Xbox One Console Reviews

Middle-earth: Shadow of War Coming to Project Scorpio, Xbox One, and Windows 10 This Year

Talion and Celebrimbor return in Middle-earth: Shadow of War, sequel to the smash-hit Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, available as an Xbox Play Anywhere title on Xbox One and Windows 10 beginning August 22, 2017. The title will also be available for Project Scorpio following the console’s launch this holiday season.

Players will wield a new Ring of Power and confront the deadliest of enemies, including Sauron and his Nazgul, in a monumental battle for Middle-earth. With an original story featuring our two heroes from the first game, Middle-earth: Shadow of War will have you going deep behind enemy lines to forge an army in the hopes of turning all of Mordor against the Dark Lord himself.

Developed by Monolith Productions, the open-world action-adventure game is brought to life once more through an expanded version of the award-winning Nemesis System. The robust personalization from the first game is now applied to the entire world where environments and characters are all shaped by player actions and decisions, creating a personal world unique to every gameplay experience.

In the coming days, Middle-earth: Shadow of War will be available for digital pre-order on both the Xbox Store and Windows Store. As an Xbox Play Anywhere title, if you purchase a digital version of Middle-earth: Shadow of War on either the Xbox Store or Windows Store, you will automatically have access to the game on both Xbox One and Windows 10 at launch – and for Project Scorpio at its launch this holiday season – at no additional cost.

Xbox Play Anywhere enables gamers to save their Middle-earth: Shadow of War progress, DLC (including add-ons, Expansion Pass and in-game unlocks), Gamerscore and Achievements to their Xbox Live cloud-synced player profiles, so they can pick up where they left on another Xbox One or Windows 10.

For the latest news and information about Middle-earth: Shadow of War, keep it locked to Xbox Wire.

Introducing Xbox Game Pass: Unlimited Access to More Than 100 Games

Xbox-Game-Pass_Hero-hero.jpg

At Xbox, we put gamers at the center of everything we do and remain committed to giving you the freedom to play the games you want, with the friends you want, on the devices you want. This year is shaping up to be an exciting one for gamers. As we prepare to launch Project Scorpio this holiday, bringing the most powerful console ever made to the Xbox One family of devices, we continue to make platform improvements to connect the growing community of players on Xbox Live and add to a robust and diverse portfolio of games across Xbox One and Windows 10.

Today, we’re continuing our commitment to give you more options to diversify and expand your library of games with Xbox Game Pass, a new gaming subscription service coming later this spring. Xbox Game Pass gives you unlimited access to over 100 Xbox One and backward compatible Xbox 360 games – all for $9.99 per month.

With great games from top industry publishers such as 2K, 505 Games, BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment, Capcom, Codemasters, Deep Silver, Focus Home Interactive, SEGA, SNK CORPORATION, THQ Nordic GmbH, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Microsoft Studios, there’s something for everyone to enjoy and you will always find something exciting to play across a variety of genres. Some of the fan-favorite titles coming to Xbox Game Pass when it launches to the broader Xbox community later this spring include Halo 5: Guardians, Payday 2, NBA 2K16 and SoulCalibur II.

One of the best things about Xbox Game Pass is that you can discover and download the full titles directly on your Xbox One. That means continuous, full-fidelity gameplay without having to worry about streaming, bandwidth or connectivity issues. In addition, all Xbox One games in the catalog – and related add-ons – will be available to purchase at an exclusive discount for Xbox Game Pass members, so you can make the games you love part of your permanent library to play whenever you want. Every month new games will cycle into the subscription with some cycling out, giving you a constantly-updating library of games. Xbox Game Pass is your ticket to endless play.

It’s important to us that Xbox Game Pass provides an enjoyable and seamless experience. Before the program rolls out to the broader community later this spring, we’ll be testing Xbox Game Pass with select members of the Xbox Insider Program in the Alpha Preview ring starting today with a very limited number of titles. The titles that are available in Preview are just a small glimpse at the expansive catalog of games that will be available when Xbox Game Pass launches this spring. Xbox Live Gold members will also be receiving exclusive access to Xbox Game Pass prior to the program launching to the broader community. We’ll have more details on timing closer to launch.

We hope you enjoy Xbox Game Pass and all that it has to offer. We’re looking forward to hearing the feedback from the gamers in the Xbox Insider Program and then from the rest of the Xbox community when it’s broadly available later this spring. Your feedback will make this program better for all gamers.

Thank you for your continued passion and support of Xbox.

Still pissed about Icon. Take the same engine and give it better graphics and a new story. That's all they had to do. But nooooooo.

Preach....

and the thing that is even more shocking is that NO ONE is using Aki Game Engine for their fighting games.

The No Mercy fighting Engine is still hands down the best wrestling engine that I've ever seen. Hell I'd buy a Wrestling game that stars My Little Pony if you told me the Aki Wrestling Engine was powering that bitch.

Microsoft launches the Xbox Live Creators Program.
Last updated by Chris Pereira on March 1, 2017 at 11:55AM

Xbox One and the Windows 10 store may soon seen an influx of new games. At the Game Developers Conference today, Microsoft unveiled the Xbox Live Creators Program, which "empowers anyone to rapidly publish Xbox Live-enabled games on Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs."

Put simply, this allows anyone to create Universal Windows Platform games, easily integrate Xbox live features (including Live sign-in, presence, social, GameDVR and broadcasting, leaderboards, and stats, but not Achievements), and then publish them on Xbox One and the Windows 10 store. Creator Program games on Xbox One will be available through a dedicated new section of the console's store.

"This means their title can see exposure to every Xbox One owner across the Xbox One family of devices, including Project Scorpio this holiday, as well as hundreds of millions of Windows 10 PCs, and millions of folks using the Xbox app on mobile platforms," explained Chris Charla, director of Microsoft's independent developer program, ID@Xbox.

Charla said the process results in "minimal additional development time" and won't require developers to begin using new tools if they're already building UWP games. It also works with retail Xbox One systems, rather than requiring developers to obtain costly development kits.

If developers decide they "want access to more Xbox Live capabilities and to gain additional development and marketing support for their game," they'll have the option of enrolling in ID@Xbox. This can be done after the game has already launched.

The Creators Program is launching as a limited preview for now that's only available to some developers. The SDK (and more details) are available through Microsoft's website today, with submissions for publishing games opening to everyone "soon."

Other changes are also on the way for Xbox One and Windows 10 users with the Creators Update. Among other things, this introduces a new Guide and Home screen on Xbox One.

Ghost Recon Wildlands Betas Break Ubisoft Record

The recent beta phases for Ghost Recon Wildlands gave players a taste of what it’ll take to fight the Santa Blanca drug cartel in the Bolivian wilderness, and as it turned out, a lot of you were eager to squad up and hit the ground. More than 6.8 million of you, to be precise, breaking Ubisoft’s previous beta records – but that’s not the only impressive statistic coming out of the closed and open betas. More than two billion minutes were played, and more than 60 percent of all players played in co-op (Ghost Recon Wildland supports both solo and cooperative play for a team of up to four Ghosts).

Destiny Characters Will Reset In Destiny 2, Bungie Confirms

lhuju8tbvwg8ubftucm6.png

The upcoming Destiny 2 will be a total reset for your Destiny 1 characters, Bungie said today, confirming that you won’t be able to carry over weapons and gear from the first game. Your character’s appearance, however, will be retained.

“Sequels represent the start of a new adventure for every player, with new worlds to explore, new stories to tell, new powers to acquire, new loot to earn, and much more,” Bungie said on their blog today. “This led us to a decision that would enable us to serve both the game and the player’s best interests: Destiny 1 power, possessions, and Eververse-related items and currency will not carry forward. They will, however, remain accessible to you in Destiny 1.”

News of Destiny 2's character reset shouldn’t come as a surprise to hardcore Destiny fans. In September, we reported that Bungie is looking at Destiny 2 as a fresh start for their shooter-MMO series, and that this strategy will mean leaving your old characters behind. It is undeniably the best move for what has become a somewhat stale game over the past year thanks to skewed weapon balance and a lack of new content. Although Bungie originally marketed Destiny as a game with a “ten-year plan” in which your characters would remain with you for an entire decade, most fans would agree: It’s time for something new.

“We know that, just like us, you have grown fond of the Guardians you’ve created, so we do plan to preserve your character personalization,” Bungie said. “We are going to recognize the dedication and passion you’ve shown for this world. Specifically, the class, race, gender, face, hair, and marking selections for all characters that have achieved Level 20 and completed the Black Garden story mission will carry forward. We also plan to award those veteran accounts with honors that reflect your Destiny 1 accomplishments.”

Bungie says they’ll also be revealing more information on the big Destiny 1 spring update over the next few weeks.
