development of Gears one, it was probably 90 percent single player, 10 percent multiplayer. Over the course of the franchise, that percentage shifted, but I don't think it ever got above 70/30. Coming here, multiplayer has a much greater position at the table. On day one, as we were prototyping our first campaign experience, we were also building multiplayer maps. We really want to meet the needs of not just recreational players but eSports players, and it's something we've been thinking about for the entire development cycle."

2) Ryan Cleven is the Lead MP Designer:
Cleven's resume includes series like Need for Speed and SSX.

3) We'd be shocked if Horde mode didn’t return:
The Coalition wouldn’t confirm the addition of any particular multiplayer mode, but the team is keenly aware of the mode's popularity and seem focused on making the Gears community happy moving into the future.

4) The multiplayer beta will start this spring:
During the beta, players will be able to play as five of the campaign's protagonists. The first three are the three main playable heroes, JD, Kait, Del. The fourth is Kait's mom and leader of the Outsiders, a woman named Reyna. The fifth is Kait's uncle, Oscar, who is an ex-Gear soldier and expert survivalist.

5) Multiplayer is still humans vs monsters:
To fit into the lore of the world, there will be at least three factions in multiplayer, but these will still be separated into humans vs. monsters, meaning one side will play as the new Swarm enemies, while the other side with play as either COG soldiers or human Outsiders. We're not entirely sure if multiplayer is only limited to these three factions, however, so it's possible that there is a second, unknown monster faction.

6) Each faction has their own knife and will likely have other unique attributes:

Knives.jpg

7) The team is making a big push for the eSports market this time around:
The Coalition even has one staffer dedicated to work full time on the eSports initative.

"Gears of War was one of the first games to be part of the eSports growth, and it came around during a time when things like Twitch were just starting to explode," says director of community Adam Fletcher. "What were trying to do now is treat eSports as a brand. We started that with the Ultimate Edition where we partnered with the ESL, and worked to created different seasons in of a pro league as well as an open series that spans North America, Europe, New Zealand, and Australia. During our championships, we had over 130,000 unique viewers on Twitch, and we sold out of tickets for a live event down in Burbank."

8) But casual fans are still welcome:
"When I was at Epic, we didn't really value pro players," says studio head Rod Fergusson. "We were always focused on accessibility and how to get more recreational players. We let pro players do whatever they wanted and tried not to overdevelop for them. Now we're trying to find that balance. We recognize that there's this professional player, and have you sort of build a funnel toward them but also make sure your game is highly accessible."

9) Don't expect a lot of wind:
Wind is a big part of the story campaign, but at this time, the team isn't planning on incorporating wind flares into the game's multipayer maps.

10) The Coalition is getting some help:
The multiplayer team also includes London-based developer, Splash Damage, which has previously worked on games such as Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Brink, Batman: Arkham Origins, and even Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. “They’re helping with a lot of the level design stuff," says Fergusson. "Especially with meshing of multiplayer maps, we’re tapping into the expertise they got from Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. They also have a lot of expertise with online systems, in terms of matchmaking from Ultimate Edition. They basically had to rewrite for Xbox One, between us and them, the whole matchmaking sub-system…when you get a strategic partner like Splash Damage, we talk about training up our own team on Gears, but when you have another team that’s trained up on Gears, we definitely want to work with them as much as possible.”

11) Multiplayer will run at 60 fps and will have its own dedicated servers:What else do you want?

12) Balance is important to The Coalition:
The Studio has introduced a new takedown system that allows players to initiate a series of close-combat melee takedowns. In single player these might become fairly easy to pull off, but The Coalition has worked hard to ensure that, in multiplayer, players on the receiving end of these have several ways to counter the attacks and escape before a knife ends up in their brainpan.

Microsoft Is Now Testing TV DVR for Xbox One

tv-xbox.jpg

A source very close to Microsoft tells me that the software giant is now internally testing TV DVR (digital video recording) functionality for Xbox One, meaning that customers will soon be able to record live TV shows from the console.

As you may recall, Microsoft offers OTA (over-the-air) TV viewing capabilities on Xbox One in various markets, and I’d previously reported that TV DVR functionality—the ability to record live TV—was expected by late 2015. That obviously didn’t happen on schedule. But it’s still happening.

Last August, in Microsoft Brings OTA TV Capabilities to Xbox One in the US and Canada, I explained how Microsoft finally brought its OTA TV viewing functionality outside of Europe and Australia with a USB-based Hauppauge TV tuner. (I’d heard too that an Xbox One-branded unit was in development as well, and would arrive with TV DVR capabilities.)

Well, the TV DVR functionality is coming, at least. Microsoft is now internally testing an update for Xbox One called “Xbox One Threshold Beta 1603 System Update,” or th2xboxrel_1603.160308-1900. This update allows the console to record freely-available OTA TV, and it even works while you’re playing games, watching live TV, or when the console is sleeping.

It is, in other words, exactly what we’ve been waiting for as the next logical step in the Xbox One’s transition to a full-feature living room entertainment solution. Or, the one thing that really sets the Xbox One apart from simpler solutions like Roku and Apple TV.

Xbox's Director Of Programming Wants 64-Player Parties For Battlefield, MMO Raids

16-person%20Party%20Chat-610.jpg

As a part of this month's Xbox One system update, players are getting an upgrade to the party system. Currently, players are only able to host parties of 12 people, but with the next update, that number will jump to 16. According to Xbox's Head of Programming, Mike Ybarra, the team isn't satisfied just yet.

According to Ybarra, we aren't even close to how high he'd like party numbers to reach. "It was 8 six months ago, then we went to 12, now we’re at 16," he says. "I’d love to get that to 64 because that’ll get Battlefield and games like that which do 64 vs. 64…have at it! Now, I don’t want to be in a party of 64, but that’s a different problem! [Laughs]"

When asked why he'd want the numbers to be that high, Ybarra points to an application of the Xbox app's party chat capabilities that exists outside of Xbox gaming. "I like raising that – especially on the PC where a lot of our gamers use the Xbox app with non-Xbox Live games because you get free party chat," he says. "So if you’re in World of Warcraft and you have a 20-person raid, we’re seeing a lot of people loading the Xbox app, getting into big parties as their client for how they talk and they go in. I want to raise that number to make sure I’m satisfying the Windows side and their needs as well. I think it’s great that they use the Xbox app with all their games for free services, free parties, free chat, things like that."

The PlayStation 4's party chat system currently supports 8 players, which is what the Xbox One's party system supported at launch. Last September, Xbox One's party size jumped to 12 players as a part of the New Xbox One Experience.

Our Take
I think everyone's first reaction to this news is somewhere along the lines of "That's way too much," but Ybarra is simply talking about offering it as an option. Players who like 12-person parties can still opt to keep their parties at that size, but the option would always there for expansion. We may never see parties of 64 players – I know I definitely don't want to be in a party with 63 other people talking – but it's great that Ybarra has such lofty goals for the platform.

Xbox Is Actively Looking Into Digital Game Sharing Options

xboxonegames610.jpg

When the Xbox One was unveiled in 2013, part of Microsoft's plans involved allowing family members and friends to share games purchased digitally. The backlash surrounding the DRM of the original Xbox One plan caused Microsoft to reverse many of the policies and features announced at that initial conference, including the ability to share digital games. We met with Xbox during its Spring Showcase last month and asked its head of programming Mike Ybarra about this seemingly forgotten feature.

According to Ybarra, the team is looking into it with regards to how it fits in with the Universal Windows Platform that touches both Xbox One and PC. "Steam has a great family plan right now," he says. "We’re looking at both from a Windows standpoint – well, what’s our policy of the Windows Store? How many people can play concurrent? How do you share? We’re going to merge those two topologies soon so that a whole new model for how you share games across that will be in place. We’re actively working on that now to try to figure [it out], but we want to get to a much simpler model and potentially one that lets you do more… have a little bit more freedom in what you can and can’t do."

For now, if you want to share your digital games with someone else, a slightly convoluted – but completely functional – workaround exists to allow you to share your digital library with one single other Xbox One owner. That way is to set your friend's Xbox One system as your home Xbox in the settings tab, and set your Xbox as your friend's home Xbox. When you set an Xbox as a your home Xbox, it enables any user signed into that console to play the games of that primary user. If both consoles are cross-set in that regard, it means that you're able to play any digital games on your profile, as well as any digital games on the profile of the person who's set that Xbox as their home Xbox.

Our Take
If Microsoft can figure out some way to make it so players can share games digitally, it would address one of the main criticisms to buying digitally. It doesn't sound like this is something that's at the top of Microsoft's priorities, but it does sound like something that is on the horizon if Microsoft can work out the details.

The Weapons And Enemies Of Gears Of War 4

JD1.jpg

Gears of War has always had a fair amount of creativity stocked in the enemies it throws at players, as well as the weapons it has given them to mow them down. Though Gears of War 4 looks to make some changes when it comes to tone and scope, The Coalition aims to keep both enemies and weapons as delightfully nasty as they've ever been.

Weapons

Old favorites like the chainsaw equipped Lancer and the trusty snub pistol return, but with some aesthetic changes. To help instill the more survival-horror aspects of the game, the Lancer now has a flashlight attached to it that simultaneously makes targets easier to see and highlights their creepier features. Of course, not all changes to the classics are done for pragmatic reasons. The team admits the Gnasher now has a shell rail attached to it simply because, "it looks cool." While these additions are mostly cosmetic and don't fundamentally change how these weapons function, they are pleasant to look at.

The new weapons we've seen are essentially construction equipment that has been repurposed for violent means. The Coalition chose construction equipment in particular as an inspiration because of Gears of War 4's setting becasue the humans left on Sera are trying to build a new life after the war with the Locust. The two new big weapons we saw (and played with) are the Dropshot and the Buzzkill.

dropshot%20.jpg

The Dropshot
The Dropshot functions somewhat as a replacement for the Digger launcher from Gears of War 3, which fired explosive creatures underground. Instead, the Dropshot fires an aerial mine that floats over the battlefield in a straight line as long as you hold the trigger. The moment you let go, the mine spins downward violently. If it hits the ground, it drills for a second before exploding, blowing anything nearby into chunks. If you manage to nail a direct hit on the enemy, it drills directly into their head, decapitating them while their body convulses until the mine explodes. It's a gruesome display that fits alongside some of Gears' best weaponry and it's also super challenging to control, making you feel like a champion whenever you manage to score a direct hit.

buzzkill610.png

The Buzzkill
The Buzzkill fires buzzsaws – a lot of them. And they spew everywhere as long as you hold down the fire button. However, these saws don't become embed in walls; they bounce, ricocheting off surfaces and tear enemies to shreds. During our time with the Buzzkill, we found the weapon was great at clearing a room but was dangerous as it was efficient, capable of killing you with your own saws if you lose track of their trajectories.

knife%202%20final.jpg

Combat Knife
Gears of War 4 brings new melee executions to the series in the form of combat knives. These brutal finishers are a gruesome sight to behold, with knives plunging into ribs and skulls. In multiplayer, the look of your knife will depend on which faction you're playing as. The COG knife is shown above.

Head on over to Page 2 to find out about Gears 4's new enemies.

render_juvie_closeup610.jpg

Enemies

One of the Coalition's biggest challenges in the early stages of developing Gears of War 4 was coming up with an enemy that was just as fearsome as the Locust. After spending a good chunk of time going back through the series and studying why the Locust worked as well as they did, the Coalition eventually created the unit types that make up the new threat in the game: the Swarm. We got to see a handful of these enemy types in action during the demos we watched. While there were some we didn't get many details about (like the hulking and mysterious Snatcher creature we only caught a glimpse of in one of our demos), there are three types the Coalition showed us and talked about at length.

concept_drone_swarm_final.jpg

Drones
The drones will probably be the most familiar of the Swarm enemy types, with them resembling various modified Locust soldiers. We weren't told why these units bear such a strong resemblance to the enemies of previous Gears titles, so speculate away. During the two demos we saw, the drones functioned similarly to how the Locust did in the original Gears of War games, with each of them fulfilling a different role. Some of them would try to pin JD down while others flanked him or tried to get him out of cover.

concept_juvie_final.jpg

Juvies
Juvies are nasty business. At first glance, you might think they're updated versions of Gears of War's annoying wretches, but juvies are faster, harder to hit, and have a deadly ability. During the game you'll come across gooey pods that can serve as temporary cover until a stream of bullets pop them. Sometimes a drone or juvie will be inside. Certain juvies can unleash a bloodcurdling scream that will pop all the pods in the nearby vicinity, potentially flooding your combat zone with more enemies. Where wretches never really succeeded as being anything other than mild annoyances, juvies' deadly capabilities (along with their slimy appearance) could make them into something far more terrifying.

concept_pouncer_final.jpg

Pouncer
Pouncers are a bruiser unit we saw near the end of one of our demos. These giant naked mole rat-looking beasts are not only capable of pinning you to the ground and viciously mauling you, but they also carry deadly quills in their tails that they can whip at you as projectiles. However, the cautious or reflex-skilled player will be able to take these monsters down. During our demo, JD actually caught one of the pouncers in midair with his lancer's chainsaw as it dove at him, killing it instantly in a bloody but fantastic sequence.

Crytek's Video Game Engine Is Now Free

CryEngine is adopting “pay what you want” model, allowing users access to the engine and source code without dishing out any money, the game company Crytek announced today.

The news follows last month’s unveiling of Lumberyard, the Amazon-developed game engine that’s built on a modified version of CryEngine. Lumberyard is free, following in the footsteps of Unreal and Unity before it. Until now, CryEngine was the only major holdout; now, all four well-respected engines are accessible to anyone who wants to make games.

A game engine is a set of common tools and middleware that helps facilitate game development. Crytek’s newest iteration, CryEngine V, will be optimized for virtual reality development, the company said today.

Said Crytek in a press release:

CRYENGINE V launches today with a “Pay What You Want” business model, offering developers everywhere total access to the engine’s feature-set and full engine source code for a fee of their choosing, and with no obligation to pay royalties or additional service charges. Users who decide to make a contribution for utilizing CRYENGINE V can allocate up to 70% of the sum to Crytek’s new Indie Development Fund – a grant program that will see Crytek directly supporting promising indie projects around the world.

The latest evolution of CRYENGINE also introduces CRYENGINE Marketplace. The Marketplace will enable developers to access individual assets from Crytek’s own library, as well as thousands of materials, sounds, and 3D objects created by the CRYENGINE community and other trusted vendors.

Amazon’s deal with Crytek helped save the multinational publisher and developer from bankruptcy in 2014.

Microsoft looking into digital game trade-ins

A recent survey sent out to Xbox Live members indicates that customers may be able to sell their digital games back to the store for 10% of what they paid for. Meaning if you paid $60 and wanted to trade the game in later, you would get $6. I guess it's better than nothing for digital games you can never recover anything on.

S3oQozm-1.png

It's interesting to see Microsoft considering this option, maybe as a way to try and compete with stores like GameStop. However, I don't see it being a feature used if you don't even get back 50% of your money. Would you use this feature if it was brought to Xbox, or would you like to see adjustments made to it before being put on Xbox? Let us know in the comments below.

Rise of the Tomb Raider: Cold Darkness Awakened DLC release date

Rise of the Tomb Raider will receive Cold Darkness Awakened, its final slice of extra content, on the 29th March.

That date applies to the Xbox and PC versions of the game - you'll be able to pick up the pack either via the Xbox Marketplace, Steam or Windows 10 stores.

Season Pass holders will get it for free. Its standalone price has yet to be announced.

Cold Darkness Awakened adds a new wave-based combat mode to the game where, as Lara Croft, you must fight off groups of infected enemies.

Rise of the Tomb Raider's main expansion, Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch, launched back in January.

The DLC has mostly been kept under-wraps, although you can catch a glimpse of it in this trailer for Rise of the Tomb Raider and all of its various extra bits and pieces:
