We all know that the Japanese stick together. Shit when the PS3 launched they bought that garbage ass Gundam game just because. But Microsoft has to launch there unfortunately.

You might have seen commercials for Destiny, the upcoming sci-fi shooter that will be out for multiple platforms next week. You might have noticed that all of these commercials talk about the PlayStation version of the game. This is because Activision and Sony are getting all buddy-buddy on the marketing campaign, with the folks behind Destiny offering all sorts of "exclusive" content for PlayStation owners.

Microsoft's response? This cheeky series of advertisements, first posted on the Xbox UK Twitter and Facebook accounts, that claims they're making a Destiny-themed fragrance. They're not. The website, which is linked in UK magazine ads, just takes you to a British pre-order page for the game on Xbox.

But what's interesting here is that dig at Activision. "Thing is, we didn't have permission to run adverts for the game. So we didn't." Strange, right? Assuming this is true—and why would they write something like that if it wasn't?—it's fun to see a company like Microsoft calling Activision out for partnering with Sony on what's surely going to be a huge game all around. I love it when corporations fight one another.

Destiny comes out on Tuesday. The Destiny Fragrance does not.

Destiny customers who buy the game digitally on last-generation consoles can get a free copy on the new consoles with an offer that runs from now until mid-January, according to the game's official website.

The Destiny digital upgrade covers the game itself on PlayStation Store or Xbox Games Store ($59.99), the Expansion Pass (which includes two announced expansions for $34.99) and the Digital Guardian Edition (which includes the Expansion Pass for $89.99). If you buy any of those three items on PlayStation 3, you'll be able to download the PlayStation 4 version at no additional cost. The same is valid when going from Xbox 360 to Xbox One.

In order to redeem your new-generation copies, you'll need to sign in on a PS4 or Xbox One, as the case may be, no later than Jan. 15, 2015. Once you log in, you'll have to go to the PlayStation Store or Xbox Games Store, respectively, then add the (free) content in question to your cart and "buy" it. Bungie notes that Expansion Pass content will only be available for full download once it's released. Destiny's first expansion, The Dark Below, is set for release in December.

According to Bungie, anybody who upgrades — on both the PlayStation and Xbox families of systems — will be able to keep playing on both the old consoles and new consoles. Even after you make the jump to the current generation, your PlayStation Network or Xbox Live account will retain licenses to both versions. And Bungie previously confirmed that players can transfer characters and progress from PS3 to PS4 or Xbox 360 to Xbox One.

The upshot is this: If you buy a digital version of Destiny on PS3 when it launches next week and get a PS4 this holiday season, you can keep playing your Guardian on your new console in January after you download your free PS4 copy of the game. Then you can hand down your PS3 to your sister, and she can create a Guardian of her very own.

Destiny will be available Sept. 9 on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. We're planning to start livestreaming the game once the servers go live on Monday morning, Sept. 8.

This my only gripe with my xboxone.i love the playing music from a flash or hard drive just wish the music played while I'm on the game.

LOL the xbox has had a price drop for 3 months now and it's still not outselling the PS4. Also, with Destiny coming and being "marketed" almost as a PS4 exclusive, I expect that gap to increase even more. Also why have wires hanging around you system when you can just install a hard drive inside you PS4? One screw and you're done. Any other losing topics you'd like to bring up?

Destiny’s servers will go live on Monday, September 8, at 12 noon GMT / 7am EDT / 4am PDT.

Anyone who gets hold of the game early – including press reviewing Bungie’s shooter – will be able to play. Whether retailers begin sending out the game ahead of its September 9 launch is another matter.

Expect Twitch, Twitter and other social channels to start going bonkers from that point onwards.

The press are free to post impressions, screens and streams of the game, although Activision has requested that all review scores are held off until Tuesday, 7:01am GMT.

We have our copy of the game. Come back on Monday for impressions and a whole lot more.
