damn...the crazy thing is I wanted that game of thrones season pass but immediately lost interest in the game once I found out your choices are pretty much meaningless

system-update-8-14.gif

Later today Xbox One owners will be getting a system update. This update prepares for game streaming to Windows 10 (launching July 29th) and our upcoming Backward Compatibility feature launching in a few months. There are no new user-facing features in this release as the team focuses on the New Xbox One Experience that will be available later this year.

I need some advice on NBA 2k16.

Amazon, Gamestop and the 2k website have the same promo running which:

-10,000 Virtual Currency (VC)
-MyTEAM VIP Package
-Next-Gen - 3 MyTEAM Emerald Packs each with a guaranteed Emerald player
-Previous-Gen - MyTEAM Gold Booster Pack with Guaranteed Gold Player and 4 additional Gold items

Is it better to preorder 2k16 now or wait to see if it will get any better than this?

I would wait until the 15 (Amazon Prime Day)

Amazon says 20th birthday celebration will be bigger than Black Friday

amazon-video-event-2014-1.0.jpg

To celebrate its 20th birthday, Amazon is introducing Prime Day, a "global shopping event" that the retail giant says will offer more deals than Black Friday. The deals will become available at midnight ET on July 15th, but will only be available to Amazon Prime customers in the US, the UK, Spain, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Canada, and Austria. Amazon says new deals will be introduced as fast as every 10 minutes, and will come from every product category, from clothing to electronics.

The new promotion appears to be part of Amazon's ongoing attempt to drive regular shoppers toward Prime membership, having last month expanded its same-day rapid-delivery service Prime Now outside the US. According to Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, Prime customers spend more than double the average amount than standard Amazon customers in a year — $1,500, compared to non-members' $625. But to get access to Prime Day, you won't necessarily have to pay up for a Prime subscription — you can sign up for a free 30-day Prime membership prior to July 15th and still get access to the offers.

I was just debating on if I should sign up for the Prime 30 day trial.

I might as well give it a shot.

I was just debating on if I should sign up for the Prime 30 day trial.

I might as well give it a shot.

absolutely...it's free you have NOTHING to worry about during that trial period...I just quit being a prime member...tryna save a bit of $$$ but I might do the trial period w/ another email address just to peep those deals...the $99 isn't bad...it will easily pay for itself if you order a lot of products and take advantage of free 2-day shipping or cheaper 1-day shipping...the shit tho (and this is my fault not amazon's ) was I was ordering too much shit...I musta placed about 40 orders this year already before my membership expired last month...but I did read that amazon prime members spend about twice as much as non-prime members...that's no coincidence lol...a reminder...once you sign up you can find the option not to automatically charge your card after 30 days...it will not affect your trial period...and check periodically to make sure...bcuz when I decided to quit I clicked that option then I checked the day before my membership expired and somehow the option changed to automatically renew :hmm: so I had to change it again...but I'd def do the trial period tho

Microsoft announced Xbox One was getting Xbox 360 backwards compatibility at E3 this year, a feature everyone but Nintendo moved away from this hardware generation. We haven’t heard much since, so we decided to ask a bunch of game publishers about some of their biggest games.

On Microsoft’s Xbox Feedback page, it’s possible for fans to vote for which games they’d like to see made backwards compatible. It’s not a guarantee, but it does provide hope for those who’d like a chance to play Red Dead Redemption again. (In another dimension, there’s a PC version!)

The biggest ones?

1332017983446206054.png

I scrolled through the list and took note of every game that has more than 5,000 votes. That doesn’t cover every game people are hoping makes the cut—sorry, BlowOut at 71 votes—but it represents most of the major games people would like to play on their new Xbox hardware.

Of course, publishers aren’t being asked to port their games to Xbox One. Microsoft is doing the heavy lifting here, having some up with a way to get the old games to run on new hardware. So while some games may get priority over others (see: Fallout 3 getting announced at E3 during Fallout 4’s presentation), we thought it was worth checking in to see if discussions had started.

Square Enix

1332017983495001190.jpg

Some of the best games from last generation came out of the merged Square Enix and Eidos Interactive. Sadly, the company didn’t have much to say, and pointed me towards Microsoft.

With Sleeping Dogs and Tomb Raider, the company has released updates for new platforms.

 • Just Cause 2
 • Tomb Raider
 • Hitman: Absolution
 • Deus Ex: Human Revolution
 • Final Fantasy XIII
 • Sleeping Dogs
Capcom

1332017983584515686.jpg

Technically, games like Resident Evil 4 as ports from an even earlier generation, which I feel might be creating a ripple in the time-space continuum.
“Nothing has been confirmed at this time,” said a company spokesperson.

 • Resident Evil 4
 • Resident Evil 5
 • Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition
 • Dead Rising
 • Dead Rising 2
 • Resident Evil 6
 • Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen
 • Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
Ubisoft

1332017983718851686.jpg

The company with nearly the most games above the vote threshold—EA beat them by a game—but they didn’t comment. People sure like Assassin’s Creed, though, and want to play more.

 • Assassin’s Creed 2
 • Assassin’s Creed 3
 • Assassin’s Creed Rogue
 • Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood
 • Assassin’s Creed
 • Assassin’s Creed: Revelations
 • Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag
 • Assassins Creed Liberation HD
 • South Park
 • Far Cry 3
 • Splinter Cell Blacklist
 • Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon
 • Splinter Cell Conviction
 • Rainbow Six Vegas 2
 • Ghost Recon: Future Soldier
Deep Silver

1332017983750168678.jpg

This question should have been targeted at THQ, former owner of Saints Row, but Deep Silver took it over in the last few years, after THQ financially imploded. It’s looking good, though!
“We’re currently exploring the options for backwards compatibility,” said a spokesperson.

 • Saints Row: The Third
 • Saints Row 2
Konami

1332017983794452582.jpg

I’m not sure who exactly is voting for a chance to play Silent Hill: HD Collection again, but I don’t blame people for wanting Metal Gear to make the jump, with the next game coming soon.

“Glad to hear about all the titles that folks are voting for,” said a spokesperson, “but unfortunately we don’t have any info to share around this.”

 • Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3: HD Edition
 • Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
 • Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker HD Edition
 • Silent Hill: HD Collection
 • Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Namco Bandai

1332017983831137126.jpg

Here’s one publisher who might not actually want you to play some of its previous games on new hardware, since they recently updated Dark Souls 2 to the Scholar of the First Sin Edition on both PS4 and Xbox One. My guess is plenty are still looking to play the the original game.

Whether or not that happens is an open question, as Namco Bandai did not respond to me.

 • Dark Souls
 • Tales of Vesperia
 • Dark Souls 2
Nordic Games

1332017983884379238.jpg

Like Deep Silver, this is another game franchise switching hands, thanks to THQ’s disappearance. Nordic Games took over Darksiders, and it’s currently retooling the second game for a re-release on current platforms. That said, it’s interested in backwards compatibility.

“Nordic Games can’t confirm anything just yet,” said a spokesperson. “They would like to make as much of their back-catalog compatible, including Darksiders II, but the program is still new and they need more information to properly assess the process before announcing anything.”

 • Darksiders 2
Sega

1332017983985533030.jpg

There hasn’t been much love for Sega console games in a while, but we have them to thank for bringing Bayonetta to life, even if Nintendo ended up saving the franchise’s sequel hopes.

“We have no concrete plans at this time,” said a company representative, “but it’s awesome to see the fan support for Bayonetta. We’ll investigate how we can support this internally.”

 • Bayonetta
Koei Tecmo

1332017984119273062.jpg

We haven’t heard about the future of Ninja Gaiden the disastrous Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z, but before Tomonobu Itagaki left the studio, he delivered the wonderfully difficult Ninja Gaiden 2.

Unfortunately, the company didn’t get back to me when I asked about the game getting support.

 • Ninja Gaiden 2
CD Projekt RED

1332017984155240550.png

The Xbox 360 version of The Witcher 2 is where I jumped into the franchise, and it was an excellent port of that game. Though the studio didn’t get back to me about backwards compatibility, if you take a close look at Microsoft’s E3 press conference, you can spot the game:

1332017984233018214.png

It’s towards the start of the chain, right in front of Assassin’s Creed. That’s not quite confirmation, but it’s better than nothing, and shows it’s certainly on Microsoft’s radar.

 • The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
Electronic Arts

1332017984387601510.jpg

The company with the most games on the list, according to my threshold, there are tons of EA games people would like to be playing. Mass Effect was even shown at Microsoft’s E3 event.

While EA didn’t get back to me—my email was forwarded along to someone, then promptly vanished into the digital void—there’s signs they are looking into backwards compatibility.

Yes, we ARE talking to Microsoft about making XBox 360 Burnout Paradise available on XBox One via backwards-compatibility! More news soon!
— CriterionGames (@CriterionGames) July 6, 2015

The full list of games, however, is much larger.

 • Mass Effect
 • Mass Effect 2
 • Mass Effect 3
 • Battlefield 3
 • Battlefield: Bad Company 2
 • Skate 3
 • Mirror’s Edge
 • Dragon Age: Origins
 • Dragon Age 2
 • Dead Space
 • Dead Space 3
 • Dead Space 2
 • Burnout Paradise
 • Need For Speed Most Wanted
 • Crysis 3
 • Dante’s Inferno
Disney/LucasArts

1332017984470198374.jpg

LucasArts doesn’t exist anymore, so by default, Disney now owns the rights to Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and its sequel. I tried scraping up some information, but didn’t have any luck.

 • Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
 • Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II
Warner Bros.

1332044596373755496.jpg

It’s possible Warner Bros. just doesn’t want to talk to me right now, but it also seems like most companies are only beginning to explore how backwards compatibility will impact their catalog. But like EA, there are vocal developers already telling fans that it’s being looked into.

With Xbox1 (360) backwards compatibility... I wonder if it's safe for us to announce MK9 & Injustice for "Xbox1" ;)
— Ed Boon (@noobde) June 15, 2015

We’ll have to see how that shakes out.

 • Batman Arkham City
 • Arkham Asylum
 • Arkham Origins
 • Injustice: Gods Among Us
 • Mortal Kombat
 • LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga
Valve

1332044596474032232.jpg

It’s true, Valve used to release video games. It feels like a long time ago, but according to a Wikipedia entry, it was once a semi-regular event for the company that founded Steam.

The studio did not respond to my question about backwards compatibility.

 • Left 4 Dead 2
 • Portal 2
 • The Orange Box
 • Left 4 Dead
 • Portal: Still Alive
Bethesda Softworks

1332044596577964136.jpg

If there’s proof of preferential treatment in the games being prioritized for backwards compatibility, it’s probably evident in Bethesda being able to promise Fallout 3 would come free for anyone who bought Fallout 4 on Xbox One later this year.

As for the rest of the company’s lineup? We’ll have to wait and see. They didn’t get back to me.

 • Skyrim
 • Fallout: New Vegas
 • Dishonored
 • Oblivion
 • DOOM
Take-Two Interactive/Rockstar Games

1332044596679514472.jpg

There are a ton of games at the top of the list for both companies (if you’re not aware, Take-Two Interactive owns Rockstar Games). We already know Borderlands is coming, since Microsoft has demonstrated the game in action already, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if the others do, too.

They’re not yet commenting on what might else might be coming.

 • Bioshock Infinite
 • BioShock
 • Borderlands
 • BioShock 2
 • Borderlands 2
 • Mafia II
 • Civilization Revolution
 • Red Dead Redemption
 • GTA 4
 • GTA: San Andreas
 • GTA 5
 • LA Noire
 • Max Payne 3
Activision

1332044596955740776.jpg

One has to imagine the company is considering some HD remasters of its previous blockbuster Call of Duty games, but we haven’t heard any rumblings about that just yet. It’s hardly shocking some of the biggest games from last generation are games people want to keep playing now.

However, as was the case with many other companies, they didn’t respond to my requests.

 • Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
 • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
 • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
 • Call of Duty: World at War
 • Call of Duty: Call of Duty 2
 • Call of Duty: Call of Duty 3
 • Call of Duty: Ghosts
1332044597018873192.png

And while that does it for now, but I’ll be keeping an eye on backwards compatibility in the weeks and months ahead. Right now, it’s not available for all Xbox One owners—that’s later this year—and I suspect we’ll be hearing a lot more game announcements as that gets closer.

Black-Ops-3_No-Fly-Zone.0.0.jpg

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 publisher Activision is producing a special edition for the game that is designed to help thirsty gamers stay frosty, according to a leaked product listing on New Zealand retailer Mighty Ape's website.

Mighty Ape's listing is for a "Juggernog Edition" of Black Ops 3. The highlight of the package is a mini-fridge branded with Juggernog, a fictional drink that has appeared in the Call of Duty series' Zombies modes as a Perk-A-Cola. The mini-fridge features lights and sounds from Black Ops 3, and can hold up to a dozen 12-ounce beverage cans.

The Juggernog Edition comes with other physical goodies, too, including a set of four Perk-A-Cola coasters; nine cards for the Specialist characters in Black Ops 3's competitive multiplayer mode; and a Steelbook case for the game itself. On the digital content side, the Juggernog Edition includes Black Ops 3's season pass, which covers four post-launch add-ons; The Giant, a bonus map based on Treyarch's classic "Der Riese" Zombies map; a digital copy of the Black Ops 3 soundtrack; and three in-game Personalization Packs.

Mighty Ape lists the Juggernog Edition for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One; the package is priced at NZ$289.99, which is about $195. Treyarch is set to reveal Black Ops 3's Zombies mode during a panel at Comic-Con 2015 later today, so the Juggernog Edition's existence may be officially confirmed soon. We've reached out to Activision for comment, and will update this article with any information we receive.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 launches Nov. 6 on PS4, Windows PC and Xbox One. It is also in development for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. You can see an image of the Juggernog Edition from Mighty Ape below.

As promised, Treyarch gave Call of Duty Zombies fans at Comic-Con 2015 a first look at what developers have planned for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3‘s upcoming Zombie experience.

Called “Shadows of Evil,” the first Zombies map launching with Black Ops 3 is set in Chicago during the 1940s and will feature era-appropriate weapons. A brand new cast of characters, each with their own dark secret, is voiced by actors Jeff Goldbum, Heather Graham, Neil McDonoguh, Ron Perlman and Robert Picardo. Treyarch says its story will be related to Call of Duty: Black Ops 2’s Mob of the Dead and will continue in future Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 DLC.

Meanwhile, a remake of Call of Duty: World at War’s Der Riese map called “The Giant,” included in the Juggernog, Hardened, and Digital Deluxe editions of the game, will feature a returning cast, including Steven Blum, Tom Kane, Nolan North, and Fred Tatascoiore.

You can catch the new Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Shadows of Evil trailer above, as well as a few in-game images and screens from the panel below, provided by the official Call of Duty Twitter account.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 launches November 6 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC. The multiplayer beta begins first on PlayStation 4 this August 19, coming later to Xbox One and PC.

It’s a great day at San Diego Comic-Con, especially if you’re a Gears of War fan. During one of the panels, John DiMaggio, the voice actor for Marcus Fenix, Xbox and The Coalition shared insights on the development of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. The team debuted a behind-the-scenes look video at how they recreated some of the most iconic cinematics in the game.

The panelists also revealed the Xbox One Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Bundle, available for pre-order (US) (or Canada) today and launching 25 August (while supplies last). The bundle will be available for $349 (ERP) at select retailers – including Microsoft stores and microsoftstore.com – and includes an Xbox One 500GB Console, an Xbox One Wireless Controller featuring a 3.5mm stereo headset jack, a full digital game download of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, early access to the 2016 Gears of War 4 Multiplayer Beta, Superstar Cole multiplayer skin, and a 14-day Xbox Live trial.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition remasters the classic Xbox 360 game that kicked off the Gears series. Relive the first pulse-pounding adventure starring Marcus Fenix and Delta Squad, his battle-hardened brothers in arms in breathtaking 1080p, including 60FPS competitive multiplayer with 19 maps and six game modes, as well as five campaign chapters never released on console. Everything that made Gears such an instant classic is back, along with plenty of gameplay improvements from the series’ more recent installments, in a beautiful HD package.

For more details about Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and other news shared at SDCC, stay tuned to Xbox Wire and @GearsofWar.

I'm glad i didn't buy Batman day one.

The price is going to drop again.

I'll wait another week or more.

Along with yesterday’s announcement of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3’s all-new Zombies mode, titled “Shadows of Evil,” Treyarch developers also teased the return of fan-favorite characters, Dempsey, Nikolai, Richtofen, and Takeo, in a throwback Zombies map the studio is calling “The Giant.”

Buyers of any of the three Collector’s Editions of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, which were also revealed yesterday, will get it on day one, and, so far, that appears to be the only way get access. It features returning cast members from the original World at War Zombies mode, including actors Steven Blum, Tom Kane, Nolan North, and Fred Tatascoiore, and will continue the story from where Call of Duty: Black Ops 2’s Origins left off. As a re-imagining of the original “Der Riese” from Call of Duty: World at War, old-school Zombies fans should feel right at home with “The Giant.”

Nintendo has just issued a short statement announcing that president Satoru Iwata has passed away at the age of 55.
The statement reads:
Nintendo Co., Ltd. deeply regrets to announce that President Satoru Iwata passed away on July 11, 2015 due to a bile duct growth.
Iwata was forced to skip last year’s E3 due to his poor health, and shortly afterwards underwent surgery to remove the bile duct growth. A few months later, in the wake of concerns over his health, he said via Twitter “I’m progressing well”.

Iwata first joined Nintendo’s HAL Laboratory in the 1980s, where he worked on games like Balloon Fight and EarthBound. He became a Director of the company in 2000, and in 2002 was appointed as only the fourth President of Nintendo when he succeeded Hiroshi Yamauchi.

In his time as President, Iwata oversaw some of the strongest (Wii, DS) and weakest (GameCube, Wii U) periods in Nintendo’s history as a video game company. In recent times, he developed almost cult status as the host of the Nintendo Direct programs.
An immensely popular figure both within the industry and with Nintendo fans, he will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace, Mr. Iwata.
